|Minimum Stay||3 - 5 nights|
Perched on the top of a tree covered hill overlooking Hayden Lake, its Tudor style inspired our kids to name it 'The Castle House.' You will love our home. It is beautiful and large (appx 4500 sq ft), yet cozy and intimate at the same time. It is perfect for couples, families, or multiple families. The great layout allows for both privacy and inviting spaces for gathering.
The main floor is an entertainer's paradise. Imagine gathering with your family or friends in the open concept chef's kitchen overlooking both living and dining spaces. The kitchen includes high end appliances, 2 drawer dishwashers, prep sink, beverage fridge, and a professional 48' double oven range. The lake view dining room table with seating up to 8 sits next to a gas fireplace and is open to a cozy living room with inviting couch, recliner, antique mantle, wood burning fireplace and television. The cozy breakfast nook offers more lake view seating for up to 6 and a cupboard full of board games and cards. People can dine, play games, chat, sit by the fire and watch television, all in close proximity to one another. Step out the slider to the expansive deck with gas grill. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying the lake view by day and the city light view by night.
Also on the main floor you will find both a powder room and ¾ bath.
Last but not least is an office, complete with desk and printer. The office also sleeps two. This is a perfect space for a grandparent or anyone who might have difficulty with stairs (Please note: sleeping arrangements in the office include two twins, one of which is a trundle which sits low to the ground. It may prove difficult for some seniors to get in and out of).
Winding up the wooden staircase with wrought iron rails, you will find a balcony with a seating area perfect to read a book, or watch for deer in the front yard from the window seat.
The master bedroom is certainly fit for a King and Queen with King size bed, gas fireplace, television, private deck, huge walk in closet (the closet used to be a bedroom), en suite bath with travertine throughout that includes stand alone deep soaking tub, two vanities, steam shower with two shower heads, heated floors and separate enclosed toilet.
There are two additional bedrooms upstairs. One has a queen bed, the other a full bed.
You will also find an additional full bath and laundry room (You can even admire the lake as you fold your laundry)
This is a walk out space with a slider and 10 foot ceilings throughout, so there is nothing about this space that says 'basement.' It's perfect for a second family or the teenagers! It is a private suite with expansive shaded deck, living area, bedroom with king bed, ¾ bath and kitchenette with sink and microwave.
While the adults are enjoying themselves upstairs, the kids will love playing in a space of their own. There is a very large playroom with foam rubber flooring that offers a swing, mini basketball hoop, ample toys such as a lego table, blocks, matchbox cars, play kitchen, tables and chairs, books, and games for younger children. The playroom also offers a space for the teenagers. How cool for them to escape to their own comfortable
teen lounge for hanging out ,watching TV or play Pac Man on the “old school” arcade game.
We are sure you will feel at home in the Castle House!
Hi! from Mark and Karen! We LOVE our Castle House in Coeur d'Alene! After buying it, we put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into making it what it is today. Sadly, not long after our project was completed, we needed to move closer to Mark's work. So, we decided to start a new adventure in the vacation rental business. Since we can't be there full time, it's exciting to be able to share it! We know you will love being there as much as we do.
Karen Winter purchased this house in 2006
We chose Coeur d'Alene because of the natural beauty:lakes, trees, and wildlife!! There is nothing more peaceful or calming to us than floating on the lake or listening to wind through the pine trees.
Both Mark and Karen were looking at home listings together one night. We had looked at one after another, but hadn't found anything really awe inspiring. But, when we saw the picture of our house for the first time, we were stunned in a good way!! I guess it took our breath away! It reminded us of something that would be in a fairytale- something totally unique to the area. It was the Tudor style that inspired our kids to name it 'The Castle House.' The name has stuck ever since.
The first thing that made us fall in love with this home was the VIEW to die for: the lake, trees and mountains! And, at night, city lights! It has it all! Seeing a doe with her two spotted twins in the yard the first time we were at the house helped too.
We are only 1 block from the National Forest, where you can take a nature walk.
The home is in close proximity to more outdoor recreational activities than we can mention. Here you are close enough to town, yet far enough to feel like you're 'away from it all'. The serenity of the nature surrounding the neighborhood makes it easy to relax.
You'll have the best of both worlds here. You can easily enjoy the lake (it's 10 minutes away), but escape the summer noise of the lake and still enjoy it's beauty at the house. Did we mention the views?
We have a fantastic gourmet kitchen if you love to cook, but if you don't, you are close to great local dining. Karen is a huge fan of the unique shopping.
With all the space the Castle House is perfect for multiple families or multiple generations. Although the space is ample, the feeling of the home is warm and cozy.
We love the tudor style architecture. The home has so much character. Having kids we knew the separate play/hang out space for kids and teens would be perfect.
We love to be surrounded by friends and family so the large decks for outdoor entertaining during the summer are the best, while we have plenty of room for gathering indoors by the fire during the winter.
The location of the Castle House is also perfect for holidays!! Do you have family scattered far and wide at Christmas? Having trouble getting everyone together? How about an early celebration? Start with a Thanksgiving dinner at the house, then celebrate the beginning of Christmas season starting the next day! The Coeur dAlene Resort hosts festivities the day after Thanksgiving, such as the Festival of Trees! Enjoy a banquet hall full of magnificently decorated trees amongst other things!
Or, how about the 4th of July? Not only is this prime season for enjoying the lakes of the area, but our decks are perfectly situated to enjoy the Hayden Lake Country Club firework show that takes place on the lake! Have a BBQ, and watch the fireworks without leaving the comfort of home!
The Castle House is perfectly situated to provide a sense of being secluded and close to nature, yet close enough to necessities and attractions. Deer frequent our yard, and there is a national forest within a 5 minute walk from the house with a hiking trail. A quick drive down the hill, and you'll find groceries, a drug store, a nail salon and deli, just to name a few. Daneen's is 10 minutes away, and has one of the area's best wine selections in addition to great sandwiches and more!
In about 15 minutes, you'll be at Hayden Lake Marina, one of our absolute FAVORITE summer time destinations! You can rent a boat (mention the Castle House and receive a 10-15% discount) and spend the day on Hayden Lake- a pristine and peaceful setting with very little boat traffic. After boating, pull in, be greeted at the dock by one of the Marina's very friendly and helpful employees, and have a drink and/or dinner at
the Boathouse Restaurant, which is right there at the marina! If you just want to take a dip, try Honeysuckle Beach on Hayden Lake.
If you have kids, they'll LOVE Raptor Reef Indoor Water Park, or the whole family would enjoy bowling at Triple Play- both just down the hill from the house.
Coeur d'Alene is about 15 minutes away, and offers so much in terms of biking, hiking, swimming, coffee houses, specialty shops, art galleries unique boutiques, antiquing and restaurants all on Sherman Avenue. Coeur d'Alene Adventures can get you set up with all your recreational needs: bikes, kayaks, etc!
For dining, we like Tony's on the Lake, Cedars Floating Restaurant, Beverly's at the CdA Resort, Capones and Bonsai. Looking for something really casual? If in season, try a huckleberry shake at Paul Bunyans!! Or, for a very unique dining experience, you can try the Clark House.
If you want to venture a little further out (but not too far!), you can try Farragut State Park- it's absolutely beautiful!! OR- Silver wood Theme Park is AWESOME! There are rides galore, including an enormous wooden roller coaster and a massive outdoor water park with attractions for all ages from toddler to adult!!
The incredibly quaint and scenic city of Sand point is just an hour away too. The drive in itself is a treat- so scenic. In the city, you'll find unique shopping, restaurants, and you won't want to miss City Beach.
In the winter, you have three places to ski to choose from all about an hour from the house. Or, stay close to home and enjoy a day of nearby sledding, come home and kick your feet up by the fire!
Winter time is also prime for bald eagle watching on Lake Coeur d'Alene. Check into cruises at the CdA Resort. You may also see some over Hayden Lake from the windows at home!
