Overview

San Juan del Sur Townhome Rental Photos and Description

2 Br, 2 Ba Town Home 2 Blocks From Beach, Five Minutes To San Juan

Welcome to my home and to my heart. Yes, my house is more about feelings than about features. While it’s a beautiful place, it’s the sense of peace and tranquility and wonder as you enter. You open the door. Then you blink. Twice. Your gaze goes to a wall of windows that brings nature in, right in front of you. Want views?? Just walk to the window. That, too is what Casa Lucha is all about. San Juan off to your left tucked in the hills, the Bay in front of you. Wow, you say! This is why we chose San Juan, why we took a chance on Nicaragua – yet this was unexpected!

Sit down, open a beer or soda and take it all in. Then, when the nerves are settled, look around. I want this dining room table, you’ll say! Where do I get this couch and living room table?? Well, it’ll be hard to find up north, but here the wood-crafting blends in with the wooden trim, handrails, bamboo ceiling. What I have found is that my friends walk in and immediately take in the view, then with affection start feeling the wood and the surfaces and they want the same. Well, this is all yours; for a week, two weeks, month or more.

Why waste space with walls? As the photos show, the floor plan on the second floor is open with a fully equipped modern “chef” kitchen (yep! Blender for your fresh fruit smoothies!). I love to cook and MUST have all the culinary conveniences! However if you’d like a gourmet meal prepared by a world class chef, I’ll arrange that as well. Want a traditional Nicaraguan meal? No problem. So, whether you want to cook the fresh fish caught daily, or sample gallo pinto – the Nica traditional lunch and dinner, we can arrange all that for you.

The kitchen then flows into the dining room and living room and then to the patio and you know where you’ll be spending most of your time! Try to lift the dining room table. It was too heavy and large to be carried in and thus had to be assembled in my home. Watch your lower back if you try to lift it – I have no liability insurance! Comfy couch, TV (yes, cable, large new flat screen). You can now watch the news or Super Bowl in one ear as the waves provide a soothing background for the other. A DVD player , books, another exquisitely designed table in front of the couch with books galore and reading nook complete the picture. Don’t get too relaxed, the true adventure is just steps away from the front door. But, to make sure you are prepared for the new culture, I have Spanish study books so you can face the local townspeople with confidence!!

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you enter the main bedroom. I spend time here and wanted a “serene” feel – the tranquility that a bedroom should have. A brief “oh my goodness” moment as you stare at the ample king bed with designer comforter (sorry, Kenz my huggable is not included, but feel free to bring your own), wood sliding glass doors, the garden, pool, tree of all trees and vista directly in front of you! You have a fun and modern/natural bathroom with stream stones and double sink. There’s a walk in closet for your vacation wardrobe – one bathing suit, 2 pair of shorts, t-shirts, a few blouses and sandles. All the bedroom furniture is handmade – again, you can’t take it with you - but, yes, I have Wi-Fi throughout, so you can keep in touch with the REAL world – sending photos or more likely telling your friends to come on down! Or better yet, you can ignore everyone, just for a little while. This is a vacation, right?

Outside on the patio, where I like to spend quality time, there is a hanging hammock chair. Once you get in, its hard to get out!! Or, sip a cup of local premier java siting at the café-like table with rustic designed bar-stools . Enjoy breakfast “al fresco” as you watch San Juan and the fishing boats slowly wake up.

Descend the stairs – again, the hardwood tropical stairs are a knockout and at the bottom on your left is bedroom two with a “custom designed bunk style bed but with queen mattresses instead of twin. That’s room for 8 depending on size. It too has its own bathroom, again in the unique style that still surprises and delights me.

This is my home. I talk about it with reverence, pride, delight love and peace. As I mentioned it is my paradise to relax, contemplate, Yoga on the roof patio, relax after a beach run or read in the afternoon shade. It has the style of “Amy”… it’s my home. It has the modern Nicaraguan feeling with my own touches. This house is not just a “rental”. I don’t look at he ROI. It’s a place I love and I know you will too.

Oh, last thought! At night go up the winding staircase outside to the open roof. You have a choice. You can look at San Juan del Sur as its nightlights glimmer and warm breezes cool the land. Or…my preference is to lie on my back, feel the warmth of the day sun, and, as your eyes become accustomed to the black sky above, you’ll suddenly know that what you are looking out is the real one and only MILKY WAY, in a way you have never seen it before. It’s real and for the rest of your tropical vacation, it’s all yours. Soak it in. But, try not to get too relaxed out here in the night sky or you’ll find yourself waking up to the early morning dawn.

This is my slice of heaven. The peace and serenity in my get-away has a way of lowering your pulse, lowering your blood pressure. You WILL try to figure out how to extend your time, just a few days more. That is what Casa Lucha is all about. That’s why I live here and I welcome you to my home.

About Amy

Amy. A restless child since day one. Traveling, exploring, asking a zillion questions and never being one to take 'no' for an answer. A lot of us from that era were like that, but I think i stretched my parents limits. Does my picture look like I went to a woman's finishing school? Hardly.

Sound familiar to any of you? Often people who come to Nicaragua may have a variation of that in their blood, otherwise, why Nicaragua - and not Club Med in Cancun? It's dangerous, bullets are flying, Sandinistas are everywhere and its 'third world'.

I spent my professional lifetime traveling the world - everywhere from Mexico to NYC to Tokyo to Singapore to London to Kuala Lumpur and every place in between. Though I've been living in a major SE metropolis for quite a while, my restless spirit has never left me. I used to play in a band, we toured and had a blast while imagining the platinum records were just around the corner. Still haven't found that corner, but still enjoying life to the max. You could say I'm a creature of habit - but the habit being change, re-inventing myself, always being consistent by staying in shape, eating healthy, living by a set of values that define my way of looking at life, caring about the less fortunate and always willing to try something new; especially if it has a 'growth' characteristic in it for my personal development or to help others - or our planet!

In this life I've seen many cultures and I've picked up many ideas about different lifestyles and how others express themselves, in their art, architecture, clothes and more. Thus, in my home you will also see that diverse lifestyle of mine represented in furnishings, both old and new, modern and traditional styles - above all a sense of comfort and peace. Sometimes when i'm relaxing here, I compare it to my 'other' life and say, Amy, chill, relax for a while, you can do it here, just RELAX! - and then go off in search of my next adventure!

Amy purchased this townhome in 2010

Why Amy chose San Juan del Sur

When i was a child i was always curious about the world in general. Where is that country, why do they speak different languages and more. I began to develop a longing to have a place I could call home, in a different country, that I could resonate with. Let my hair down, relax, hang out with a friendly array of locals as well as other adventure minded 'gringos' such as myself.

I had started my career in Mexico, on an impulse - but a determined impulse and that commitment took me all over the world and has enabled me to look at the world through my own prism. When I decided to find another home away from home, I instinctively thought of Latin America. I always felt at home here. I always loved the people and their openness drew me closer. So when i was looking around for my new abode, I looked south and found Nicaragua and after a number of other trips I found the people here to be the friendliest and loveliest people I'd met - and San Jun del Sur fit the bill perfectly. I am not a Miami, Cancun, Vegas girl, that's for sure.

I met a knowledgable real estate broker (ask me about her) and we went everywhere. Looked at lots, resorts, condos and homes and more. When I saw this place, and loved its location, views, feeling of nature, and saw - and 'felt' the work, creativity, craftsmanship, as I've mentioned earlier, I knew this was it. I bought it and there hasn't been a day i regret that decision.

There are beautiful homes, 1-10 miles from here. Awesome homes with views that reach Tokyo but I chose an area that not only has this beautiful home of mine, but is in a neighborhood of warm friendly people. It is a stones throw to the beach and town. Walk across the 'Golden Gate Bridge' as we call the pedestrian bridge 5 minutes away, and you are in town. Minutes away, you are here. My home is special. This neighborhood is special. The people are wonderful. I know them and they know me.. This is what I call HOME - and you will too.

Amazing Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were looking for an affordable vacation and heard great things about Nicaragua so we decided to give it a try. After weeks of research, we decided to stay in San Juan Del Sur. Next, we needed to find a place to stay. I came across this place and after seeing the photos and the price decided to contact the owner. She responded right away and helped us make our decision. I will tell you, we couldn't have made a better decision. The place was absolutely amazing! The most breathtaking views of the bay. 2 balconies and a rooftop to relax on. Everything was in working order. She provided us with everything we could possibly need, including beach towels, a huge jug of water, all the dishes we needed to cook meals at home, bedding, bath towels, WIFI, even a cell phone to make local phone calls with. The property manager was always available if we had any questions or needed anything at all. The location was absolutely perfect. It was about a 3 minute walk down to the beach and about a 15 minute walk to the heart of the the restaurants and night life . There was always something to do in this town and if you wanted to rest for a day or a night, what better place to do it. We are so grateful to have been able to stay at such an amazing place and hope to return soon. Thank you Amy for opening your home to us! We are missing it already...

The accommodation was comfortable, clean and well maintained. I think a car is essential, although taxis are available. The pool was a bit disappointing, although the beach is nearby. An excellent property if you have a dog.

Great House, Great Location.

  • 5 of 5
My group on 6 (3 couples) stayed at Amy's house recently and were very happy with it. This was the last 2 nights of our vacation and we looked forward to checking out the beachside scene of SJDS. We were originally concerned that the house may be too far from downtown but we were very happy to find that it was just a short 20 minute walk. We felt safe walking (even late at night) and enjoyed many of the house's features. The pool was nice, the rooms were clean, and the place was fully stocked with all sorts of amenities. Amy was incredibly easy to work with and I would recommend her spot to anyone who ventures into the amazing awesomeness of Nicaragua!

Winter in SJDS

  • 5 of 5
I stayed in Amy's home for about a month during the high season of February and March recently. It was my first time in San Juan del Sur and second time in Nicaragua. I used my time there to study the language and generally enjoy the tourist activities in the area. Made me wish I was a surfer!

The townhome was a great base for those favorite activities of mine. I never felt I really needed a car as it was only about a 10 minute walk into town via the walking bridge. From there, there were many varieties of transportation to the beaches or to nearby towns. The variety, value and quality of the many restaurants in town made it easy to eat out on a regular basis.

If you aren't one of those people who wants to eat out every day-- and I am not-- the townhome has a kitchen amply stocked with all the tools needed to feel right at home. It was quite easy to find enough fresh vegetables and fruits to make a meal on the roving trucks that pass through the neighborhood daily.

Enough about my activities. The townhome itself has a level of construction I wish I had on my own. The systems work well, though occasional short power outages do occur in San Juan del Sur. I used the air conditioning at night and only in the bedroom. The strong breezes were very comfortable and I probably could have done without the AC on many nights. I slept quite well on the high quality mattress. The best part of the day in San Juan del Sur is typically sunset. If you find yourself at the townhome the views from the upper porch or rooftop can't be beat. For those of you who must be on the internet during vacation, the wi-fi is slow, but sufficient. The pool below is cleaned everyday and the grounds are kept in immaculate condition.

I was lucky enough to be in town when Amy was around. She is a great host and knows the ins and outs of the fun stuff to do. She also has an able local assistant when she is not around. The caretaker living next to the property keeps an eye on things day and night. Security was not a problem.

I hope this recommendation helps if you are deciding on a property in SJDS. I know I enjoyed my time there.

Why Stay Anywhere Else??

  • 5 of 5
Here's a review with a different twist. I live in San Juan del Sur part time and actually have a home that I advertise on VRBO. Hats off to VRBO because it is rented nonstop. Problem is where do I stay when I'm in town and my house is rented? I thought I knew all the places and was about to stay elsewhere when a friend introduced me to Amy (by phone) and since it was for a long term stay, I really got to experience what it is like to live this close to "the city" as I call it. I live several miles outside.

Well, staying at Casa Lucha gave me a completely different experience than I ever had thought possible. While I associated "living in the city" as a hot, noisy, rooster cock-a-doodle dooling in the morning and kids beating their drums, a national pastime, at Amy's house I was cocooned away from the noise, the early morning fruit vendors and the constant boom boom of the clubs on the beach.

It was quiet. It was warm and friendly. It was so close I always walked the short distance to town. I loved meeting the kids and neighbors. apparently they know Amy well - as soon as I mentioned her, they nodded enthusiastically. The beach was right there. If not in a beach mode, the pool was seconds away. I fell asleep on the lawn several times. The house is beautiful, whoever designed it did so with a loving hand. I don't cook but had some friends over and they said this was unlike any rental they had seen. It had more than 2 forks, one pan and 3 glasses.

Bambu, a great restaurant with Jazz, was a 10 minute walk. Ten restaurants on the beach are minutes away. After a full day, returning to her place was so nice - get away from it all and quietly chill or drift asleep on the couch. The roof is great - views of the city and I did my exercises up there.

Without going on anymore, these comments are not to stay I do not love my place but for an in town place with an outside of town experience, I really don't think this can be beat. And, like I say, for a person who has lived here and thought he knew everything - finding Casa Lucha was my great fortune and I think with the luck I'm having with VRBO at my home, I think Amy and I will be doing some arm wrestling more often.

Notes:
My house has been a truly wonderful experience. When I took the leap of faith and bought this, there was a bit of trepidation about Nicaragua. Will I regret it later, is this the right place in San Juan where I wanted to live?? After 3-4 years the answer is a resounding YES YES YES! I love it here. I wish I was here more than 3 months a year. I love waking up and going jogging on the beach 3 minutes away. I love seeing the locals sleepily getting ready for a new day at 7 AM. I love coming home to a super comfortable home. I love going out at night and then quickly and safely walking home. I love my neighbors and they love me. I love the tranquillity, the city, the country, its people. And, I love everything about my home, no regrets. What don't I like. Forgetting my SPF 30. Cold winters back East.....oh, that's why I'm here and I know you will love it too and see why the word LOVE permeates my feeling about my home. See you soon!
