Looking to find the best that the Black Hills has to offer? This mountain cabin overlooking a huge lake is the ideal home base to discover it all. The fun begins only a few steps away from the back door with a lake where you can fish for trout (catch and release is greatly appreciated), swim and/or use the paddle boat.
Every day will bring new experiences as you choose to visit many of the Black Hills' major attractions that are only a few minutes' drive away. Lifelong memories will be created as you enjoy the grandeur of Mount Rushmore or take in the magnificence of Crazy Horse Memorial or ride the 1880s steam train. Exciting adventures abound with water skiing and jet skiing on surrounding lakes (Pactola Reservoir and/or Sheridan Lake), biking and hiking on Mickelson Trail, or ATV riding on some of the most beautiful trails anywhere. The history of the old west will come alive as you visit historic Deadwood which is about an hour's drive.
When the day's adventure is over you'll relax in the tranquil and secluded surroundings of our cabin. As the sun goes down you can enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature and wildlife as you watch the moon rise over the mountain and the stars begin to sparkle on crystal clear nights.
Whether you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway or an activity filled time in the Black Hills, you'll find it here.
We rented the condo with another couple for 3 days. It was very, very nice and relaxing. The condo had everything we needed and was very quite and peaceful. Enjoyed the lake just outside the back patio. Breakfast on the patio was great!! Would recommend for 4 people and Wanda was so very nice.
We stayed here the first weekend of August and really enjoyed the peaceful space. It was perfect for three of us. The decorating is very nice, the pics don't really do the space justice. It's cozy but set up well to maximize the space. The internet was slow which was a bit disappointing for our teenager but we survived. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed to make a spaghetti dinner and the grocery store in Hill City had everything we needed to stock up on breakfast items and snacks at the condo. The condo is close to the local attractions which was really handy. Wanda was a friendly hostess and clearly has worked hard to provide a comfortable place for travelers.
This house its located a few miles outside of Hill City, with about 2 miles of it a dirt mountain road. It is wide, and well maintained, but not for anyone too prissy. Also, any city folks should know the water is from a well, but it is perfectly safe to use and drink. No smells or staining. There's little to no reception in the mountains, and the internet signal is a little slow... This should be common sense to people but...
It is very peaceful and well appointed. The lake is so nice to wake up watch while having your morning coffee or tea.
Wanda was super nice and very easy to deal with. She's right next door if you need her but still let's you enjoy your privacy. We even got to meet her parents, and boy the stories they told! Her father will be 90 and has attended all 74 years of the rally! We will definitely stay here again when we can make this trip in the future.
We had a wonderful time staying here during our “Fourth of July” holiday vacation. The cabin is nestled in a private and tranquil setting, while it’s only 15 minutes away from the quaint, Downtown Hill City, where we occasionally grabbed dinner and shopped.
Once inside, you’ll be impressed by the stylish décor and filled with the warm feeling of “I’m in a cozy cabin”. The thoughtfulness and attention to details of what one might like and need, made our stay incredibly comfortable. We rarely needed anything! Its close proximity to the famous historic sites is surely another plus. Whether you’re celebrating romance, building memories with family/friends, or simply getting away, your experience at the cabin will be one to talk about for years. We foresee another “staycation-vacation” in the near future.
Caution: you will connect with nature and all of its splendors.
A fantastic place to stay! Very clean and well decorated. Location was centrally located and gorgeous setting. Wonderful host/owners! Kids loved the lake and fishing.
We stayed 5 day in one of the most beautiful areas of the United States. The weather was awesome (rain, sun shining, cool nights) all at 5K feet above sea level. The cabin was everything we are told it would be. It was like you see in the old movies where you go camping - the deco was awesome and timeless but modern. Sleeping with the window open on a cool night, well you will just have to experience it for yourself. Mother Goose with her chicks floating by on the lake! Watching a mother deer and her fawn wandering through the forest was a great sight. The deck was magical! There was a lot of activity to do in all the surrounding towns - it was an adventure and an education to know that the US offers so much to see - it was exciting to see what a wonderful state South Dakota is. I would give the cabin and our stay a 10 if I could. The trip is one to be remembered! One last thing – the morning sunrises and the evening sunsets make you want to stop time! The chair on the deck in the evening is priceless!
