About Nina Kressler

I now live in Ottawa with my family; however, my fondest memories are of growing up in Hubbards. Summers were spent on the beach and evenings around the out door fireplace enjoying hot chocolate and roasting marsh mellows and hot dogs on a stick.

Why Nina Kressler chose Hubbards

This property was built by my parents in 1965 when they fell in love with Hubbards as new immigrants to Canada from Germany. Since that time, many trees and gardens have been planted. The home was suitably called Tall Pines when 80-90 foot majestic trees graced the front lawn. The trees where cut down in 1995 as they were aging and several parts of the trees have been used in the house as siding so they continue to live on. Since then, new trees have been planted and provide plenty of privacy and shelter. The home is family friendly and is minutes away from the ocean, yacht club which offers weekly sailing lessons, Saturday Farmer's Market, Saturday night dances at the Shore Club, grocery and liquor store, doctor, dentist and pharmacy, hiking and bicycle trails. Peggy's Cove and the picturesque town of Chester are 30 minutes away. Golf is a mere 20 minutes and welcomes visitors. Halifax and all its fabulous dining, entertainment, Casino and museums is 40 minutes away.

What makes this house unique

The home features 3 bedrooms with double beds, two large living areas on separate floors. The upper level has a wood burning fireplace. The dining room has a large table which seats six. The kitchen is an entertaining kitchen with a breakfast nook as well as bar stools and all the modern amenities including dishwasher, oven, stove, microwave, toaster, and coffee machine. The home features a screened in porch for evening dinners and drinks. The house has four decks surrounding the home so you can follow the sun all day long. In the evening, there is a stone patio with a fireplace. The lower living room has a television, Wii, board games and a single pull-out sleeper. Washer and dryer is located on the lower level. The home has two washrooms. The upper level has a bathtub and shower and the lower level washroom has a shower. The home comes with a private family pass to Hubbards Beach....well known for its fine white sand and is one of Nova Scotia's most sheltered beaches. Children spend the day exploring the hidden treasures in the seaweed along the coast where star fish and fascinating shells can be found.

Highly recommended!

It's been over 3 months since our golf foursome stayed at Tall Pines for a week in mid September but the memory of our time in Hubbards is still fresh. From our very first contact with the owner to our departure at the end of our stay, this was a most pleasant and completely satisfying experience. We have visited Nova Scotia on many occassions but we usually stay closer to the Fundy shore in and around the Annapolis Valley. This year we decided to stay on the Atlantic side and play the some of the fabulous golf courses southwest of Halifax. We were not disappointed. And the location of Tall Pines in the village of Hubbards was perfectly located close to the centre of everywhere we wanted to be. The house is spacious and welcoming. The amenities left nothing to be desired. We looked forward each day to returning to Hubbards, to relaxing on the front deck or just finding our own space to catch up on world news, anwser mail and do a little business. We had a wonderful dinner at the world famous Shore Club, spent hours touring Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and even ventured in to Halifax for some fun. Since Hubbards is basically adjacent to Hwy 101, everywhere we wanted to go was less than an hour away. Tall Pines delivered on our expectations and was an exceptional value. When we return to Nova Scotia's Atlantic coast, Tall Pines will be the only name on our rental list. Thanks very much to Nina and family.

Very comfortable stay in Hubbards

  • 5 of 5
My parents, my older brother and myself all enjoyed a week in this lovely cottage at the beginning of October. I slept on the single sofa bed on the lower floor and for someone who suffers from a bad back at times, I actually was very comfortable. There is a foam topper on the mattress and I could not feel any metal bars, which I find is so often the case on sofa beds. My parents and my brother all found their beds comfortable too. I would agree with a previous reviewer that one queen size bed would be best; maybe the next time that updates/renovations are due on the house the owner might consider putting a queen in the bedroom with the bookshelves.

This is a very nice house to just cook, eat and socialise in. We were having a mini family reunion and found the kitchen a lovely place to chat in while cooking. My brother and I also enjoyed building a fire in the living room fireplace each night which really warmed the place up nicely. A TV in the upstairs living room would be nice too. I like the downstairs living room with TV however we found that my parents, being over 70, enjoyed staying on the upper floor and not having to go up and down the stairs. So we just watched Netflix on our laptops in the kitchen and upper living room. (Do note: we only got a wifi signal in these two rooms and the screened in porch, however this was perfectly fine for us).

Having two full bathrooms was also a great luxury. They were both well stocked with towels and toilet paper.

There is just so much space in this house and the gardens too. There is plenty of parking space, circular driveway that could fit 3-4 cars. It was cool weather when we were there so we didn't enjoy the outside space like I wanted to. If we came back again I would look forward to spending evenings around the fire pit outside. There is a wood storage shed next to the house with loads of wood.

The kitchen contained lots of pots and pans, cutlery, plates, bowls, glasses including wine glasses, pint glasses and shot glasses, olive oil and balsamic, candles, matches etc etc. We used the little BBQ several times and really enjoyed that!

We really really enjoyed our trip to this cottage. I particularly love the fireplace and the screened in porch which was great for my morning coffee while enjoying the colours in the trees and the birds chirping.

Nina, thank you so much for starting to offer this cottage on VRBO this year and I wish you loads of success in continuing to do so.

Great location, lots of extras

  • 4 of 5
Beautiful rental. We enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor patios, walking trail right out back door and very short drive to amazing Queensland beach. House was very large for everyone to have their own space, including two beautiful bathrooms. Would have given 5 stars for one queen bed instead of all doubles. Close to Halifax for a day trip or Lunenberg the other way. Two great restaurants close by. Owner was very pleasant.

best holiday

  • 5 of 5
What an excellent place to stay in Hubberts. This cottage is close to so many other special places in Nova Scotia.
The cottage was Immaculate. Lots of room and very comfortable . The children truly enjoyed the outside space, the freedom of playing without any worries. The fact that there is a school yard with playground equipment, next to the cottage, kept them entertainmed for many hours, while the adults enjoyed the sunset or sun bathing in the different decks that the cottage offers. In the evening the bonfire and the company of the friendly neighbours was a memorable experience. Queenslanding beach, 5 minutes away, is very beatiful and the children loved jumping waves. We have rentend many cottages in the past but"Tall Pines" ranks at the top of our list. The grandchildren (13and 8)can' t wait for next year's holidays.I strongly recommend renting this place if you are wanting the comfort of home and the easea of exploring other N.S. treasures. Also you need to experience a Lobster Supper at the Shore Club (walking distance)

Spectacular home, minutes from the beach.

My husband and I have enjoyed our most memorable Summers at "Tall Pines" in Hubbards, N.S.
The house is immaculate, beautifully furnished and decorated, with all the comforts of home. The yard is spacious and a great area for Family fun and entertaining.
We sailed from Hubbards Yacht Club to picturesque Peggy's Cove, then on to Chester Yacht Club for lunch, great memories.
The wonderful beaches at Queensland and Hubbards are breathtakingly beautiful, with white sand and very clean beaches.
Farmer's market on Saturday is a must.
Tall Pines is within walking distance to the Shore Club for a Saturday evening of live entertainment.
Since Halifax is only a thirty minute ride, we decided to do a bit of shopping and check out the Casino.
We ended our stay with a feed of "giant" lobsters from Shatford's Lobster Pound.
What a wonderful place for a vacation, all in all cannot say enough great things about "Tall Pines", would go again in a heartbeat
