About Jane or Alan Mason
We have now owned Chalet Papillon for more than twenty years and love the French Alps. The property has been extensively renovated and refurbished over the years, most recently in 2013. Our family has enjoyed skiing and summer holidays from our second home at all ages. The accommodation has many home comforts. The Portes du Soleil is only a short distance and the lovely mountain backdrop provides a restful holiday. We live in beautiful Pembrokeshire and also run a successful Bed & Breakfast near the lovely National Park coast.
Jane or Alan Mason purchased this chalet in 1990
Why Jane or Alan Mason chose Morzine-Avoriaz
Chalet Papillon is a traditional fermette of the Haute Savoie mountains and is locate in a small hamlet. It therefore retains a very French feel. It is handy for both Lake Geneva and Morzine and the mountains so we have enjoyed different kinds of holidays over the years.
The chalet has very spacious accommodation with plenty of bathroom and kitchen facilities and is ideal to holiday with family and friends but be a little independent.
It is a short drive to several Portes du Soleil resorts, so there is plenty of choice for skiing. There is also a small resort nearby at Grande Terche.
Our caretaker lives nearby and is very helpful and prepares the chalet for your stay.
What makes this chalet unique
The chalet is spacious and comfortable with lovely mountain views. Ideal for families and groups of family and friends who want some space and independence, the chalet provides accommodation for a fun holiday.. There is everything you need and our French caretaker nearby ensures all is well and offers help if required. The accommodation is of a high standard, four star graded, but competitively priced to reflect the short drive to the ski slopes.

Thanks to the guys at Chalet Papillon for looking after us at the end of May. Granted the snow was still plentiful at altitude but we managed to ride from the chalet to the Tour De France mountain top finish of Avoriaz above Morzine. Special thanks go to Eric for supplying us with a selection of food which was all arranged so well by Jane and Alan. We had such a fantastic time I just had to come back again.
Location Location Location: I returned during July to do a selection of Tour de France climbs and some flatter rides around Geneva and partly up the river Rhone. Straight out of the chalet door you have views like this, a route over the Col du Corbier which can take you down to Evian and back, the Col de Joux Verte, the Morgins pass over to Switzerland from Chatel and the northern alp killer loop over the Col de Joux Plane. Just remember to save your legs for one last 9% climb back to the chalet - but believe me it's all worth it. For the more adventerous the Col de la Colombiere is either a longer ride or short drive starting out of Cluses - this was an epic climb and we rode around a 36 mile loop over the top and back round the Grand and Petit Bornand. Epic - Absolutely epic!
