San Martino is situated on the elevated site of a 14th century church, set amongst 10 acres of tranquil garden which includes a vineyard and olive groves, it has uninterrupted views of the award winning town of Montone and its surrounding hills and valley. The house has been tastefully renovated to make 3 luxury apartments, all with their own private entrances and eating areas. The 3 apartments share a beautiful 12 x 6 metre pool which is completely private, just a short stroll from the house, set amongst the vines and olives with panoramic views of the Umbrian countryside. Linda & Ben, the 2 English owners, encourage the guests to experience the delights of their home produced wine and olive oil as well as the seasonal fruits, such as figs and cherries. The garden is home to many beautiful birds and butterflies during the summer months & the fire flies are a bonus in the evenings. A welcome pack is provided to tide our guests over until they are able to shop for their own provisions.

Originally the wine cellar and garage, this ground floor centrally heated apartment has been recently renovated. There are chestnut large beams and ceiling, the double glazed windows are surrounded by brick arches. There are ceramic tiles on the floor throughout. The apartment sleeps 2 guests, the bedroom being spacious with a normal sized antique brass double bed. The room is large enough to provide a quiet sitting area for those wanting to read or just relax. There is an en-suite shower room. There is a large living/dining room which is beautifully furnished and has large patio doors. This room also includes an integral modern kitchen with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas hob, electric oven and marble and wooden worktop. It also has an electric toaster and numerous kitchen utensils. There is a selection of games, DVD’s, and books relating to Umbria/Tuscany. Outside there is a covered private terrace where it is possible to eat whilst enjoying the splendid views of the Carpini Valley.

Situated in the middle of Northern Umbria close to both the Tuscany & Le Marche borders in the area generally called the 'The Green Heart of Italy' with lush rolling hills, fertile manicured valley plains, and forests of Oaks, Chestnuts and Beeches being the home of the Wild Boar and the celebrated Umbrian Truffle. The landscape is dotted with numerous famous medieval hilltop towns, where the stunning architecture and art must not be missed. Montone is 5 minutes by car or 20 minutes gentle walk. Here there are most facilities such as a bank, bars, restaurants which serve the regions fine cuisine and small personal shops for provisions. Umbertide is 10 minutes by car and is a much larger town, offering market days and a greater selection of shops. San Martino, because of its close proximity to the E45 autostrada, is within an hours drive of Lake Trasimeno (Italy's 4th largest lake) and most of the renowned towns of Umbria/Tuscany, Assissi, Perugia, Cortona, Gubbio, to name just a few.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The rates for Amelia are based on 2 people sharing the apartment. Prices are inclusive of welcome pack, all linen, towels (including pool towels) and final cleaning. A 30% deposit is required to secure the booking. The balance of the rental charge plus a £100 breakages deposit must be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. The breakages deposit will be refunded within 2 weeks of the end of the holiday less the cost of any damage/breakages or excess cleaning. An additional charge will be made in the colder months for gas and wood that will be required. This extra charge will be discussed when the booking is confirmed. Guests should vacate the apartment before 10 a.m. and new visitors arrive after 4 p.m. Changeover day is normally Saturday but we are willing to be flexible whenever possible. Rental charges can be negotiated for longer lets of more than 2 weeks. If this apartment is pre-booked please enquire to availability of the other units where we may be able to let at a reduced charge.

Notes: Guests are welcome to make use of the following shared services at San Martino. The laundry room is fitted with a washing machine and ironing facilities and there are outside drying areas. There is a cot, high chair and pushchair available for small babies along with baby sitting by a qualified experienced professional. Mountain bikes are available for hire and pony trekking can be arranged. Linda and Ben are happy for guests to use their computer to access the internet for emails etc. They are also able to organise trips to local trattoria where real Umbrian fare can be experienced, in deed this is very popular and often is the highlight of our guest’s holiday. The services listed above are subject to reasonable extra charges. There is a welcome pack supplied for all bookings at no extra charge, and visitors are encouraged to make use of the fruit and herbs that grow in the garden. Pool towels are also supplied.

We enjoyed the peace & comfortable amenities of San Martino. Ideally located for exploring Umbria & Tuscany. Annie & Joe (Vancouver). We had a wonderful time in San Martino and enjoyed meeting both of you, from your Canadian friends Emily & Andrew. Everything about the region, the position of your house, the way it was furnished was such that we have already recommended it to friends. Small things like the welcome pack, books to read & the pleasant way we were greeted made all the difference. Susan & Ian, Cumbria. What a marvellous place & a marvellous couple. You made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. The only problem was that we couldn't keep Dan out of that great pool. Keep watering the fig trees for our next trip, we will be back to our home from home in that beautiful spot in Umbria. Mille grazie Andy, Diane, Matt & Dan. Yorkshire.
