Morzine-Avoriaz Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Private 4*chalet in French Alps, sleeps 8, multi-pass offer - free wifi

Chalet Papillon is an independent self-catering, detached ski and summer alpine chalet near Morzine, the French Alps. The traditional chalet fully renovated is graded four and three star, with spacious living areas and cosy accommodation - near the Portes du Soleil ski area. It can accommodate eight people in four bedrooms.

Fantastic multi-pass offer for all guests staying at the chalet. For two euros per day per adult many facilities including pools, lifts, tennis and tourist attractions can be visited throughout the Portes du Soleil area.

Chalet Papillon can be rented as two separate apartments for four persons, see owner website for prices. Chalet Papillon has a private, sunny terrace garden and mountain views. Super new upper kitchen seats eight people and also a small kitchenette downstairs. Two spacious double bedrooms and two bedrooms with single beds. Plenty of bathroom facilities.

Two TVs with international channels and wifi throughout the chalet.

The whole chalet is ideal to allow family and friends to holiday together, but be independent. Broadband with WIFI access throughout. TV/DVD with world satellite channels on both levels. There is a dedicated parking area for two cars and a storage shed which also houses the ski/boot driers for eight people. The chalet is located in a hamlet at 1,000 metres near La Baume, a village just off the main Thonon to Morzine route and one hour’s drive from Geneva Airport and 20 minutes from Morzine, Lindarets, Les Gets and the Portes du Soleil ski area.

All Chalet Papillon summer guests have access to the special MULTI-PASS offer which gives access to many outdoor and tourist activities for one/two euros per person per day. This makes for a very economical family holiday as you have little costs once you are at the chalet.

Outdoor activities: This lovely Haute Savoie Alpine region has a wealth of outdoor activities for holidaymakers to enjoy not far from our self catered chalet. Either stay in the beautiful mountains or head down to glorious Lake Geneva and Evian only 20 minutes away. Ski access to the Portes du Soleil region is excellent with Morzine only 20 minutes drive and smaller local resorts of Grande Terche nearby. Plenty of opportunities for swimming locally at Evian, Lac de Montriond and in the superb Olympic pool at Morzine. Mountain biking, cycling, walking, tennis and golf are all nearby.

There is now an excellent minibus service in the valley for only 1 euro to all the major ski and mountain resorts.

There are lovely mountain walks direct from the chalet to the mountain behind and there are a huge range of outdoor activities on offer throughout the local area.

Visit our web site which has ski and summer activity information to find out more details on all the things you can do.

Eating Out: Great fun in the Haute Savoie region. There are many traditional restaurants and ideas for eating are either Bout du Lac at Montriond, La Chamade in Morzine, Amandier in St Jean d'Aulps and a little restaurant in Le Jotty.

You will find many more in the resorts.

Try local dishes like trout from the local rivers, tartiflette and raclette dishes of all kinds.

Winter activities: Chalet Papillon is on the doorstep of the Portes du Soleil ski region. You can choose from a wide variety of resorts at different altitudes, according to the snow conditions and your groups' abilities. Grande Terche is a nearby local resort and Ardents near Lindarets/Morzine provides an easy parking area 20 minutes drive from the chalet. This then provides good access into the Portes du Soleil and Switzerland. Les Gets is also only 25 minutes drive and there is now a one Euro bus to all the resorts from St Jean d'Aulps. You can park at the Abbey and there are regular buses all day taking away driving and parking issues at busy times.

The skiing in the Portes du Soleil area is superb and connections between resorts excellent. Good ski schools at all the resorts.

Mountain walking, snow shoe walking and nordic skiing are all available in Morzine and Les Gets.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Thanks to the guys at Chalet Papillon for looking after us at the end of May. Granted the snow was still plentiful at altitude but we managed to ride from the chalet to the Tour De France mountain top finish of Avoriaz above Morzine. Special thanks go to Eric for supplying us with a selection of food which was all arranged so well by Jane and Alan. We had such a fantastic time I just had to come back again.

Location Location Location: I returned during July to do a selection of Tour de France climbs and some flatter rides around Geneva and partly up the river Rhone. Straight out of the chalet door you have views like this, a route over the Col du Corbier which can take you down to Evian and back, the Col de Joux Verte, the Morgins pass over to Switzerland from Chatel and the northern alp killer loop over the Col de Joux Plane. Just remember to save your legs for one last 9% climb back to the chalet - but believe me it's all worth it. For the more adventerous the Col de la Colombiere is either a longer ride or short drive starting out of Cluses - this was an epic climb and we rode around a 36 mile loop over the top and back round the Grand and Petit Bornand. Epic - Absolutely epic!

We have now owned Chalet Papillon for more than twenty years and love the French Alps. The property has been extensively renovated and refurbished over the years, most recently in 2013. Our family has enjoyed skiing and summer holidays from our second home at all ages. The accommodation has many home comforts. The Portes du Soleil is only a short distance and the lovely mountain backdrop provides a restful holiday. We live in beautiful Pembrokeshire and also run a successful Bed & Breakfast near the lovely National Park coast.

Jane or Alan Mason purchased this chalet in 1990

Chalet Papillon is a traditional fermette of the Haute Savoie mountains and is locate in a small hamlet. It therefore retains a very French feel. It is handy for both Lake Geneva and Morzine and the mountains so we have enjoyed different kinds of holidays over the years.

The chalet has very spacious accommodation with plenty of bathroom and kitchen facilities and is ideal to holiday with family and friends but be a little independent.

It is a short drive to several Portes du Soleil resorts, so there is plenty of choice for skiing. There is also a small resort nearby at Grande Terche.

Our caretaker lives nearby and is very helpful and prepares the chalet for your stay.

The chalet is spacious and comfortable with lovely mountain views. Ideal for families and groups of family and friends who want some space and independence, the chalet provides accommodation for a fun holiday.. There is everything you need and our French caretaker nearby ensures all is well and offers help if required. The accommodation is of a high standard, four star graded, but competitively priced to reflect the short drive to the ski slopes.

FAB LATE SPRING BREAK AT SUNNY CHALET PAPILLON!

  • 5 of 5
We spent a week at Chalet Papillon at the end of May – our first visit. The weather was warm, sometimes hot, and dry. Because we were not intending to take part in any of the winter sports opportunities (there are lots) this was perfect. The setting is beautiful with great views down the valley with its summer meadows and up to snow-covered peaks in the distance.
On arrival we were greeted by next-door neighbour Nadege who looks after the chalet with her husband Eric when Jane and Alan are not around. They were very welcoming, including providing homemade soup and some essential provisions. Although there were no problems during our stay it was good to know they were on hand if we needed any help.
The chalet itself is warm, comfortable and well-equipped (we were in the upstairs apartment) with a big dining-kitchen and large living room, giving plenty of space for all the family. The fast wi-fi is a real bonus.
As we visited before the summer season started, the lifts were not open, but we found many stunning places to walk anyway - the view of Mont Blanc was amazing!
We would definitely visit again and probably take advantage of the proximity to the Swiss and Italian borders to plan some trips further afield. But to do that we’d have to tear ourselves away from the chalet, so who knows?!

BON SKI

  • 4 of 5
We have stayed at this chalet on quite a number of occasions (skiing and walking) and always look forward to returning. We were joined on this skiing trip by a number of friends and so the Chalet was full. We plumped for the downstairs accomodation and we're especialy pleased with the new double bedroom arrangement (that replaced the fold-out sofa bed we had used before) which was very comfortable and a big improvement. The new double bed was wonderfully comfortable and the kitchenette/dinning bar worked really well. Our group ate in most nights cooking for up to 10 people and the new kitchen/dining room (upstairs) which had also been completely renewed since our last visit worked really well. The snow conditions during our 2 week stay were incredible. We had fresh snow pretty much every day and the range of ski slopes within 30 mins driving meant we could please every ability in the group. I was the nominated timekeeper and it was up to me to get the first shift up and out of the Chalet by 8.30 each morning ready to drive to the slopes. There's a good wi-fi connection at the chalet and the new online liftpass system meant we could all buy our lift passes the night before (saving 15% and avoiding the morning crush) so we were always there when the lifts open at 9 am. I shall be keeping an eye on the snow conditions but based on the fall so far I think this could be a longer than usuall season and may well try for another trip out to this delightful chalet and ski region in late March early April.

CHALET PAPILLON, LA BAUME

  • 4 of 5
One week was not long enough!

A charming chalet set in alpine meadows. Having owned a property in the middle of nowhere in the Dordogne, this was a perfect spot from which to discover this part of the Alps. While my son hurtled down the mountain bike runs in Les Gets and Morzine, the rest of the party walked to take in the stunning scenery.

The chalet itself is traditional but with all modern facilities, comfortable and relaxing. We had no problem finding the property, and received a friendly welcome from the caretaker.

Although we ventured into Switzerland and down to Chamonix Mont Blanc, there are plenty of activities to do on the door step. A walk up the Pointe de Trechauffe gave fabulous views over Lac Leman and the surrounding mountains, beautiful wild flowers and birdlife. The route up the river to the lac de Montriond and further to the cascade d'ardent is easier but no less stunning for those wanting something a little less strenuous.

We took advantage of the Multipass to access the lifts in Morzine and les Gets, but were limited at the time we went as all the lifts are not operational until late June.

I would certainly recommend it to others (but very quietly - we would like to go back again)

WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5
We spent a week’s skiing holiday at Chalet Papillon and had an absolutely wonderful time. The chalet is situated in this little ‘hameau’ with beautiful views all around. The house itself has a real traditional feel to it – with all the luxuries of modern day. We spent many an evening in front of the cosy fireplace! We are all pretty experienced skiers and were looking for a bit of a challenge. The skiing turned out to be great with a couple of very good skiing areas and some pretty adventurous slopes at only a 20 mins drive away. And on a final note: the owners are very nice and extremely helpful. I lost a very precious necklace at the Chalet, which we all searched for extensively. They managed to find it some four months later and returned it by special delivery to me!
We would love to come back some time in the near future!

LOVELY FAMILY HOLIDAY

  • 5 of 5
Chalet Papillon was very comfortable with a homely feel, great for a larger group of family and friends or for just a few. Good to have wifi through the chalet and plenty of space at a reasonable cost. The location for us was excellent as the snow in Morzine had mostly melted and we could easily head off to Les Lindarets and we also skied at Chatel where the snow was fantastic. There is a good selection of restaurants a short drive away and we also visited Evian and Thonon on Lake Geneva all less than 1/2hr drive . All in all a great holiday with Chalet Papillon being a real get away from it all. The French caretaker was also really helpful and ensured we settled in well - his traditional meal in the chalet was a nice night in for our group.

A GOOD TIME IN CHALET PAPILLON

  • 4 of 5
we found the chalet was very clean and well equipped, once we got there, but it was extremely difficult to find based on the owners directions, as it is not in the village of la baume but half way up the mountain that la baume is based at the foot of. we had to ask locals if they knew of it and luckily found someone who could direct us there. the location is not brilliant if you want the social life of morzine etc as it takes a car and 25 mins of driving to get there. the views are beautiful of the surrounding area. neighbours are sociable but have dogs that barked all day long. There is no shop in the village or bread supplier so you need to be organised on that front and visit the carrefour on the outskirts of st jean d'aulps. the chalet has steep out side steps up to the main house, so not good for small children.
the morzine pass is good and the chalet is registered for this. it gives free access to many things but NOT all, so check this out before you decide what to do for the day.
the facilities in the chalet are ok, we were not left any towels, which meant we had to go and buy some from the supermarket on the sunday morning, the tv has no reception, so you have to watch the dvd supply there.otherwise everything you would expect is there.
morzine lays on some good animations during the summer for children and for free, so we were kept busy, geneva and evian were good days out for the family and we enjoyed the cable cars in les gets, fantastic views. the mountain lakes are beautiful and great for swimming. accrobranch in les gets was a good afternoons activity for the teenagers.
we had a great time, the weather was good and once we were organised with car trips into the towns it was a good holiday for all. we will return to this area again in the future but more centrally located I think.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you had a great holiday. Sorry you had a problem finding it – we will review our ‘how to find us’ directions to make it clearer but have not had any problems previously. Our information and booking form clearly states that towels are not provided, but we will review this. We have been letting for 15+ years and have not had this misunderstanding previously. We are really pleased you took advantage of the euro pass – this is a great initiative that we subscribe to as part of the local tourist programme and saves a lot of money on entrance fees for our guests . Being in the mountains means that we have to contend with slopes – hence the steps and the poor TV reception – however we will see if we can improve this but many families have stayed at the chalet over the years and never sais they found the steps a problem..

We have spoken to our neighbour about the dogs barking and he has re-assured us that he will look into the problem - but if any of our clients experience this please mention it to him whilst you are there.
Being a distance from Morzine does mean that we offer very competitive prices – we are up to ½ the price of an equivalent chalet in Morzine in peak seasons and we offer spacious and comfortable accommodation – It also means that we are also only 25 minutes to Lake Geneva (Thonon) where you can easily access the lake and all the facilities that are on offer there – sailing, swimming, shops, restaurants, trips on the lake, etc. The fabulous Evian is a further 10 minutes away. There are always plenty of shops on the way to and from the chalet to pick up provisions and there is an easy bread shop in the village opposite at Le Biot. The attractiveness of the chalet is its traditional feel and mountain location which is not always found in the more tourist resorts.
