Charleston House Rental Photos and Description

Luxurious 2-BR, 2-1/2 Bath House In Pristine Condition

The historic Sarah Clifford Guest House has been transformed into a home with high end modern conveniences while retaining its historic character. Light-filled, uncluttered and clean, the Sarah Clifford Guest House is the perfect place for a peaceful retreat within blocks of the best restaurants, performance venues, historic homes, museums and shopping in downtown Charleston. The Sarah Clifford Guest House is located behind the main house on the property where the owners live.

The ground floor of the Sarah Clifford Guest House has a comfortable living room with a large flat screen HDTV and Blu-ray DVD player. HD cable and wireless internet are provided. The dining room seats 4 people for an intimate dinner. A private, quiet patio for evening cocktails or morning breakfast is located right outside the dining room. The stunning kitchen has a Thermador professional 6 burner gas cook top and electric oven, a top of the line Thermador refrigerator and dishwasher, a microwave oven, toaster oven, coffee maker, coffee grinder, and electric hot water kettle. In the kitchen a specially made dining table seats 6 people and provides a perfect gathering place. The kitchen is fully stocked.

A cozy study for private reading and a laundry room with a Bosch washer and dryer are also located on the first floor. The first floor has a convenient powder room.

You'll find the 2 bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom, at either end of the second floor of the Guest House for maximum privacy. One bedroom has a king sized bed and the other has a queen sized bed. Linens, including 400 thread count 100% Egyptian cotton sheets and thick cotton towels are provided along with toiletries for the comfort of our guests. An ironing board and iron are provided for your convenience.

One off-street parking space, located right in front of the Guest House door, is available for the use of our guests. However, a car is not necessary to enjoy the sights, shopping, restaurants and activities offered in downtown Charleston during your stay at the Sarah Clifford Guest House. We are located within a couple of blocks of Marion Square, The Gaillard Auditorium, the South Carolina Aquarium, Liberty Square, the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, the Charleston Museum, the Joseph Manigault House, the active Upper King restaurant and shopping area, lower King shopping and the Charleston Visitor's Center. Starbucks and a dry cleaners are a half of a block away. Ted's butcher shop, a drugstore and a liquor store are within 2-3 blocks and an excellent Harris-Teeter grocery store is within easy walking distance! If you desire a nice morning or afternoon run with a view, we are close enough to the Ravenel Bridge for a scenic run or walk right where the Cooper River Bridge Run is held in early April each year.

Sullivan's Island is the closest beach, a drive of about 15 minutes or less.

The Sarah Clifford Guest House offers luxurious accommodations and top-quality amenities on a quiet, tree-lined street in the heart of downtown Charleston within a few short blocks of the places you'll most want to see and the top Charleston restaurants.

About Ann Willis and Fred Willis

Ann and Fred Willis have lived in the Sarah Jane Clifford House (the main house) for 20 years. The Willises renovated the existing houses on the property, which included the main house and a carriage house, and built what is now a third house-a guest cottage. The Willises have been in the real estate business since 1999 through their privately owned company, and have renovated several of their properties and built a country house on an island near Charleston. Over a period of three years, from 2010 through 2013, the Willises completed a second, substantial renovation of the two guest houses on the property. The Sarah Clifford Guest House has the distinctive characteristics of a Willis renovation: the perfect marriage of modern and historic, uncluttered, clean-lined, high quality construction and finishes, and attention to detail.

Ann Willis and Fred Willis purchased this house in 1993

Why Ann Willis and Fred Willis chose Charleston

Location! The Sarah Clifford Guest House is perfect for 2 couples who want an ideal location and luxury accommodations. You'll enjoy a quiet, peaceful visit with easy access to all of the places you'll want to visit in downtown Charleston, including the venues for Spoleto Festival USA, the Charleston Food+Wine Festival, the Southeastern Wildlife Expo, the Cooper River Bridge Run, the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, the upper King 'foodie' restaurants, museums, historic home tours, and King Street shopping.

What makes this house unique

The quality of this newly renovated guest home sets it apart from all of the others! Beautiful, dark-stained heart pine wood floors, wood walls, 9' ceilings in the modern addition, ceiling fans, a private, enclosed patio, luxury bathrooms, heated master bath floor, and a top of the line kitchen.

Luxury cottage with privacy -- PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5
Four adults stayed here mid-November for a special occasion. Ann and Fred made everything convenient, and the preparations upon our arrival were flawless. The bedrooms, bedroom linens, and bathrooms were equivalent to high-end luxury hotels. Our group was able to visit and relax together much more easily than if we had stayed in a hotel. Also, the full kitchen and easy access to your car (without "rip off" valet fees and charges) are additional reasons that make this property a much better option than a hotel, even a luxury property. We will visit again soon.

A Beautiful Gem in Charleston

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful property that has been so thoughtfully designed and meticulously kept. You can really tell that a lot of love and a ton of care went into building it. It's even more stunning in person than the pictures and is also quite possibly the cleanest house we have ever been in. It is spotless! But what's so amazing is how quickly you feel at home especially because everything you could possibly need is there for you. The kitchen particularly is a knockout and was such a fun place for us to gather. The home is very comfortable, peaceful and private which was perfect for our little stay and exactly what we were looking for. This is a very, very special home that deserves a lot of care from its guests and visitors.

Our group consisted of me + my husband and then we were later joined by my in-laws. We all enjoyed staying here so much and feel so lucky to have found this house for our vacation.

The owners Ann + Fred (they live in the main house in the front of the property) are so lovely, warm and personable and could not have been nicer to interact with; they really want to ensure that your stay is perfect. They are very accessible and very clear in their communication which is so nice especially when you're coming from out of town. Ann especially is a big restaurant buff and gave great recommendations to us, too!

Ann + Fred, so sorry for the long overdue review of your amazing property! The family sends a big hello and thanks again for being a part of our wonderful trip to Charleston.

Immaculate house, gracious hospitality

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at the Sarah Clifford House for 5 days in October. We've been renting through VRBO about twice yearly for 5+ years. This has been our best experience to date! The accommodations are immaculate, like new, and are stylish and luxurious. The layout is private and the location is ideal for walking to wonderful shops and restaurants. Our hosts Ann and Fred made this stay amazing. We received a warm greeting, excellent orientation to house and region with great recommendations that improved our trip. They were simultaneously very available and discrete. The home was stocked with a thoughtful array of items, going far above and beyond what any 5 star hotel would do (coffee and fresh milk, local fresh bread, cooking basics, helpful toiletries). We hope we have the opportunity to return!

Even Better than the Photos

  • 5 of 5
The guesthouse is fabulous and built to a very high specification. The location is excellent for walking around the whole of Charleston and close to a host of great restaurants, grocery stores etc. Ann and Fred were great hosts and provided a welcome pack of milk, butter, eggs, bread etc. and a file full of local guides and recommendations.
Charleston is a great place to visit and staying at the Sarah Clifford Guest House was the icing on the cake

Our first trip to Charleston and we are so glad we stayed at the Sarah Clifford Guest House. This place was incredible!!! The pictures on VRBO do not show how nice this place really is. It is much better than advertised. Every detail has been taken into consideration - even down to the heated bathroom floors. Ann and Fred thought of everything - even making sure we had fresh milk available our first morning. The floor plan; the kitchen with its huge breakfast table that Fred made; the dining room; the study; the secluded patio; and the upstairs bedrooms were simply outstanding. No detail overlooked.
The location was perfect too. Everything we wanted to see downtown was within walking distance. With so much history and such charm, it would be very easy to spend a week there doing nothing but taking pictures. So much to see and do.
Ann and Fred's recommendations for restaurants was right on target. There is no need to look elsewhere. Just follow their suggestions and you can't miss. (FIG was our favorite and make your reservations before arriving in Charleston).
Ann and Fred were accommodating in every possible way. We were treated with exceptional Southern Hospitality.
We would highly recommend the Sarah Clifford House to anyone travelling to Charleston. It is simply the best.
