NIPTUCKET is a light, bright & airy, happy home with comfortable spaces. NAUSHOP is our favorite place! It is a community that reflects quintessential Nantucket! Building began in this village 15 years ago and we have rented homes there each year from that time forward, often renting at Thanksgiving and Christmas too, and then returning for Daffodil Festival in April! Every experience was a positive one. We always knew that we would purchase on Nantucket one day, and that it would be in Naushop. We love the 'village feel' taking long, late afternoon or early morning walks, waving to neighbors as we pass by, many of whom return each year. We love to see children riding bikes in the safety of our private streets and dogs enjoying a dog-friendly environment. We love hearing the laughter coming from the heated swimming pool or cheers from the tennis courts. The clubhouse, kiddie pool and playground complete the picture. The convenient location adds to the luxury of being a Naushop homeowner. We walk or bike to most places; nearby Annie's Organic market, the fishery, the health club or any one of a variety of nearby restaurants. After years of real estate shopping and when the opportunity arose, we walked into 17 Goldfinch and knew immediately that it was our home. It was a home that fit our long list of criteria. We wanted a 4 story home with full basement and full attic for possible future expansion. We realized that its 4 bedrooms was a must for our growing family. We also realized that we liked separate first floor rooms to allow everyone the privacy of different spaces when the gang is all there. The location within the village itself was also important to us, as we ideally wanted the quiet of an upper Goldfinch location, the highest point in the village which looks out over those homes nestled in the lower village, particularly because of the sunset views. Our home sits on one of the larger lots giving us a larger rear yard. This was important to us as its our 'outside room', where we spend most summer days and evenings entertaining family and friends with long dinner parties that run into late-night, and fun lawn games that pick up the next day, as the new stainless Weber grill gets fired up one more time!

We purchased our home summer 2013. The outside is freshly painted inside and out, with newly designed window boxes that are professionally cared for. There are newly refinished hardwood floors throughout the entire house. The front and rear doors have new storm/screen doors. We installed wall-mounted flat screen TVs in all four bedrooms and a 60' in the Family room.

The FIRST FLOOR has a lovely welcoming Foyer accessed via a high gloss black front door with polished chrome hardware. We love the a straight view of the large rear yard from the front door. To the left is a separate Dining room for lovely dinners of 6-8. This room doubles as a Study for those seeking a private place to work. To the right of the Foyer is the charming Living room with wood-burning fireplace and built-in bookcase with seating for 6-8. Straight ahead is the large, open eat-in Kitchen with center island and pot rack above, large cook area and large eating area with a trestle table that seats 10-12. This room opens up to the intimate Family room with the second wood-burning fireplace, a 60' wall mounted flat SMART TV with the gold Xfinity package (pay per view), the highlight of the house!), and seating for 7 people. Also off the kitchen is a half bath, a side hallway with a side door, large supply closet and coat closet. French doors in the kitchen open to the yard for easy access for lovely alfresco meals. Morning coffee at the kitchen table or outside is the best.

The SECOND FLOOR, has a wrap-around hallway with window with incredible sunset views. The four bedrooms have lots of windows for a light, bright and cheerful feel and each with central air. Each of the bedrooms has a new mattress, new pillows, high-end linens and a wall-mounted flat TV screen.

The Master bedroom has a KING 4-poster white linen canopied bed, new double chest of drawers, antique writing desk, lovely linens, white fluffy towels, his and her closets, 4 windows and an en suite full bath with shower. There is a SMART TV flat screen.

The second bedroom has a FULL 4 poster bed with turgal curtains, Matouk linens, antique dresser, large closet, 2 windows and wall mounted flat screen TV.

The third bedroom has a QUEEN 4 poster bed with Matouck linens, new bedside tables, new high chest of drawers, large closet and hardwood floors and wall-mounted flat screen TV.

The fourth bedroom has two new TWIN beds with Ralph Lauren navy and white linens, Ralph Lauren navy and white towels, new dresser, large closet and hardwood floors and wall-mounted flat screen TV.

The LOWER LEVEL is partially finished with a large, separate laundry room off of it with new slate grey computerized washer and dryer and folding table.

The YARD is flat and perfect for game playing, children's activities, passing a football, luxuriating alfresco meals or simply for 'sundowners' after a long day at the beach. There is a large shed, an enclosed outdoor shower (glorious for showering on a sunny morning), a new Weber gas grill.

We love the spacious, stone gravel driveway, large enough to park three cars and very convenient when loading up the cars with lots of people and beach stuff!

The beautiful clubhouse, heated pool, two tennis courts, kiddie pool, playground and shuffleboard court complete the picture. We hope you enjoy our island home on magical Nantucket as much as we do!

About Penny Lyons

We are from CT. After 23 years of renting, our dream of owning a home on Nantucket came true in 2013. As Nantucket home owners and empty nesters, we now get to visit our 'magic island' on a regular basis, often spending 4 day week-ends enjoying the luxury of working, reading and writing from our sunny kitchen, with our Shih Tzu George looking on. Our three adult children, who now live all over the country, return several times each year to vacation in their favorite place, the island they grew up summering on, and where they had summer jobs as teenagers! Memories continue to abound while new ones continue to be made. We always spend summer vacations on island laughingly recounting the many wonderful stories and experiences we have all had. All three of our children learned to drive on Nantucket! And then there was the overprotective mom waving them in from swimming too far out, or boogey-boarding too wildly. Or the early morning wake-up call so they wouldn't over-sleep on a work morning at Vis-a-Vis or the Nantucket Bike Shop. We hold those years on Nantucket near and dear to our hearts with the hope that the next generation will continue our island tradition. We now celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas on Nantucket too, with everyone flying in from everywhere....So much fun! Thanksgiving with our family and relatives, who also own on island, is priceless...The wildly crazy Turkey Plunge at Children's Beach, followed by Bloody Marys at someones house, followed by first and second Thanksgiving courses, followed by a walk on the beach with everyone before dinner. The dreaminess of the island continues on with Christmas Stroll as 18th century carolers and party goers continue the ever-so-inspiring, Norman Rockwell like Christmas holiday on island. Owning a home on Nantucket and visiting year round is simply magical in every way. And for that we will be forever grateful that we finally own a little piece of this beautiful spit of land in the sea.

The community of Naushop is a reflection of what one would think of as quintessential Nantucket. It sits at the high point of the village looking over those homes nestled in the lower village and offers breath-taking sunset views from the second floor. It is surrounded by beautiful homes and sits on one of the larger lots in this community giving way to a larger than usual yard. Owners and renters alike enjoy the use of the clubhouse, heated pool, kiddie pool, tennis courts, shuffleboard court and playground. Our ideal mid-island location makes Naushop super convenient to town, beaches, airport, restaurants and the island's network of bike paths and public transportation, both of which begins at the end of the street! Some days we go home only to load the car and return to the beach for a tail-gate dinner with family and friends with Jimmy Buffet blasting as we enjoy sipping 'sundowners', eating dinner and watching the spectacular hot pink and baby blue sunset. OR, we may leave the beach after a long day, refresh, and go to the Galley Beach with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered cranberries from Sweet Inspirations to watch the spectacular sunset from that popular spot, which always draws an applause from its audience. When the sun has set, we move on to one of the incredible 5-star restaurants nestled in the historic downtown for one of the island's culinary excursions! For 24 years, we have remained fascinated by the ever-changing restaurant landscape of phenomenal chefs on Nantucket. We love the intriguingly creative and healthy combinations of regional and seasonal produce coupled with the ingeniously artful presentations. An after-dinner walk around the quiet town with its cobblestone streets, beautifully illuminated church spires and corner violinists, certainly helps to digest before we retire for yet another wonderful day in paradise. The next day may begin with a game of tennis and a grilled at home alfresco lunch, followed by a dip in the pool. There are many day trips to choose from, a ride on one of the many charter sail boats in the harbor, OR a deep-sea fishing trip returning with a few of island's famed 'bluefish' cleaned by the dock staff and readied to throw on the grill for dinner, OR a FREE speed boat ride out to the 5-star Wauwinet Inn by the Sea for an amazing lunch of lobster pizza, OR depending on the season, clamming or scalloping for the amazing Nantucket scallops only found on Nantucket, OR a bike ride to the beautiful village of Sconset, home of the rose-covered cottages, for an outdoor lunch on the deck of Claudette's, OR lunch at Lola's at the rotary and then a bike ride out to Madaket, followed by a late afternoon trip to the Brewery to sip its famed beer, wine or vodka and to listen to some good music. For families with younger children, the Dreamland movie theater always has one offering for children, which is only topped by the best ice cream place in the world, the JUICE BAR! Shopping is great on Nantucket. There is everything from trinkets at the old Main Street drugstore to Cashmere @ Cashmere to the designer clothing at Diane Firsten and David Chase. There is always something to do on Nantucket, regardless of weather or time of year. A perfect rainy day for us is lunch downstairs at the cozy Brotherhood by the fire while sipping a Navy Grog, a visit to the Whaling Museum then home for a cozy afternoon watching movies by our fireplace on our 60' SMART TV...the best! We lose track of time and immerse ourselves in the island's relaxing air and tempo...only to look forward to what the next day will be......
