Sara Sasse' purchased this house in 1926

This home was my grandparents home where they lived for over 60 years. When my beloved grandmother passed over a decade ago, I spent a full year replacing things like the furnace, electrical and plumbing and completely remodeling to keep the 20's charm while giving it an updated look. I LOVE this home :) Fortunately it is also in a great location with easy access to everywhere that Portland and surrounding vicinities has to offer.

Cozy and comfortable with all the amenities including a fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, plush towels and linens and washer/dryer. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Lots of sunny windows, beautifully faux painted throughout with hardwood floors throughout and a fully fenced back yard and detached garage.

Perfect for a small gathering of friends!

  • 5 of 5
Had a really nice time staying in this house. A group of us were interested in checking out what Portland, mostly hiking and local breweries. This house is nicely situated to get to just about everything. Most importantly for us, it is on the east side of town in a nice quiet neighborhood with closer access to hiking in the Columbia River Gorge area. The drive to Multnomah Falls was only 35 minutes (it's incredibly scenic, so feels like less) and the Wahkeena Loop is one of the best hikes I have been on recently. The hike was 7 miles with 10 waterfalls, plenty of challenge, and never ending green. If you stay downtown, it would have added 20 minutes to the drive.

As for the house, plenty of room to spread out inside. A great upstairs bedroom, nice living room and a kitchen that is ready to be used - and we did use it. The backyard was another key attribute for us. We used the BBQ one night. Great area for congregating while the chef manages the grill and a great picnic table for eating outside. Couldn't have been more satisfied!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5
Ooh, we just loved this house! So peaceful and quiet, and just the right size for us and our two children and our dog Snoopy. The home was immaculate, well-stocked and beautifully furnished, complete with movies and games for the kids. The chocolates and treats left for us and the dog bone for Snoopy was a nice welcoming touch.

We relocated from Nevada and needed a place to stay while looking for a permanent home in Portland.

What a relief it was to be able to just move all of our belongings into the garage and not have to unpack and have everything provided for us. It was like being on an extended vacation until we purchased our own home. Sara and Fred were gracious hosts and very helpful whenever we had questions.

The home is lovely, very comfortable and well-situated with nearby grocery and freeway access closeby and convenient. The bus stop was just across the street so our teenagers could get around on their own (handy for us). Portland had a few hot days but never as hot as Nevada, and we were comfortable with the air conditioning in the upper level only. The fenced back yard was perfect for Snoopy and for our family barbeques.

After searching for a more permanent residence, we realize that the price is very good considering what is out there. Highly recommend!

A nice quiet spot in Portland

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 4 from New Zealand stayed for 4 nights. Sara was friendly and answered emails quickly so the booking was made without a hitch. A house is much better than hotel rooms as our children are at university and we would need to book 2 separate hotel rooms.
We arrived late at night which was not a problem as we had a code to open the door. Plenty of room and a nice quiet area. It was also close to the airport. You need a car if staying here. While there may be public transport nearby it is still a 20 minute drive into town. There is a Safeway and a nice Whole Food supermarket nearby. The kitchen seemed to be adequately stocked but we never did any cooking. Wasn't sure how the TV worked as it seemed to be off the internet so it was hard to find any programmes to watch and there were no instructions. Maybe other visitors know how this works but we don't have this system in New Zealand.
Nice quiet street with off road parking. Easy trip downtown with the gps. Visit Evergreen Space and Aviation Museum which has the Spruce Goose if you want a nice day's outing. This museum is in new buildings with some nice space and aircraft displays. Do your shopping in Portland as it was the cheapest place in the US we visited as there was no sales tax or other taxes.
Visit the Multnomah waterfall as it is close to the city and the hike to the top isn't too bad.

Gorgeous vintage home

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed here after a few days spent at Cannon Beach during Spring Break. This beautifully appointed vintage home is exactly as you see in the photos. It's three floors - we only used the main floor, but there is a huge private bedroom in the attic which is perfect if you have another couple staying with you, and a downstairs where the laundry facilities are. The decor is "shabby chic", which is designer-speak for very cool! It's my style, for sure. A full kitchen, a large living room (with super comfy couch), two main floor bedrooms and a great bathroom. I love having a separate dining room where we could eat, with a really pretty cherry blossom tree growing outside your window. The neighborhood is pin-drop quiet, which is what we were looking for. After a day spent discovering the fabulous city of Portland (10 mins away - seriously), we came home to a lovely clean little house where we could put our feet up and watch a movie. Initially I was thinking we needed to stay right smack downtown, but since we had our car with us, it was super easy to navigate the roads to get yourself downtown. Sara had city maps and Portland visitor info in the house, so you didn't need to look for any Visitor's Center. If you are thinking that staying downtown is your thing, that's great, but you sure won't find a lovely little home like this that offers so much space with great decor. We were the first ones to stay here (surprise to us!), and everything she has outfitted the home with is brand spanking new, from sheets (cotton, not polyester!) to candles to kitchenware. We were so pleased that Sara seems to have thought of everything you might need. I can't emphasize enough how close it actually is to the city; you just drive down Sandy Blvd and in a few minutes merge into one of many bridges that bring you right into the city center. And parking downtown is a breeze; cheap, compared to Vancouver, BC prices! Whole Foods, Safeway and Trader Joe's are literally 5 mins away, so it's easy to stock up on your way back home. Easy access to all major routes, and Portland has an amazingly easy highway system. Absolutely highly recommended if you don't want a postage-stamp sized hotel room. Cheaper, too. Thanks, Sara! We loved it!
