Four accommodations, all different, all cosy

Castellare is an ancient building on the high hills that surround Florence (just 20km away). It is set on top of a private hill, invisible from the public street, and completely surrounded by nature. We offer just two accommodations this year, for we have opened an art etching laboratory too. Houses are even more warm and inspiring. The Stalla is our larger one, and is displayed on two floors. Upstairs two spacious bedrooms and a bathroom; downstairs a big open space with a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable living room area. The Stalla house is perfect for a family or a small group of friends. In restructuring it we tried to maintain its medieval flavour, so you will find an original stone floor and family pieces of furniture. And lots of art pieces, from well known artists we work with. Music, films and books are at your disposal for more inspiration. Outside the living room door there is a private garden with table and chairs for romantic outside dinner.

the Art possibility: Castellare Art is a new laboratory we have just opened in the Castellare location. We offer a unique service for the Artists, just out of Florence. They can come with loved ones in a holiday facility, in a magical and inspiring location, and at the same time, in the same spot, have maestro Lorenzo Bencini, art printer, realize their etchings in the most wonderful way. Individual seminars for professionals are also held, for a unique insight on the art of etching print.

The Capanna is a small independent house, of about 55 square meters. It looks like a little fairy tale home, completely surrounded by nature, and a favourite spot for the deer's. It is lovely to sit in the little garden and try to spot different kinds of bids, squirrels and other wildlife. This house has been restructured trying to maintain it's out-of-time flavour, so the walls, outside and inside, have been kept original, of stone. Just the separation walls inside are of course new and white. The Capanna house has one bedroom for two, a bathroom, and a living room with a little kitchen, just built in February 2009. There is a fireplace with armchairs and a sofa bed, and of course a dining area with 4 chairs. We like the idea of offering inspiration to those that come to visit us, so we try to provide our homes with lots of books, DVDs and music CD's. On the walls there are original etchings, gift of various artists that have been our guests.

The Castellare farmhouse is set in private woods between the tiny villages of Doccia and Fornello, fractions of Molino del Piano, Pontassieve county, in the Florence province. Although it's in a very private spot, it takes minutes to arrive to the closes restaurant and grocery store, and less than a half an hour to get in the centre of Florence. There's also a very convenient train station, in Sieci, 6 km away from Castellare. In a short drive you can get there, park your car safely and for free, and take a commuter train to the centre of Florence. It only takes 15 minutes, and trains are very frequent. There are two horse riding places within a ten minute drive, two golf course within a 25 minute drive, and tennis camps in Molino del Piano. All major cities of Tuscany are within an hour drive, and you could even go to the beach, swim in the sea and come back in a morning.

We spent the most wonderful week at Catina's lovely home.

The farmhouses are beautifully decorated, with little extras like cookbooks, and novels to make you feel at home. When we arrived, we were welcomed with a bunch of roses, bottle of wine and biscotti, which is typical of Catina's generosity.

Although the farmhouses were remote (you'll DEFINITELY need a car) Sieci train station is just 10 minute drive away, and the train into central Florence only takes 10 minutes. Though we only managed to tear ourselves away from the tranquility of Castellere to make 2 trips into Florence!

There was a GREAT deli called Bottega in the nearby town of Rosano. By far one of the highlights though was the vineyard tour at Castle Trebbio, and the five course (30 euro!) taster menu at the restaurant there. As you can tell - there's PLENTY to keep you busy.

I would recommend this to people looking for some peace and beauty in the Tuscan hills - it was a holiday I'll never forget. Thanks Catina! x
