My wife and I have lived in our Costa Rica home for the past 6 years. Traveling back and forth to the US, we stay for a 6 month period. As a retired School administrator from Alaska, we decided, no more cold. Costa Rica fit the bill. When not here we live in Las Vegas and travel around the US.
We settled on the south coast of Costa Rica because we wanted a beach type lifestyle. We looked at many different area in Central America and found that CR met our needs. Stable Govt, No active military, Education is a priority here. Lush, tropical and not too far from the US.
We knew right away that this was the place we wanted to call our home away from home.
Casa Conga is off the main road so we get much less noise and far less traffic. We are right at the base of the jungle so it is not uncommon for us to see wildlife daily.
Although Jaco is not for everyone, it offers the best restaurants and shopping that can be found for miles around. If you are into surfing, Playa Hermosa is home to world champion surf contest on a regular basis. (Weekly at the Backyard on Friday) Annually in June.
I would not suggest beginning surf enthusiasts to try Playa Hermosa for a first. Playa Jaco is a great place to learn.
Want to zip line. Try Los Suenios, For my money, it is the best!

Located within 10miles of the house is Costa Rica's renown Sea turtle refuge. Few guests have the opportunity to experience the hatching and release of hundreds of sea turtles, The central coast is home to the Green Sea and Leatherback turtle. Visitors to the preserve are invited to learn about the turtles and have an opportunity to release them back to the sea only hours after being hatched. ( Late Dec.through Feb.)
If you are a fan of the Capuchin white faced monkey, the south coast is the place to visit. Located just north of Quepos is a boat tour that allow visitors to get up close and personal with the monkeys. (see photo) The tour is approximately 2.5 hours and good for all ages.
A little further south and you come to Manual Antonio, One of Costa Rica's premier National Parks and spectacular white sand beaches.
Activities abound in and around Jaco. Zip lining is one of the highlights of a visit to this area as well as white water rafting., bird and butterfly viewing and even volcano viewing. There is even a spice tour that can be taken to learn where vanilla and chocolate come from.
For a relaxing day at the beach, Estarillos East and West offer miles of beachfront to explore and look for sea shells (especially at low Tide). Small tavernas offer a variety of foods to eat and drink will visiting.
Less than 2 hours down the coast brings you to the town of Dominical. This is another small secluded beach that most locals find attractive and quiet.
