3.) Asheville: World famous city and gem of the Blue Ridge. This city is home to the Biltmore Mansion, amazing restaurants, and great shopping. Only 40 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
4.) Downtown Burnsville: Visit Downtown Burnsville and enjoy Main Street's quaint shops and restaurants. 15 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
5.) Yancey Theatre: Historic single screen movie theatre in Downtown Burnsville. See what is playing! 15 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
6.) Parkway Playhouse: Located just outside of Downtown Burnsville this summer theatre has been in operation since 1947. It is the oldest continually operating theatre in North Carolina and offers numerous plays from June until August. 15 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
7.) Penland Art School: A nationally recognized center for education in crafts located in Mitchell County. The school offers one, two, and eight week workshops in skills such as clay, drawing, printmaking, woodworking, and photography. 30 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
8.) Celo Artisan Center: A cooperative shop on Route 80 that displays the works of Celo artists, as well as items made by other craftspeople from outside the community. There are more artists per captia in the western mountains of North Carolina than in any other region in the country. 5 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
9.) Gem Mountain: Mining experience for the whole family. Mine valuable gems just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, take home whatever you find and make your own jewelry. 25 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
10.) Crabtree Falls: Amazing waterfall, which can be accessed at milepost 340 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. From here it can be reached after a short hike. 20 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
11.) Carolina Hemlocks: Recreation center located just off NC Hwy. 80. Offers access to South Toe River where visitors can fish, tube, swim, and hike. 10 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
12.) Mount Mitchell: Highest point in the U.S. east of the Mississippi River. Accessible via Blue Ridge Parkway or numerous hiking trails. Observation tower on Summit gives the best views of entire region. 25 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
13.) Mount Mitchell Golf Club: Golf Club with 18 Championship Holes. Rated 4 1/2 Stars by Golf Digest and one of the Top Ten Public Courses in North Carolina. Open to the public and offers spectacular view of Black Mountains. 10 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
14.) Blue Ridge Parkway: Legendary scenic corridor offering views of surrounding mountains and lovely hikes. 15 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
15.) Linville Falls and Gorge: 'The Grand Canyon of North Carolina.' This is the biggest waterfall in volume in the entire Blue Ridge Parkway and is not to be missed. It can be accessed from Mile Post 316.4. 40 minutes from Sunset Ridge Cabin.
