We are Brad & Cindy. After long careers in law enforcement in the lower mainland we have finally retired (sort of) and have moved to Oliver to enjoy a more laid back life. With only 3 traffic lights in downtown Oliver we rarely get caught in rush hour traffic anymore!
Cindy Pellegrin purchased this apartment in 2004
When we planned our future retirement we knew we wanted to re-locate from a bustling metropolitan area to a more peaceful and quiet rural setting. In 2004 we found this property and fell in love with it as soon as we saw it. We built the carriage house in 2005 and the 'Flaming Squirrel Ranch' was born. We were able to leave the lower mainland permanently in 2011 and moved into our brand new home beside the carriage house. Here we enjoy the slower pace, rural vistas and a dry temperate climate. Oh.....and the wine.....
The 9 acre property backs onto a hillside, and the top of the property offers spectacular sweeping views of the Okanagan Valley. Wildlife & birds are bountiful. Looking to the front of the property is an expansive, unobstructed view of Meyers Flats Provincial Park which is often dotted with free range cattle & deer. It is also fairly common to see coyotes & once in a while a black bear or two. We are happy to share our 'little piece of quiet'' with you!
We completely enjoyed our recent stay at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House. The accommodations are not only beautiful, but fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and the most comfy bed we've slept in. We look forward to our next visit to the Okanagan and the Flaming Squirrel Guest House. Thanks Cindy & Brad.
This property is as advertised! Brad and Cindy are very accommodating and friendly. Very well equipped kitchen. Cindy has gone above and beyond with thoughtful touches and extras including breakfast items for self catering and wine chilling in fridge upon our arrival.Very quiet and restful country setting, yet very convenient for wine touring,we will stay here again.
I completely enjoyed my stay at Flaming Squirrel. I arrived late one rainy night and Cindy even agreed to meet me on the road then checked me in personally.
The loft style dwelling has literally all the comforts of home and more; cooler bag, beach towels, fresh fruit, breakfast foods, a/c, cable, fluffy bed and available yet not intrusive hosts!
The quiet country setting was a restful change from touristy wine country.
I have recommended this place to family and friends already! Thanks Cindy&Brad
We just enjoyed a 3 day mini-vacation with Cindy & Brad at Flaming Squirrel Guest House. The accommodations were exactly as listed and are private, tasteful, very comfortable and well stocked with anything you may need while away from home. The hosts have paid attention to all the little details that make a difference... lovely breakfast items for self catering, wine chilling in fridge on arrival, every kitchen gadget imaginable, even binoculars and birdwatching book, etc etc. The perfect spot for relaxing in the evening after touring the region's wineries (the closest one, Fairview Cellars, is literally just down the road) plus you will be lulled to sleep by the symphony of frogs each night! Photo opportunities abound in the lovely landscape surrounding the Guest House. The town of Oliver is a short drive away for good grocery shopping and of course there are lots of roadside farm fruit and vegetable stands in season. And let's not forget the fabulous and authentic Mexican taco stand on the outskirts of the south side of town. Always busy, but well worth the wait. Several of the wineries have beautiful view restaurants with excellent chefs (lunch is recommended for those on a budget) and most have picnic tables on the grounds should you feel like bringing your own and purchasing a glass (or bottle!) to accompany your meal. Cindy & Brad know the region well and were very congenial hosts. Lots of good written information/brochures provided in the suite. A great get away spot for renewing the spirits. We hope to be back next year.
My husband and I really enjoyed our recent stay at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House!! The humming birds were bountiful and the accommodations very comfortable with all the amenities of home. It's great to be able to enjoy a quite cup of coffee on the deck in the morning before taking a trip to the local wineries. The owners, Brad and Cindy, made us feel like family and we look forward to a return trip in the fall for the Oliver Wine Festival.
My husband and I were up in Oliver for 4 days and The Flaming Squirrel Gust House was fabulous! Brand Spanking New and Very Private with a front deck to enjoy the rising sun and have your morning coffee...PLUS your very own patio with a Bar-B-Que. We've stayed at numerous places across Canada and the US and this one has the advantage of your own kitchen which cuts down considerably on dining out and associated costs! It is in the rural area yet just a 10 minit scenic drive to See Ya Later Winery and 5 minits to Dunham & Froese Wineries and Covert Farms and only 15 minits to the centre of town in Oliver for yet more wineries, fruit stands, movie theatre, shopping, or just to get supplies so you can head back to the Guest House and unwind. We are now juggling around our holidays so we can head back again in July or August. Need to make our reservations soon as once word circulates about the Flaming Squirrel it is going to be booked solid! The owners Brad and Cindy are very accommodating and super friendly!
Over 50 Wineries within 30 minutes to enjoy. Some offer patio lunches, some with gift shops and all sampling their locally made wines. Take a self guided walking tour at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory which is a short drive away. Bear, Madden and Sawmill Lakes are all within 10 km. Go fishing, sightseeing, look for painted turtles, and various bird species in the area. Numerous walking & hiking trails just steps away, and scenic view points. Cycle along the KVR trails. Numerous GEO Cache locations in the area. Alpaca farm in Willowbrook with handmade articles for sale. Wander through the old Fairview townsite, purchase local organic fruit and vegetables (in season), at Covert Farms. Enjoy weekly music concerts in the park, take a trail ride at Southern Pines Stables. Take in the Oliver flea market or visit the Farmers Market in Penticton or Osoyoos on the weekend! Numerous golf courses nearby- try a different one everyday if you like!
