Enjoy an easy inexpensive weekend getaway in this rustic mountain cabin just an hour and a half from LA, halfway between the I-5 at the Grapevine and Santa Maria on the coast. Located on a cul-de-sac in Pine Mountain Club, a private community in the Los Padres National Forest. 35 minutes from Pyramid Lake and 45 minutes from Magic Mountain.
Available for rent any time. $135/night, 2 night minimum, 3 night minimum on holiday weekends. 3rd night free with rentals Monday through Thursday, except during holiday weeks. Prices may be slightly higher over the holidays.
My cabin is located on two lots, total 2/3 acre, so there's lots of open space outside. All knotty pine interior with lodge-like furnishings. Two large bedrooms (one with queen bed, one with full bed and a twin bed); 2 extra twin mattresses in walk-in closet for kids; portable crib and high chair; one bathroom with combination tub/shower; big stone fireplace; large deck overlooking wooded area with small creek. Large well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful stained glass window in living room with scene of local hills. Three TVs; DVD, VCR and laser disc players with over 200 movies, plus books, board games and puzzles. Dual-pane windows for comfort summer and winter. High speed wifi internet connection.
Rental includes access to beautiful mountain golf course; swimming pool in summer months; stable with trail rides; catch-and-release fishing in Fern Lake a 15 minute walk away; tennis courts; clubhouse with video game room, restaurant, free wifi and lounge with live music on weekends. Village business area has restaurants, market, hardware store, gift shops, internet cafe plus seasonal festivals and fairs. Hiking, sledding and cross country skiing on Mount Pinos (8800') 25 minutes away. And just across the street from the cabin is a lovely wooded area with pathways leading to the village and rustic tables under the trees - an easy woodsy walk without getting in the car, especially nice for little kids.
In the winter I provide sleds, and you are welcome to use the extra boots and gloves for adults and kids that I keep at the cabin.
This is a HOUSEKEEPING CABIN - the rates are low because guests must provide their own sheets, towels and firewood and must clean the cabin in readiness for the next guests before leaving. Cleaning supplies are provided; cleaning service and/or linens can be provided at an additional cost. There is no smoking in the cabin. Refundable $200 cleaning/security deposit required to hold reservation; deposit will be returned in full once the cabin has been checked and found clean and undamaged. Payment can be made via cashier's check, personal check (if in time to clear before rental date) or Paypal. If paying by Paypal (using your credit card or bank link) add 3% to cover Paypal fee.
Roads are very well maintained by Pine Mountain Club but weather can change quickly in the mountains so be prepared with 4-wheel drive or chains in winter. There is now Verizon cell phone service in PMC. The cabin phone is blocked for outgoing long distance, so I provide a phone card to make long distance calls if you need it (best to bring your own card, too, just in case).

I retired from Walt Disney Studios in 2007. Now I work part-time as a paralegal and I love to travel; I do home exchanges all over the world so I know what makes a home comfortable for a guest. I grew up in upstate NY, went to school in Ohio and lived for a time in Chicago, so I'm used to snowy winters. I love coming to the mountains for the change of seasons, hiking and x-country skiing.
Toni Devereaux purchased this cabin in 1985
My ex-husband and I bought this cabin in 1985. We wanted a retreat where he could golf and I could x-country ski and we could enjoy nature with our family. We had thought of looking in Big Bear, east of LA, but a friend told us about Pine Mountain Club which is so much closer and quieter. It's never crowded, even on holidays, and has a real small town feel, plus it's only 90 minutes from my home in Pasadena.
When I'm in my cabin I feel like I'm in another world. It's absolutely quiet on the cul-de-sac. You can't see other cabins from the back deck which looks out onto green space with birds, squirrels and the occasional deer. The interior is all knotty pine, even the ceilings, and there's a big stone fireplace. Starting right across from the cabin a neighbor has built a series of rock-lined paths through the woods, with little tables and seats made from tree stumps; it's just a 10 minute walk to the village through the 'enchanted forest.' I love to hike and x-country ski on Mt. Pinos, and enjoy the live music, free wifi, swimming and tennis at the clubhouse. For home entertainment, I have accumulated a library of over 200 movies on dvd, laser disc and tape. I enjoy sharing my cabin with guests and I use it myself as often as I can; a weekend at the cabin feels like a real vacation.
How wonderful to be here again!! We were rained in but it was still the place to be celebrating Craig's birthday. Thank you!
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. My husband and I brought our 5 year old and 8 month old and found every amenity to make our stay comfortable. Sledding was just a short drive away and having the market and playground nearby was so helpful. Pictures don't do justice to this beautiful area and charming vacation home. Can't wait to return!
I always looking forward to coming up to PMC no matter the time of year. The cabin is super! It is a wonderful place to come and unwind and to recharge, and to disconnect for awhile. The place is a home away from home, it is rustic and simple, and it truly feels like a home full of love and happiness. The surrounding area allows for great walks, and short drives for hiking and exploring. It is a place to come and enjoy.
My boyfriend and I came to Pine Mountain Club for my birthday. The cabin is amazing!! We stayed here 4 days, and only used our car once. We walked to the village everyday to get food and groceries. We sat on the deck every night to see the stars. The laser disc collection is so impressive! The Pine Mountain Clubhouse was fun getting drinks and dinner. I felt very safe and comfortable. Will definitely be back and not far from L.A.!!
Our family had a wonderful week taking hikes, using the clubhouse pool and kid's game room as well as the board games in the cabin. Very peaceful surroundings, perfect weather that allowed for a week removed from the hectic daily distractions. Cabin had a great deck, and gorgeous star gazing at night. Would love to return to see the place in the winter!
This was a great getaway for me and my dogs! The cabin was clean and cozy and such a great value. I loved watching the birds and squirrels at the feeders on the deck. So peaceful. The coolest thing was the wonderful trails across from the cabin that were built by one of the residents. The dogs and I loved walking along them every morning. I was so relaxed and rejuvenated after that weekend!
We really enjoyed our trip at the cabin. It is so cute and cozy! We loved the rustic vibe! The cabin had everything we needed and was well organized. I cooked breakfast in the kitchen and it was easy to find everything we needed. The electric heater warmed up the cabin quickly and once the cabin was warm it stayed comfortable. We saw lots of birds on the porch at the bird feeder, enjoyed watching movies at night and playing the board games at the cabin. The beds were comfortable (I am picky about beds). our 6 and 9 year old boys had a blast playing with the Lincoln Logs– building their own cabins.
It only took us about 1.5 to get there from Burbank, but we got lost on the way up–driving in the dark plus my navigator not paying attention to the road signs. The map that was provided was fantastic, just our error. Look for the big open dirt patch past the 2 town on the way up and turn right is all I have to say.
The people around town are so kind. A nice break from the hassles of the big city and the big city's rude people. We ate at two different restaurants. The food was fantastic at both places and very reasonable (Mexican and at the pub). The kids also enjoyed the recreation room and playing with the other kids from the area. My husband who golfs would have loved to use the golf course. He thought that it looked like a good challenging course. But the kids and I do not play golf so next time we will have to bring family or friends with us so he can go play! I think we will be back next year! We all had a great time.
Birdwatching - bird feeder with supplies - birds put on quite a show on the deck. Boating on Pyramid Lake 35 minutes away. Telescope for viewing the clear night sky away from city lights.
