ARCHITECT'S REGENCY COTTAGE, ISLINGTON, LONDON

Islington House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Although less than a ten minute walk from several small theatres, cinemas, noted restaurants, buses and underground stations, there is the illusion of being in the country. The large south facing garden surrounded by trees is free of traffic and set up for outdoor living.

The dining room, under an award winning soaring glass conservatory, opens onto the garden and to a fully equipped kitchen.

From the central hall is a double living room and a playroom. Original mouldings, shutters and fireplace remain. Above are two double and two single bedroom. Two bathrooms; one is ensuite with a Juliet balcony over the garden. Two additional WC's.

The area is called Barnsbury in Islington, close to the British Museum, University College, British Library, Almeida Theatre, Chapel Street Market and several bookstores and restaurants in lively Upper Street. The West End, City and Museums are all within ten to fifteen minutes by bus or cab. Our one- way street is quiet, leafy and safe.

For small children, there is a rocking horse, sand pit, wendy house and tricycles. Older children can go to a nearby park with tennis courts, swimming pool and plenty of space for ball games. For adults, there is broadband access and a place to read the papers over coffee in the sun.

The house is usually available during the British School holidays: October, Christmas, and Easter as well as single weeks other times. In the summer, we offer a 6 weeks rental period during August and September At any of these times we would be happy to welcome a single person or a couple. Although there are more beds, the house is not large and adapts very well to one or two people.

We would hope that the house and garden would receive the care and consideration given to a home rather than a rental unit.

We are an academic couple who have lived in this house as our family home for many years.

Now semi-retired, we are away a lot so offer in our absence, our modest but quite ideal home and garden to discerning couples or families. We hope you will enjoy the experience of living here as a resident, who know his way around local street markets, theatres, pubs, shops and restaurants.

Tourist London is easily accessible, but quite different.

Beautiful week

My family just finished a week's stay at this beautiful house and we cannot rave enough. We had a total of 4 adults and 2 children staying here and the house could not have been set up better for us. The location is absolutely ideal, on a beautiful quiet street yet only a few minutes walk away from a great pub, lovely parks for children and the excitement of the key shopping streets in Islington. The house itself is an absolute gem...full of beautiful artwork, books and family treasures. The rooms were very comfortable, the kitchen had every single item one could want and the garden was right out of a picture book. We just loved our stay so much. The owners were lovely to deal with and Jan the housekeeper who we met in person was just wonderful and helpful as well. We will look forward to returning to this beautiful house again and I can't recommend it enough for anyone wanting an amazing trip to London who wants to feel as if you are really living in the middle of one of the city's best communities. Thank you so much again!

A true haven - impossible to believe we were in Central London

We had a wonderful stay in February this year. What should have been an incredibly stressful week of college visits, work and family get-togethers turned out to be the most enjoyable experience, thanks to the comfort and ambience of this marvellous house and the unending kindness of its owners. Our party spanned three generations from 12 to 80 years of age and everyone looked forward to returning home in the evening, my mother to sit and read quietly by the fire, the rest of us (not so quietly) to congregate and exchange stories in the huge kitchen/dining room. Even with six in the house, everyone had their own space and favourite sitting area. The immediate surrounding area is a hidden gem. My husband and I lived in London for many years but have never experienced such a village-like atmosphere - complete with local "pub" around the corner. Yet just streets away is High Street Islington with all its restaurants, shops and transport options. Staying in London will never be the same again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a sparkling yet sincere review. In fact, you were wonderful guests. You seemed to know how to enjoy the house to the hilt and you left it in the state a close friend would. Any time you are in London, please come back!

Best wishes,
Clare and Eric.

Thank you again for the use of your wonderful house. We are going to miss it! It is so charming and welcoming - exactly like its owners. Houses speak of the people who live in them, and this one speaks very, very warmly of you. We have tried to live up to its hospitable spirit, and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves doing so.

We chose to spend Christmas in London because two of our daughters are attending universities in Europe, one in Paris and the other in London. Thus, London seemed like a good place for the family to get together. We were fortunate enough to find the house in Islington and the owners were kind enough to invite my daughter who is in London over for tea. My daughter enjoyed the visit and reported that the house was perfect for our vacation. The house is located near King’s Cross St. Pancras station so that it was easy to get to from Heathrow or by Eurostar from Paris. From the moment we first saw the house we knew we had made the right decision. It is in a very quiet and charming neighbourhood in Islington. The house appeared warm and inviting. Inside it was clean and well decorated with a cosy living room with a working fireplace, modern kitchen, two full bathrooms and two half bathrooms, a family room and a very pleasant sun room that looks out onto a surprisingly large garden. We found it was very nice to come “home” and sit by the fire after a long day of touring London rather than going back to a hotel room. Islington has a large number of great pubs and restaurants, theaters and antique stores. It also has a fun open air market where you can get the world’s best hamburger. My favorite is the spicy bacon cheeseburger; it is a cardiologist’s nightmare, but well worth the experience. We spent most of Christmas Eve shopping for Christmas dinner in the market, supplemented with a visit to the two local grocery stores. Everything was a short walk away from the house. The house’s modern kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to prepare a meal. Our Christmas dinner was excellent, except for the Christmas pudding we bought from Harrods. I guess that is either an acquired taste or a joke Londoner’s play on tourists. We purchased 7 day unlimited travel Oyster cards and took the double decker buses or the tube all over London. Since the house was located near a tube/bus station commuting to anywhere in London was very easy. The buses were fun because you can ride on the top deck and see all of the sights. We often took a bus just for the views. Overall, we had the best holiday of our lives and found the owners to be very helpful and friendly in helping us setup our London holiday. They even purchased and decorated a Christmas tree for us! We highly recommend staying at this wonderful house in Islington.
