The heating system is a radiant heating so far less noisy and less polluting than the forced air version. There are 3 zones to the heating system 2 on the ground floor and 1 on the second floor. The boiler is located in the basement along with the washer and dryer.
The home is very close to Crown Beach, a beautiful beach that runs for 2 miles along the south side of the Island. From the beach you can look across the water and see San Francisco and the Bay Bridge and all the way down to the San Mateo Bridge. There is a great ferry service that runs from the Island to San Francisco's Ferry Building and Fisherman's wharf and Pier 39. There is also easy access to the I-80 freeway that goes to San Francisco and the Bay Area at large, such as Oakland, UC Berkeley, Napa, Sonoma etc. Oakland Airport is 15 mins drive and San Francisco's International airport is 45 mins generally.
Alameda has lots of great parks, which are great for kids and adults alike. Our closest is Franklin Park (3 blocks) which has 2 free newly surfaced tennis courts as well as a great kids area. The Island is fantastic for biking as its very flat and has lots of bike routes. We have some bikes in the garage that you are free to use at your convenience. Chuck Corica golf course is 10 mins drive and available to non members and the USS Hornet museum and wineries with wine tasting on the Island are 5 mins . Oakland's Jack London Square is less than 10 mins drive and boasts an array of wonderful restaurants on the water including Boca Nova and the world renowned Jazz and Sushi venue Yoshi's.
