Loved it!
My sister, nephew, husband, our small dog and I all converged in San Francisco from Portland, Atlanta and LA. We were looking for the perfect place to hang out as a family and to serve as a home base for exploring SF. We couldn't have asked for a better home!
The things we loved: The master bedroom is spectacular, mostly because of the incredible views and large back patio overlooking the area. Stunning. And the rest of the home is just so comfortable -- really nicely decorated, lots of space, great dining area, and a really nice kitchen. We cooked several family meals and had a great time hanging out. Again, especially on the back patio, where we drank our morning coffee. Although the city is easily accessible via car, you truly felt like you were far away. So peaceful and tranquil. It felt like a true escape.
The things we didn't love as much: One thing to ask is if the space next door is occupied by a full-time tenant or rented out as well. The reason I mention this is because they were incredibly loud and kept us up late at night. The way the apartment building is situated, there is a hollow area going through the middle of the apartments, which is great for getting in more light (and very cool architecturally), but also allows a lot of the noise to carry from the other apartment (when they were being partying/yelling at night -- all other times, it was ok). Also, parking can be tough. Having said that, you DEFINITELY need a car since the house is a bit of a trek uphill from the Castro/buses/trains - which is also important to know. It's a trade-off -- the peaceful, tranquil experience you get from feeling far away vs. the convenience of being able to walk out of your door to catch the bus or train. Finally, if you have a dog, be aware that the number of places to take your dog out to pee/poop are limited. Like any city, there is a lot of concrete and very little green grass nearby -- unless you want to go into the wooded area across the way, which didn't seem like a great idea.
I only mention what we didn't love because it seems smart to know certain things prior to renting. But, honestly, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS HOME and WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT

Owner's Response: I am pleased that overall these guests loved the apartment. I do want to respond to their experience with noise during their three day stay with us. I share this apartment with visitors to San Francisco because I live here part time and do not want a full time tenant. I so love this property in part because of the peace and tranquility here. I spend about 10 days of the month at Casa Buena Vista and I cannot remember the last time I had noisy guests in the apartment below. I usually don't even know if they are in the apartment or out enjoying the city. I have zero tolerance for noise. I have no idea what was occurring the weekend described in the review. There is a lightwell, as mentioned, by the guests. We keep the French doors to the lightwell closed to eliminate any excessive noise from carrying to the upper flat. I have never known it to be otherwise. If the guests were not respecting the quiet environment we strive to achieve on the entire block, I wish the upstairs guests had either spoken to the other guests or called me. We would have acted upon the situation immediately.....not only for them but for my neighbors who are professionals that love our tranquil little block.
Regarding the hills....yes, you can walk up and down the hill as I do. You can also walk for one minute up a flight of stairs and take a bus. You do NOT need a car.
Finally, this is a dog friendly neighborhood. Most of my neighbors have dogs. A dog park is a 5 minute walk from the apartment, and the green area across the street is a perfectly fine place to take your dog if you aren't in the mood for a walk.
