. Our villa is three bedrooms. It is let with private and exclusive use of swimming pool, a beautiful 8 x 4 m fully tiled pool, terrace and Abris (walk in pool cover). The villa is on the groundfloor with views of sailing boats from the kitchen/diner. A short stroll along the lagoon will take you to one of Marseillan's three ports, restaurants, shops, supermarkets and colourful Tuesday market. Boulangerie just 1min walk. Just installed, a superb pool cover creating a sub-tropical warmth and ambiance with pool temperatures of 24 degrees , equivalent to summer pool temperatures . Patio doors in the pool cover at both ends for cool breezes if required, or entire pool cover slides back for an open air pool.

Never a dull day in Marseillan : Water sports - such as sailing and boating within minutes from the house .There are two sailing schools for all levels here , dinghy and catamaran hire at reasonable rates.

Swimming - There are miles of sandy beaches at Marseillan Plage , just 10 mins drive away (4 miles) or a 20 minute bike ride along the Etang de Thau (salt lake), a painless ride along scenic flatland with nesting flamingos and egrets.

River and Canal Cruises - the Canal due Midi starts here at the Etang, just a 5 minute walk from the gite along the lakeside, arrive at the famous school called Glenans and watch the canal boats as they motor past.

Children's Playground - within walking distance; Tennis Courts - bookable at the local town hall. Golfing - at St. Thomas and Cap d'Agde golf clubs, only 15 mins. drive , reasonable green fees at 185 Euros for 5 days. Brocante Fair (Antiques market) is set up every Sunday, about 10 mins by car. Nocturnal Amusement Parks - three in the area.

Food and Restaurants : . At least 24 restaurants to try in Marseillan itself, and more than 300 restaurants around the Basin du thau, very fresh fish caught on the day, oysters and mussels are their speciality. Oysters are farmed right here in Marseillan , a short walk will bring you to producers where bags of oysters can be bought for small change.

Our local Carrefour supermarket sells good fresh fish, and meat. and a whole range of groceries.

Just a short distance away: City tours include the historic towns of Montpellier and Bezeirs.

An excellent base for exploring the hinterland with canoeing, walking, and discovering wine domains.

Surrounding Area - Historical towns like Pezenas and Agde, St Guilhem le Desert, and further afield, the Pont due Gard in Nimes.

The villa is very spacious with the front door opening to the large Kitchen/Diner framed by a large plate glass window looking out to the lagoon and sailing boats. Built and furnished in 2004, all equipment and bedding are of excellent quality, with 100% cotton linen. Our lounge is well furnished with comfortable settee and lounger’s and has French doors opening to the pool, sunny terrace and stone barbecue for easy, summer dining. There is a further shower room with toilet for pool use. Three spacious bedrooms are beautifully appointed. ALL BEDROOMS HAVE EN-SUITE FACILITIES and French doors opening to the pool and terrace which is fully fenced off. 1 Twin Room with extensive fitted wardrobe and en suite bathroom. Hallway with further built in wardrobe. 2 Double Bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and en suite shower rooms.

Marseillan: A typical French small town with the spirit of a fishing village. Just two mins walk to the main port, restaurants, cafes, town centre and Tuesday market. Many facilities stay open year round to serve this vibrant community and our coastal position means miles of sandy Med beaches are just an 8 min drive.

Food and Drink. Famous for its oysters from the Étang, and for the aperitif Noilly Prat. The 25 restaurants with fresh seafood, wine growers to visit, three lively ports, and its colourful Tuesday market, all add to its charm. At least 300 restaurants around the Basin.

Local Activities. Miles of 'Blue-Flagged' sandy Mediterranean beaches. Water sports, fishing, cruises to the oyster beds, along the river and up the canal. Brocante fair on Sunday, farmers markets abound, golf only 15 mins drive; and when night falls, casinos and amusement parks 8 mins drive.

Nearby. Montpellier beckons, the capital of the Languedoc, with museums and historical buildings.

Other Activities: Canal cruising on the Canal du Midi, or cruising on the Lagoon of Thau to the Oyster beds

Notes: Just installed, an Arbris des Piscines ( see photo) which provides pool temperatures of 24 degrees upwards from April till mid November. This provides an indoor pool in the cooler months, with a subtropical ambiance within the arbris which is large enough to take our sun loungers and a dining table. In the summer, the entire arbris may slide back to create an outdoor pool again, in inclement weather, the indoor pool may be activated so that your summer holidays with 'outdoor' pool ' living is guaranteed. The pool is not heated in the traditional sense, the Arbris goes one better, warm water temperatures and a warm atmosphere within its 'bubble' so that it is possible to sit out from April till mid November and to enjoy evening swims whilst dining alfresco till the small hours.

We had a fabulous time. Ruth and Colin are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet. The Gite is excellent, some of the best holiday accommodation we have stayed at. Although we have holidayed in France for many years, and this is our second stay at the Villa Guillaumes.
The new dome over the pool is a brilliant addition. You can now swim in the pool in April and even in the early morning as the pool retains its heat.
Thanks once again for a superb holiday, we will tell all of our friends.

May I say, Colin, that your anecdotes were both entertaining and educational. I look forward to Porsche and villa ownership one day soon! Great Place To Stay

Great Place to stay to celebrate 40th Birthday. Pool fantastic, hosts very friendly and helpful. Recommend a visit to Carcassonne. Especially an evening meal within the castle. Will come again but for a lot longer next time.

It has been a pleasure to be able to swim n matter what the weather. The joy of the pool being covered means it doesn't lose its temperature at night. Excellent. Enjoyed te whole area. Magnificent dinner at the Chauteau du Port. Very nice villa with everything we needed ( except a teapot). Enjoyed ourselves very much.

Wonderful vacation!

Wir verbrachten unseren Sommerurlaub 2010 als Familie mit insgesamt 5 Personen in der unteren Etage der Villa des Guillaumes (Eltern, Teenie-Mädchen von 12 und 14 Jahren, Opa). Wir hatten ausreichend Platz (drei geräumige Zimmer mit Badezimmer) und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Alle Zimmer hatten Zugang zur Terrasse, waren schlicht aber geschmackvoll eingerichtet und sauber. Die Küche war groß und für unsere Verhältnisse gut ausgestattet und der Tisch bot ausreichend Platz für unsere Familie. Über das große Fenster hat man einen Blick auf den Étang du Thau und kann morgens beobachten, wie die Sonne aufgeht.
Ein großes Highlight war der Swimmingpool. Obwohl das Meer nicht weit entfernt und mit dem Auto gut zu erreichen war (ca. 5 – 7 Minuten Fahrzeit), haben wir den angenehm temperierten und sauberen Pool vorgezogen. Der Pool ist überdacht, die Überdachung kann aber zurück geschoben werden. Am Abend wird die Beleuchtung angeschaltet, so dass man auch bei Dunkelheit noch schwimmen gehen kann.
Der Ort Marseillan ist malerisch mit einem kleinen Fischerhafen; man kann dort am Abend gut essen gehen (am Tag vermutlich auch).
Ein Auto ist sehr sinnvoll, da man ansonsten nicht sehr beweglich ist. Dann kann man gut die verschiedenen Orte der Umgebung besichtigen.
Die Vermieter Colin und Ruth waren nett und zuvorkommend. Sie bewohnten zur Zeit unseres Urlaubs die obere Etage der Villa. Die obere Etage war von einem zweiten Eingang zu erreichen, welcher vom Flur der unteren Etage (nur) mit einem Vorhang (und nicht durch eine Mauer) abgetrennt war; dies störte uns aber nicht, da sich Colin und Ruth sehr diskret verhielten. Wir haben in Englisch mit ihnen kommuniziert und hatten keine Probleme. Im Vorfeld hatten wir eine lebhafte E-Mail-Kommunikation, da wir eine Reihe von Informationen benötigten; wir haben jedes Mal eine prompte und ausführliche Antwort erhalten, was wir sehr schätzten. Thanks again to you, Ruth and Colin, for a wonderful vacation in Marseillan!
