Hated to leave Casa Andy after staying there for a wonderful month of January. The house itself is large, very clean, and comfortable. The area surrounding the house is very private and a true getaway for relaxation. The beach just footsteps from the house is beautiful where we could enjoy taking long walks as well as snorkeling and swimming.
The real pluses to the house for us were having wifi, the swimming pool, being able to BBQ our dinners, and to be surrounded by nature. We also enjoyed watching from the house the spectacular sunsets with colorful skies in the evening. The owners Laura and Bob were very responsive to all our emails and questions before arrival.
Loved to get up early in the morning to the sounds of birds and monkeys. Several times we saw monkeys across the street from the house. One night we were fortunate to see a turtle making a nest on the beach in front of the house.
Would recommend to have a car to be able to take in other places close by such as Tamarindo or Santa Cruz for shopping and restaurants.
If you are looking for a place that has peaceful surroundings and to get away from it all this is the place for you.
Hope to be back again soon and to stay at Casa Andy.
Beautiful place, stunning location, easy access to the beach,
Awesome house with excellent facilities
We stayed here for two weeks in November. If you are looking for something quiet and off the beaten path, you will love this place! We did! Our 1st night there, the caretaker, Magally, came to get us and said there was a turtle on the beach laying eggs right behind the house. We ran down in the intense darkness (bring a flashlight w/a red filter so as not to disturb the turtles) and were able to see the turtle. Our 2nd night we wandered down to the beach on our own and saw a turtle come up on the beach again. This time we were on our own (for awhile) and it was spectacular. Playa Junquillal was beautiful and quiet. The house served as a base to go to Ostional and Tamarindo. Hacienda Pinilla was 20 mins away. Playa Negra 5 minutes away also had a great beach and restaurant. The grounds of the house were beautifully kept, and the pool surrounded by palm trees. Laura was wonderful answering our many questions, even suggesting a local fisherman for my husband, who caught a 5 ft MahiMahi. We would love to go back to Costa Rica and stay at Casa Andy.
My friend, her son and I stayed at this lovely property for 10 days and had a wonderful time. Costa Rica is a beautiful, welcoming country, and we had a relaxing time walking on the empty beach a hundred yards from the back deck, snorkelling in the calm waters, cycling to the local stores for supplies, or driving the coast. Idyllic!
My favourite thing to do was to lie on my back on the gradual slope of the swimming pool after sunset, looking up at the amazing 3D constellations (no light pollution), listening to the frogs and toads serenading one another in the bushes as I sipped my wine! We didn't do much "tourist" stuff so I'm not qualified to recommend local attractions. However, the Hotel Iguanazul (half a mile south) had a pleasant bar, good food and an entertaining cohort of "local" ex pats and guests who have been coming to the hotel for so long they seemed like family! Nearby towns also had nice looking restaurants, but we couldn't extract ourselves from the serenity of Casa Andy long enough to explore them, and we rarely found the need to leave the property, except to stock up on groceries and wine! Saw lots of surfers on nearby Playa Junquial.
The house is spacious and well equipped, with two extremely large bedrooms on opposite sides of the main room (which comprises the kitchen, dining and living room); a good sized patio; two private decks off each bedroom; driveway within a locked front gate; a caretaker's cottage immediately adjacent to the main building. There are a couple of bikes and a BBQ for use.
The decor is simple and somewhat rustic, but pleasant, comfortable and uncluttered. The whole house has been recently painted and refreshed. The kitchen is well equipped, and the beds very comfortable. The AC worked well in the bedrooms (fans only in the main room), although we didn't need to use the AC much.
I was surprised that it was not more humid, that there was not more rain, and that there were not more insects! Apart from the occasional scuttling land crab, the resident iguana (he enjoyed sunning himself on the driveway in the morning) and the toads (night time) I didn't see much wildlife and barely any insects!
One recommendation: you definitely need a car if you want to see more of the countryside. This property is a little remote, a little isolated (part of its charm from our perspective), but you should be aware that there are few amenities within walking distance. The taxi from the airport cost approx. $100US.
This was the 2nd time my husband and I traveled to Costa Rica, but this time we brought the family!!! Laura, David, and Bob helped make our stay at Casa Andy one that we will never forget. This beautiful house was perfect for our family: my husband, myself, my mother-in-law (77 years old) and my two boys (2 years old and 18 years old). We started off each morning playing in the ocean which was composed of many lava tide pools which contained colorful fish and amazing rocks and shells. The afternoons and evenings were spent relaxing in the infinity pool that overlooked the ocean. The house was close to Hotel Iguanazul, which was a great place to get dinner and a drink, and to the estuary for some peaceful fishing. Laura put us in contact with a local fisherman from Playa Largato for a fantastic fishing charter. Did I mention that the fisherman put on a show for us by feeding his "pet" crocodile? We will definitely be returning to Casa Andy!
We just spent 5 days down at Casa Andy and it couldn't have been better. The house was great, the pool was amazing, and the location is incomparable. Steps to an amazing beach which seems like your own private white sand paradise. The location of the house is very private but within close proximity to a nice hotel and local markets. The house itself is very spacious, clean, and has all the modern amenities. There was 9 in our group and it did not seem crowded at all. Laura and David were extremely nice and very accommodating with anything we needed. They made it feel like our own residence. Thank you for a great time!!! Can't wait to get back. Mike and Gaby
This area offers an abundance of activities or the perfect relaxing getaway. There is fabulous snorkeling at low tide and swimming at high tide directly in front of the property. There are several beaches strung together ranging from white sand to black sand perfect for a long stroll or beach combing.
Other favortite activities in the areas are horseback riding down the beach, biking the back roads, surfing, yoga, stand up paddle boarding, turtle tours.
If relaxing is your intention, you will enjoy the private pool and hammocks in the shade at the house or sunbathing at the deserted playa blancas steps from the house.
