About Bill and Holly O'Dwyer

We live nearby in Elberta, MI. We have 3 boys in Elementary School. I recently retired from The Federal Aviation Administration and my wife works at the local hospital in Frankfort.

Bill and Holly O'Dwyer purchased this cabin in 1996

Why Bill and Holly O'Dwyer chose Honor

This is an Up North Destination! We built this cabin in 1996. We chose this location for it's seclusion and proximity to the Platte River. Without any other homes in view, this truly feels private.

What makes this cabin unique

Relaxing on the deck, listening to the river and watching kayaks and canoes drift by. Not a care in the world. Put your chair in the river and soak your feet. The river is crystal clear with a gravel bottom. Occasionally you will see fish swim by.

The cabin is nice and clean. The view of the river is awesome. We could see salmon in the river from inside the cabin. The owners make for an easy transaction. We will be back!

Four adults stayed for one week, plenty of room inside and very spacious outside.

The view was picture perfect! Close to everything and far enough to be private.

The cabin is well off the road and secluded- your own piece of paradise. We have rented many vacation properties over the years, and this was the best by a long shot. The craftsmanship of the cabin , WiFi, the wrap-around deck- we never wanted to leave. Not more than twenty feet away, the Platte river and firewood fully stocked. Rather than go out every night, we (me, my wife and two kids) chose to sit around the fire and laze around the deck listening to t he Platte. Lake Michigan, Traverse city- all a short drive. We plan on returning next summer. Again, a beautiful cabin on a truly sublime plot of land. Highly recommended.

Relaxing, Private, and Close to Everything!

  • 5 of 5
We have been renting here for years. We come back every year because our family is always guaranteed to have a great time. The cabin itself is on a beautiful bend of the Platte River, where you cannot even see any other homes. The cabin is uniquely close to the river to where you can hear the river at night with the windows open. There is a small brook that also flows into the river next to the cabin as well.

It is located on the faster flowing "upper" section of the river. If you have not ever kayaked or canoed before I would recommend trying the "lower" portion starting at M-22 first. I must admit that watching the inexperienced paddlers from the deck of the cabin with a beer in hand can be amusing though. If you have some experience paddling though, it is a beautiful trip and you can literally start it right from the front of the cabin if you have your own boats. If not, there's a great place called Riverside Canoe Rental that can hook you up and actually starts you out about 5 minutes upstream from the cabin.

The owner keeps the cabin stocked with all of the essentials you need such as dishes, cookware, bedding, towels, and a gas grill. All you really need to do is hit the local grocery store for some food and you are set for the week! There's also satellite TV for rainy days, but the fire pit is probably the best way to spend the evening if weather permits.

You are literally within 20 minutes of everything you could ever want. Other rivers, small to big sized lakes, Lake Michigan, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are all right there. While staying here, my family also discovered the Cherry Bowl Drive Inn. It is family friendly and a great time if you have little ones. The pizza there is surprisingly great as well!

If you prefer to go to a larger town, Traverse City is under 30 minutes away with a decent sized mall, chain restaurants and stores, and a great downtown area for shopping and dining.

The owner of this cabin is the original owner who built it, has a great deal of pride in the property, and it shows! We have stayed here every year since 2005; often two times a year. Through that time, he has continued to keep it clean and well-maintained.

I would recommend this place without hesitation to anyone who wants a relaxing vacation close to everything but not in the middle of it all.
