Friday Harbor Cabin Rental Photos and Description
Orca watching haven
Whale Watch Cabin is located 1/4 mile south of Lime Kiln Point Lighthouse & State Park on the west side of San Juan Island. The steep shoreline offers excellent conditions for orca whales to come in close to shore while they forage for salmon in Haro Strait. This shore front property offers some of the world's best land based orca watching both in terms of frequency of visits and their proximity to shore. See video of the orcas passing along our property at http://vimeo.com/user17657345/whalewatchcabin
Enjoy incredible sunsets, views of Vancouver Island, Olympic Mountains, whales, seals, sea birds, eagles, fox, and deer. There are lots of outdoor activity options nearby, including hiking trails on surrounding public lands, two national historic parks, and an orca interpretive center and gift shop at Lime Kiln State Park. Close by Deadman's Bay and San Juan County Park offer kayakers places to launch.
Unwind in this private haven of natural beauty while distant international shipping traffic glides by and city lights twinkle from Victoria, B.C. and the Olympic Peninsula. The cabin offers relaxed living with modest accommodations. A gas burning stove and oven allow cooking even if there is a power outage. The water system can provide over a week's worth of water even if there is a power outage. Contact us for specific details regarding amenities. Guestbook comments from the owner
I figured that maybe we would see a whale if we were watching all of the time, but we saw whales multiple times every day. We went out and about during the day and almost any time that we spent at the cabin we would see whales. If whale watching is what you want to do you will not be disappointed. We also saw dolphins, seals and eagles right from the deck. If I am not mistaken there is also a pair of bluebirds that were recently re-introduced to the area nesting nearby. Books on the local plants and wildlife are in the house, along with guides on how to identify particular whales. I was excited to see binoculars in the window sill, but honestly we seldom needed them to get a good view of the whales.
We have rented other vacation homes, but this was unlike any of the other homes we had rented. Other homes we had stayed at were all pretty similar - kind of like going to a hotel. This was more like going to a relatives house to stay while the relatives were gone. The fridge and cupboards where stocked with a little sign that said "Take what you need" in the cupboard. We had gone grocery shopping before we arrived but it was nice to have some spices and condiments available, as well as a cold beer and soda when we arrived. If you are looking for the most modern conveniences you will not find them all here, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we would have planned for a week instead of a weekend.

Our cabin is family owned and operated. Our parents built this small home / cabin and we are happy to share the experience of living here with our guests.
Some of the best orca whale watching in the San Juan Islands. Not unusual for them to come in close to our shoreline.
Sunsets, wildlife, nearby lighthouse and whale watch park, lots of trails. Guests appreciate the whales and wildlife, sitting on the deck and garden all with great views of the water, Vancouver Island and Olympic Mountains.
