The Perfect Cottage Retreat

  • 5 of 5
The renovated lakefront cottage was just what a longtime college friend and I had been searching for. We have been returning to SUNY Plattsburgh for alumni functions for years and, now, annually to honor a late mentor. Tired of Plattsburgh hotels, we vowed to rent a lakefront cottage. And boy, did we luck out! The owners have put great thought and detail into the renovation. Each room and space is thoughtfully planned and decorated. You'll want them to come plan your next renovation after spending time here! The enclosed porch allows for lazy conversations or book reading while gazing out on to Lake Champlain. The cottage was ideal for us and we thought we could manage perhaps one more adult. It is also suitable for a couple or a couple with one or two small children.

The water is just steps from the front of the house. It was a rainy few days but I did manage to kayak one morning (I brought my own but the house comes equipped with a kayak along with paddles & pfds') while my friend hiked on trails next to the nearby marina. It's a lovely, tranquil bay neighborhood. We can't wait to return.

Great Place for a getaway

  • 5 of 5
Spent 3 nights during Columbus Day weekend and had a fantastic time. House is extremely well maintained, having been recently renovated and redone (brand new kitchen, bathroom, amenities, etc). Furniture is brand new.
Location is fantastic as you basically have the Lake as your backyard, beautiful views in the morning during sunrise. Really excellent setting for kicking back and enjoying fresh air, beautiful views, while having all modern amenities inside the house. Perfect for families of 3-4.
Really close (5-10min drive) to the ferry to Vermont, which makes for a great day trip to Grand isle and Burlington. Would definitely return.

a refreshing getaway!

  • 5 of 5
We spent a long weekend with our 2 children at this lovely cottage and we enjoyed every moment! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for cooking, had excellent views of the lake, and all of the furniture was so stylish and comfortable! The added bonus of the canoe was also great fun. Excellent get away!

Perfect

Nothing to complain about here. Great location right off 87, great waterfront yard. Favorite part is the open living room/bar stool seating. Really made it easy for some guys on our softball team to hang out and have a few beverages.

Very Friendly owner. Would love to return again.

Perfect lakefront vacation

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful week at the cottage. It was a perfect base for hiking, canoeing, a day trip to Montreal, and just plain relaxing. It was very peaceful, but was close enough to stores and restaurants that we did not feel isolated. We really appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and gas bbq and ate most of our meals in. When we did not feel like cooking, it was an easy and pleasant walk to Dominic's at the marina. Thank you, Deb, for a great vacation!

Perfect sanctuary

  • 5 of 5
Our family of four (an adult and three children) adored this beautiful cottage. Obviously a lot of top notch construction, fun decorating and intuitive touches were used making this lakefront camp over to create a getaway for vacationers to spend time with each other and enjoy the location. A quirky combination of antiques and modern appliances, vintage furniture and modern pieces plus pops of color and just about everything one could need for a week on the lake made this a fun and comfortable stay. From the current magazines and summer beach read novels on the nightstand and fun games for the family to play to TV and Netflix and a stocked bathroom with fragrant soap and fluffy towels, the owner put a lot of thoughtful touches into the house for guests to enjoy. The screened-in porch with comfy chairs and footstools was the perfect spot to read a book and watch the kids toss pebbles in the lake; as were the Adirondack chairs at the shore ideal for soaking up the sun and contemplating blessings while looking at Vermont and the kids kayaking. The picnic table, BBQ, plentiful lawn seating and big yard made for enjoyable parties with family friends over to share the lake for a day.

I've rented a few different camps/cottages on Lake Champlain through VRBO to visit my hometown every summer, and while this one was slightly smaller and a bit pricier, it just may be my favorite!
