Had a wonderful week there last summer, in fact rode out Tropical Storm Iselle there, and I can attest that it is a very sturdy house! Beautiful property, well-equipped, on the south side of the development so not not too far from the ocean. Loved the outdoor shower, and the claw foot tub, as well as the patio. The property managers were great and very responsive through the storm. Would love to stay there again. Puna is out of the way and very slow, but if that is what you are looking for, there is no better place in Hawaii to relax.
We are right down the street from this area's most popular eco-tourism resort, abundant with yoga classes, free form dance, massage and Hawaiian traditions education. Kalani Honua also offers day passes for pool and sauna use and serves fulfilling meals three times a day.
The local black sand beach is clothing optional and is the perfect location for the long distance swimmer, featuring the occasional pod of dolphins, whale watching and deep, clear waters.
8 miles down the road are the relaxing, thermally heated warm pond pools, with a perfect mix of ocean view and palm tree shaded park-like setting. For a slice of local life, there is surfing and boogie boarding at Pohoiki Harbor on the way.
Don't miss the local culture and organic produce on Saturday mornings at SPACE farmer's market in walking distance just up the road from us.
You can find some of the region's finest, safest snorkeling at Vacation Land, an endless series of tidepools, where you can snorkel from pool-sized tidepool to the next.
Lastly, hike the newest earth on the planet, where your mind goes blank as you potentially watch the lava flow directly into the sea.
