CLASSIC MINNESOTA CABIN ON BEAUTIFUL LAKE O'BRIEN (INCLUDES NEW PONTOON BOAT)

Crosslake Cabin Rental Photos and Description

If you are looking for the 'cabin experience', this quintessential cabin in the pines won't disappoint. The property was originally purchased and built by my grandparents in 1958 and has been in our family ever since; it was completely renovated by my wife and I in 2011. A small but efficient layout, the cabin has a wonderful screen porch, sitting area with gas fireplace, and dining room; all with panoramic views of the lake, which is only steps away. It has one bedroom on the main level (king), and a semi-private loft with two queen size beds. There is one 3/4 bath, and a great outdoor shower with views of the lake for those true Minnesotan's. The inside space flows seamlessly to a large lakeside patio with grill, outdoor dining area, fire pit and coffee sitting area. The rental comes complete with a pontoon boat (2014 Bennington), two paddle boards, a canoe, and of course a hammock in the yard. For those that can't disconnect, the cabin also includes two high definition TV's with DirecTV (DVD/Blu-Ray on main TV) and free Wi-Fi! And don't worry, you won't be roughing it, the 2011 renovation also brought all new mechanical systems including air conditioning, new appliances, and a new Kinetico softened water system!!

Situated 5 miles east of the town of Crosslake, crystal clear Lake O'Brien is spring fed with a water clarity of 24', the cleanest lake in the entire watershed district. The lake itself is surrounded by mature pines. There is approximately 5 miles of shoreline, of which about a quarter of the lake is undeveloped state owned property. During the summer, this recreational lake is perfect for fishing, skiing, wake boarding canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and all water based activities, including floating on an air mattress!! There is a sandbar where you can walk across the lake which is a favorite gathering spot for 'kids of all ages'!! It's location on a quiet tar township road make it perfect for a morning walk or bike ride. During the winter months the lake is perfect for ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and is a perfect base camp to access the endless miles of groomed snowmobile trails.

Our property is perfect for a family of up to 6 or a few couples. We have a strict limit of 6 due to the size of the cabin and the single bathroom. We do keep our calendar updated and so if you are seeing availability then it's likely available. Upon reservation confirmation you'll receive a complete 'what to bring' list so you are prepared for your time up north. Feel free to inquire with any questions you may have and we’ll be prompt to reply! We pride ourselves on keeping our property and structures/equipment pristine and are certain we'll exceed your expectations in that regard. And further, since we also live on this lake, should any questions or problems arise we can respond quickly. In fact, your only disappointment will be when you have to leave!!

The perfect north woods get away

  • 5 of 5
Although a smaller cabin, the space is beautifully done, high end appliances, and lots provided for guests in terms of small kitchen appliances, condiments, WIFI/direct TV for those rainy days. The owners even had a basket with a bottle of wine, crackers & cheese, waiting for us in the refrigerator. There is even a flat screen TV mounted on the wall in the master bedroom with king size, super comfy, bed. The loft upstairs was very roomy with two nice queen size beds, night stands, dresser. Had bonfires all day & night (all wood provided), and enjoyed cooking & eating outdoors (nice big dining table on patio). Awesome sitting areas looking out at the lake. Great dock for sunning & fishing. Caught some nice Bass & Sunnies right off the dock. I think I had a Northern on my line, but lost him. The Pontoon boat is beautiful and the lake is clear. At one point I watched 5 Eagles soaring overhead and Loons swimming right in front of the dock. The owners were kind enough to allow me to enjoy my vacation with my very WELL BEHAVED canine son! :) Such a happy dog, as he got more use out of the lake than me! Very comfortable and relaxing!! I hope to be back soon!!

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5
This cabin did not disappoint. It was as described. All that you see in the photo's and description and even more. You will not regret booking this cabin and I suspect that would hold true anytime of year. It has all the charm of a time when life was simpler and all the amenities you could want currently to enhance your stay.

The owners have gone to great lengths to make sure you want for nothing and have renovated and maintained the property beautifully. Restaurants and shops are nearby and the local grocer is very well stocked with everything you could possibly want.

I have already recommended this cabin to friends and family and see no reason that it would not become an annual retreat for my husband and myself for years to come. Thank you for a great vacation!

Everything we wanted- and more!

  • 5 of 5
What a great week at this unique property! We were looking for a clean, well kept, cabin on a quiet lake and this property was perfect. We brought our bikes and golf clubs and when we weren't on the lake we were enjoying some of the other activities in the area. Fishing was good- with some of the best right off the dock. Spent many evenings by the campfire and mornings with a cup of coffee watching the sun rise. Jeff and Lindsay made the whole experience enjoyable. It wasn't a surprise to see that the cabin was featured in the July issue of Cabin Life magazine. All in all- one of the best vacations we've had.

The Perfect Cabin!

  • 5 of 5
This cabin is a piece of heaven on earth. Everything about our stay there was just perfect.
The owners have thought of every amenity to make our vacation fun and relaxing. The fun part: pontoon, canoe, paddle boards, firepit for campfires, close to town for shops and restaurants, a beautiful clear lake. The relaxing part: very comfortable beds, a private outdoor shower, screen porch equipped with comfy chairs and a gorgeous view of the lake, a hammock, pontoon cruises in the evening, and THE CABIN! I absolutely love this place. It was great to be able to share it with our children as well. Fishing off the dock was a favorite for our grandchildren. S'mores every night. Great grilled meals.
My only regret? Having to leave. I already have this amazing cabin booked for next year!

Fantastic updated little cottage on a small, quiet lake

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed at this beautiful little cabin for a week in June and we can't wait to come back. The cabin has been in the same family since the 1950s and the grandson of the original owner recently acquired it and completely renovated it. I have to say, they really know what they're doing. Its been fully modernized without losing any of the cozy lake cabin charm. This is not one of those giant McMansions that are popping up on many lakes in the area, and they really put a lot of thought into keeping that original rustic cabin feel. In the cabin you'll feel like you've stepped back in time to the 1950s, but you still have satellite TV, A/C, wifi, and even a kerig coffee maker.

The lake is pretty small, but cruising around on the pontoon boat is great fun, and the fishing was really good to. I probably caught 4-5 nice largemouth bass every day just bobber fishing. Lake O'Brien is conveniently located just 7-8 minutes from Crosslake, and there is quite a bit to do in the area. There is a really nice sand bar that you can beach the pontoon on and do some swimming.

This is a great cabin for a family or a small group of people. As I stated at the top, we can't wait to come back next year!

This is a beautifully restored cabin that made me feel at home immediately. The cabin, grounds, lake shore, dock and pontoon boat ARE kept, as promised, in pristine condition. The bed was so comfortable, I checked the tag on the sheets so I could buy a set! The simple Scandinavian decor was an added plus--functional and beautiful. No-fuss. The weather was stormy while we were there and the owners were kind enough to check on us. My favorite amenity was the outdoor shower!!

Owner's Response: We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. The outdoor shower has always been one of our favorite cabin features; it is good to hear that you put it to use and thought the same! Thanks again for staying! - Jeff and Lindsay Balmer
