Wild songbirds will sing you into sunny mornings as one of the most magnificent and perfect climates on the planet unfolds daily. The “BIG” island experience is all within a drive: the active volcano, international Mona Kea Observatory (4 wheel drive only), in town shopping, waterfalls, horseback riding, whale watching, manta ray dives, helicopter tours, worshiping at a local Spirit filled church... Close to home, the balcony ocean view beckons you to pristine snorkeling and kayaking where wild dolphins play; an easy 20 minutes down the hill. The neighborhood supermarket is stocked full of local organic produce and fresh fish caught that very morning. Make yourself at home in a kitchen outfitted for healthy and/or vegan meals. Reading a book or Kindle is a joy on the lanai. Finish the day by star gazing, going for a walk on McCoy's private road, relaxing with a big screen TV on cable/DVD or surfing the Internet with high-speed connectivity. The spa like setting is enhanced with a Jacuzzi tub and fold away massage table. Two quality queen size beds in separate bedrooms (and a sleeper sofa in the great room) are provided for a restoring and restful night's sleep. Laundry facilities are available downstairs and linen is changed once per week. This is local living at its best.

The view and the land are heavenly. The elevation and climate offers cool evenings and the ideal atmosphere for healthy behavior. An active lifestyle with plenty of organic fruits and veggies make this a place to refresh and feel better. Every time we come here our body and spirits just feel better!
This is indoor outdoor living at its best. This home offers the privacy and comfort of your own sanctuary. Nature surrounds you and from morning to evening you see the beauty Hawaii built its reputation on. All the activity offered on the Big Island makes this a place to return to year after year. This Island is alive and a true piece of Aloha.
the other guest reviews are all true. for me, the gentle and loving feeling here was the best part of our stay. after a month, i feel more stress-free than i have in years. makala!
We arrived late at night and just fell in bed. The next morning I could not believe my eyes. The view was incredible! 180' of gorgeous ocean! My favorite part of the house was the huge covered lanai. We spent hours there, drinking coffee, reading, resting and just looking at the view. Loved our gecko that was there to visit us all the time :)
The house was very nice. The living room furniture was comfortable and the tv was nice and big. Loved that the remote just happened to be exactly like mine. The entire front of the house is sliding glass doors so you could always see that view! We were surprised that there was no air conditioning. I just had not noticed that it wasn't mentioned in the ad. Turns out we never needed it or missed it, in fact since we were at a higher elevation it was always chilly in the morning, cool at night and comfortable all day.
The kitchen was nicely equipped. I did however totally miss my microwave!!!! This was my one and only complaint about the house. Also there is no oven, but that was not problem at all.....I didn't come to Hawaii on vacation to cook! The gas stovetop was nice and worked well.
The bedrooms were a little small but nice and had tons of storage and closet area. The beds were comfy and the linens were nice. Loved the bathroom. It was light and bright. It had a really great shower and two sinks with a big countertop area.
The grounds were beautiful. Tons of different flowers everywhere. Really gorgeous landscape. There were neighbors but you really couldn't see their houses at all, in fact we never actually saw or heard anyone. Several mornings there were turkeys in the yard, sometimes a lot of pretty pheasants and tons of birds. Bananas, papayas, mango trees, and tons of other plants. It was manicured but 'jungle like'. The location was perfect. You had that remote feel but in reality Captain Cook was less than a mile up the road. A nice grocery was nearby as well as quite a few restaurants.
We were there a month and now I am back home in Florida and I admit I am pretty bummed to be back here. I am already talking up our next trip back....I would love to stay at this home again.
The first thing I noticed when we drove down to the house (one must drive down the driveway) was the spectacular view of the southern Kona Coast. 180 degrees, unobstructed. We must have been able to see 20 or 30 miles down the coast. The place is clean and beautiful. The grounds are well taken care of. The gardener comes on Tuesday and Friday. (We stayed 2 weeks.)
The lanai was comfortable with glass and wood railing and a couple of couches. It was very pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the cool air in the evening. The living room had two large glass sliding doors, so there was always that incredible view of the coast. The house is up about 750 feet (or so) above the ocean, so the views are unobstructed.
There are neighbors on each side but the plantings/shrubbery keeps the place pretty private. The grounds are beautiful with green grass, tropical plants and fruit trees. At the bottom of the hill is Kealekakua Bay. This is apparently one of the best places on the island to snorkle, but you can't just rent a kayak and paddle across the bay to where the great snorkling is. One must purchase a "tour" by one of the local kayak guiding outfits in the area (there are many). We did not do so and I regret that. We did go to "Manini Beach" which was very nice (very south end of the Bay). Grass, lava, the ocean. It was an OK place to snorkle, not protected like the north end of the bay. One must be careful about coming back in. There is a fairly narrow channel to swim in and out of. I missed it on the way back in. (Glad the surf wasn't up.) But, if you want to sit next to the water on the grass and enjoy being next to the ocean, this is a great little beach park. (Parking may be at a premium, though.) This is located in a residential neighborhood, but the neighborhood is very small and local.
The house is about 30 minutes from "town" (= Kailua/Kona). Not a bad drive. We made it many times. There is a local market just up the hill (= ChoiceMart). The prices were not bad at the store (surprisingly), and the staff was very helpful.
We picked a ripe papaya from one of the trees on the ground and ate it (yum!). And the gardener gave us some local bananas. They were good and sweet.
It's very hard to find something I didn't like about this place. This was terrific place to stay and a nice base for travel to the rest of the island. There is also an on-island host who stopped by to make sure we were well taken care of. We were and we would definitely stay here again.
Iv traveled all over the world and this is one of the best places I ever seen!!
Bible First Mission Church is a right turn onto the Highway and immediately on the left side. Just further south on the right side is The Coffee Shack for great food.
