Leysin, is a high mountain village in the French-speaking Vaud canton of Switzerland, south-facing, at 1260m, overlooking the Rhône Valley. Well-known for its unique climate, claiming to be the sunniest Swiss village, with low humidity, mountains shield Leysin from cold north winds. Leysin is exceptionally friendly - part of its charm is the busy local farming community. Many of Switzerland's finest wines are produced in the neighbouring vineyards, with excellent restaurants and shops in the village and surrounding district, featuring local produce, emphasising wine, cheese, honey and mushrooms. Leysin is linked to the Rhône valley A9 motorway at Aigle by road (kept clear in winter) and a classic mountain cog railway, with fast train connections direct to Geneva city, Geneva Airport and south to Italy. Montreux, Les Diablerets, Gstaad, Les Mosses, Rougemont, Château d'Oex and Villars are close by. Leysin: a unique village, in an exceptional situation with excellent transport options.
