(Second bedroom is a huge loft which easily sleeps 4, please see pictures) This beautiful Chalet offers great curb appeal with a large deck to enjoy bbq's, entertaining and the mountain fresh air. Enter the cabin and enjoy the layout with nice huge vaulted ceilings, typical of Swiss European Chalets, airy open floor plan with a modern but rustic feel! Nice living room area to relax and watch TV or socialize, kitchen is nice and open with tons of cabinet space and a long bar top, kitchen table is next to a warm fireplace for the option of cozy meals, slide open the wooden shutters to take advantage of all the natural light and the views, Master bedroom has a queen size bed and is a decent size room with its own master bath, guest bath offers dual sinks and a sunken tub for nice relaxing baths after a fun day of hiking, skiing, snowboarding or just being busy in the mountains. Huge loft (loft is considered the second bedroom) offers a bunk bed and pull out sleeper futon, there's a small TV with built in DVD player for kids to enjoy and keep busy or even adults for that matter, also free WIFI! The cabin is set up for 8 people max, ideally at least 2 of them being children, the cabin is 1208 square feet so 8 adults may be a tight squeeze. There is no air conditioning which is extremely common in Big Bear, the majority of cabins don't have A/C due to the cooler temperatures in the mountains so feel free to open the windows and enjoy the breeze. Come enjoy the Chalet and look forward to a relaxing time in the beautiful mountains! No pets allowed. No Smoking Allowed Please! The cabin is 1208 square feet, please keep that in mind when considering making a reservation. Read the remarks in the rates section below regarding our smoking policy. Thanks!!
This attractive property has a very nice common area, a nice kitchen, and is convenient to activities in Big Bear, CA. The surrounding country is very pretty and offers several recreational activities (lake activities, fishing, skiing, hiking, etc.). Unlike some other VRBO houses we've stayed at there were few "extras" here, so you'd have to bring all your own recreational equipment. Of course these aren't needed for folks who drive to the area (we flew into LA and then drove a rental car to Big Bear) and can toss their own gear into the car. And only the most basic of condiments are provided (salt and pepper), no sugar for example, hardly any spices or coffee and tea supplies. But none of this is promised, so this is just an observation, not a complaint. There was no hair dryer in the property and that was a minor concern for my wife; we've found that most hotels and VRBOs consider this standard equipment these days.
While the common areas were nice and comfortable, the beds were not good for us. The Master bedroom downstairs is very small-- we really had no place to open 2 suitcases, so one stayed in the living room. The bed was squishy and uncomfortable... not enough support for me or anyone else with back issues or concerns. My 20 year old, 6'3" son got the sleeping loft and found the bunks all too short for him, so used the futon. All futons are pretty hard compared to regular mattresses, so this was not very comfortable for him.
Both bathrooms are downstairs, one connected to the Master -- it was very small and provided no place to put toiletries. The shower was low (about chest level for me) and had very weak water flow, so it was hard to rinse off adequately.
The full bath off the hall was spacious, had two sinks and plenty of counter space for toilet kits and such. It had a huge sunken tub with a hand held shower. I have to say the tub was a very comfortable place to bathe or soak and the hand held shower made rinsing easy. All three of us mostly used this bath since it was easier to keep our toiletries in there.
The house was very clean with the exceptions of some cobwebs in higher locations, like the tops of the wooden shutters in the common area. While not a bad place to stay, we'd likely seek an alternate place if we were to return to Big Bear in the future.
This cabin is so great. We really had fun there. One suggestion: we arrived the cabin around 7-8PM and we spent some time to find the cabin. It will be nice if the cabin can turn on the light in the front door. For sure, this property will be our first choice in the future......
This cabin is a fantastic value and has everything you would need for a great trip to big bear. The owner is very helpful and will go out of his way to make your trip easy and enjoyable. The upstairs loft is perfect for kids.
This place is really lovely and sweet. Shame we only got one nite here. Will definitely come back!
This place is gorgeous! The perfect cabin for a family get-away! We couldn't be more satisfied. All the comforts of home, but nestled in the pines. We loved that everything in town is so close to the cabin- yet take a look outside, and it seems as though you're miles from civilization. We loved watching the squirrels scamper around outside. And the view of the night sky was awesome. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a full meal in comfort. And the sofa was everyone's favorite spot! We'll definitely be back!
