This is a loft style unit with a full bath, carpeted, a large sunny deck, skylights, garage and a private entrance. You will also find a coffeemaker, toaster, refrigerator, microwave, utensils and dishes in the room.
The unit is located approximately 3.3 miles from Aptos Village, CA (established 1851).
This is a beautiful and tranquil environment in the redwood forest above the morning fog with an abundant population of birds deer and other animals. It is within biking distance to long sand beaches and over 30 miles of hiking and biking trails in the Nisene Marks State Park.
A beautiful setting along the Redwood trees, birds and deer.
Outdoor activities are everywhere! Learn scuba diving, surfing, paddle boarding or even sailing. Monterey Bay is a premier diving location.
In Aptos itself you will find a modest array of shops, restaurants, Yoga studio, Pilates studio and coffee shops including an amazing bakery. Our Saturday Farmer's Market is a little treat in itself.
A quaint local coffee shop called 'Norma Jeans' that has everything you would expect, a unique burger joint called 'burger' (duh! - great for Gluten free folks), a little local theater that serves organic popcorn and our new BOOKA restaurant in an old Victorian Hotel.
Other upscale eateries are in downtown Santa Cruz (check out Laili!
Santa Cruz is world renowned for its laid back lifestyle and is about 6 miles down the road if you are looking for a little night life. If you are a health conscious traveler you will be delighted to find an abundance of Health Food stores in the area.
For public transportation there are buses 3.3 miles away in Aptos Village which can connect you up to a decent public transit system that will take you all the way to San Francisco fairly efficiently. There is a bike rental shop in the village for getting about in the local area. Its mostly flat and easy to get to beaches and Santa Cruz by bike.
Santa Cruz downtown is an interesting place to just stroll and listen to street musicians and the Board Walk is a favorite place to take a ride on a roller coaster, scream, and get sick eating cotton candy on all the other thrill machines while overlooking the beach and Pacific Ocean. Our son would love to be your personal guide there. But he won't be.
For a more easy going experience, whale watching is popular and the famous Monarch Butterflies at the Natural Bridges State Park are in easy reach. Reasonably priced charter sailing boats are available to explore the wetter side of the area.
And let's not forget the Monterey Sea Aquarium. A MUST for kids and adults alike.
Enjoy waking up to the sounds and feel of nature.

Hello, Hi, Bonjour, Guten Tag, Hola!
Katrin has worked in import-export in Luxemburg, worked as a professional photographer, set up an art gallery, had a successful line of digital print skirts and laptop bags, set up a cozy little coffee shop called 'Kafe 99 Square Feet' whose new owners still serve coffee and tasty things in San Francisco, managed projects and client services (and still does).
She is impossibly fascinated with the lives and behaviors of others to the point of staring at them (but not in a spooky, bad way), and takes gorgeous photographs.
Seth is a serial developer, developing software by day for others (Django, Python, Ajax, Java, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera) and business possibilities by night, of which Petal & Stem is only one (renewable alternative energy, anyone?). His interest and curiosity about life in general and human beings in particular amazes lesser folk, inspiring others to leap forward with him to answer the question 'What if...?'
Jello makes him happy, and he plays a mean recorder.
We live, for the moment (always! always for the moment!), in the Redwood Forest above Aptos, California, where we dream of making the world a better place through our entrepreneurial endeavors.
Did we say that we LOVE our children? Yes, we do!
Welcome to the hood!
Katrin & Seth Birkholz purchased this studio in 2013
We believe that this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Nature, Ocean and the Santa Cruz climate make it an unbelievable experience.
In the midst of redwoods with the ocean so close by! Cant' beat this location! Hiking, Biking, Beach.
Great place to stay. Parking was a little tricky... Definitely would stay there again.
This was a clean and comfortable property. The owners' directions were easy to follow. The guestbook in the room provided current info on dining, etc. Also provided were a variety of reading materials for all ages/interests. The owner provided a selection of snacks/teas, etc - very thoughtful. We spent very little time there, but were comfortable when present. Our visit was during a December cold spell, and we ran out of propane for heat, but there was a back-up electric heater so there was no problem.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.. My only complaint would be that we didn't have enough time to enjoy the accommodations! My husband and I, along with my adult daughter, stayed comfortably in the super large loft. Furnishings were beautiful, view was relaxing, kitty on the deck was an added bonus! The area is amazing, the forested setting so close to the ocean breeze, the feeling of seclusion and yet minutes from town,, really the perfect spot for a getaway. We can't wait to return!
If you are the adventurous type who is looking for a quiet location close to nature, this is for you. Located adjacent to the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, this forested community has deer, racoon, etc., in abundance. The rental is one very large, spacious room with 2 beds and a full bath above a garage (not wheelchair accessible). A refrigerator is available for food storage, along with a toaster and coffee and tea facilities. If you have a camp stove, you can cook out on the patio and enjoy the forest view. The owners are very accommodating with regard to dish washing assistance. My week stay here was very pleasant and enjoyable.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay. The loft is big and comfortable. The place is quiet. The owners are very friendly and responsive to the guest's needs.
