Overview

Nanaimo Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

Relax In The Yoga/Art/Dance Studio, Send The Kids Out To Jump On The Trampoline

Imagine waking up to the reflection of the sunrise on the ocean. Watch the eagles, heron, kingfishers, ducks even humming birds from this bird watchers paradise. Stay awhile and you are sure to see deer wandering down the beach, otters and seals playing in the ocean.

Enjoy this luxurious 2 bedroom suite designed and decorated to reflect the awesome nature of the surroundings.

The kitchen has beautiful granite countertops and stainless steel appliances include a gas range and of course a dishwasher.

There is also a gas BBQ on the deck and an outdoor wood stove available for summer crab feasts.

The master bedroom includes a queen sized bed, electric fireplace, spacious closet and sitting area with an amazing ocean view.

The second bedroom has two twin beds, with pull-out daybeds. Again, the vaulted ceilings and big windows frame a lovely water view.

The living room is comfortable with leather couches, a flatscreen TV, DVD player and another fireplace.

The yoga/art/dance studio has a separate entrance, mirrored walls, yoga and tumbling mats. It is a peaceful space to stretch, meditate, dance or draw. (please bring your own art supplies)

The hot tub is located at the far end of the house and has a 180 degree infinity ocean view. A lovely spot for either the sunrise or the sunset.

You'll find the trampoline past the fish pond, set in the forest. It is a favourite spot for kids, use at your own risk, but it does have a safety net.

Located just 10 minutes from the Departure Bay and SeaAir terminals, we are as little as a 1/2 hour from Vancouver. Perfect for a rejuvenating weekend away from the busy city.

About Camille Gignac

I traded in a banking career in busy Vancouver to live by the ocean and love life every day. After renovating and designing this property, we converted the west wing into a luxury ocean front suite.

Lucky for you! Come and be transformed by a week of pristine west coast beauty.

Camille Gignac purchased this chateau / country house in 2010

Why Camille Gignac chose Nanaimo

This is a unique south facing property with a virtually private beach. Honestly, we see more deer than people wandering the beach in any given week.

The sheltered cove creates a warm, calm bay perfect for swimming, kayaking or mooring your boat off shore.

It is a true island experience, without having to drive for hours, or take another ferry. Nanaimo is the second largest city on Vancouver Island and offers delightful entertainment, culinary and adventure options.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

We are located only 10 minute from the Departure Bay ferry and SeaAir terminals, so your travel time is minimized. Yet we are far enough from the public beach to give you a true sense of peace and nature.

For those sailors who need a weekend on land, what better place to moor and stay.

We didn't want to go home!

Camille was extremely accommodating when the rental i had reserved months earlier feel through at the last minute. It was a blessing in disguise because her home ended up being even better than I could have imagined for the retreat my girlfriends and I had planned together.

We enjoyed cooking in the great kitchen and taking in the views off the deck, every room had a wonderful view, it's designed very thoughtfully. We used the kayaks, the yoga studio, the outdoor fireplace and if course the hottub (usually twice a day!).

I only wish we could have stayed longer! Camille was a great host, giving us or space but very quick to respond whenever we had questions, and nanook (her dog) won all of our hearts! We would love to return again, it was the perfect getaway!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review Michelle. You and your friends were the first guests to really use the yoga room. The space is perfect for a retreat, giving guests options whether they feel like kayaking, reading in the hammock, meditating in the yoga room or just relaxing in the hot tub.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Cheers

We have stayed at the wonderfully beautiful guest house for 2 days because of held a birthday party for a lovely friend.
We had a very nice time of more than imagination.
We live in Nanaimo but It was seems like to have come to enjoy a vacation to somewhere other countries.
It was a good refresh. Of course we'll be back.

Beautifully Departure Bay Home

  • 5 of 5
The couple that own this new home is just as lovely as the decor! This home is cozy and spacious and is centrally located - within a 10 minute drive of anywhere in Nanaimo: grocery and mall outlet shopping, the Hospital(NRGH), the old city quarter(try the 'Real Food' restaurant for lunch or 'the Vault' coffeehouse), a small Casino, the BC Ferries(which take you to Vancouver - try the 'Dirty Apron' restaurant for lunch or a cooking course!)...and more!

Like we said - this home is close to everything except the water - because it is directly on the water! The water in this area of Departure Bay Nanaimo is protected from the waves of passing ferries by rock island formations that make this house perfect for kayaking. If you are lucky you may sea some starfish, an otter or some seals basking on the rocky islands!

Nearby, is Neck Point for a great little hike around the rocky beach edge. I was lucky enough to see some purple starfish between the rocks and a bald eagle feeding on an island across from the point.

This home is a great take off place for Vancouver(1h45m ferry + quick drive or bus ride to downtown), Victoria(2h drive), Tofino(1. a great drive with a few worthwhile stops on the way incl'g the Pacific Rim Talk Tree Walks - you just pull over, park & walk the trails on the side of the road; 2. Goats on a Roof is a cute village with a great little hidden restaurant for eats & treats, a specialty grocery, and more - look it up; 3. Thornton Hatchery and mini-waterfalls is a quiet local secret where bears often come to feed on salmon - you need to be calm & aware here at all times and come at your own risk - they do have a donation box which I urge you help out!) Tofino itself is a treasure of nature - Long Beach is a great roam, the Long Beach Lodge is a fab hotel with it's own beach(surprisingly not Long Beach, but an even better deal - a large cove, with spectacular dark sandy beach, the tumultuous Pacific Ocean waves, inccccredible sunsets!) The LBL hotel also has a great restaurant for breakfast and dinner! Spend 3 days in Tofino & tour the shops & harbour!

Back to the rental home - it also has a ton of board games, an xbox360, a fully loaded kitchen(pots, pans, fridge, gas range, microw, dishw), an outdoor BBQ, master bdrm and second bdrm with 2 beds. We loved waking up to the sunrise every morning - it was early enough that we didn't sleep in too much, but late enough that we could sleep in a bit ;) This place was absolutely perfect !

Owner's Response: Hi Derek
It was great having you and MC here for a few weeks. It gave you time to really explore the island and you seem to have found several of my favourite places. I'm glad you enjoyed the local cuisine and fresh eggs. We are hoping to see you the next time you're on the island.
Cheers

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

What an incredible place to stay.
Wish I could have stayed longer.
Adored our host Camille.
We plan on going again and staying for longer, we only had 4 nights there, we were so sad to leave.
Enjoyed the fact that there were kayaks and a standup paddle board available for our use.
There is nothing better than looking out your bedroom or living/kitchen window and seeing the ocean.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Spring home

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed in Camille's suite for about three months and couldn't have been happier with our temporary home. The view is amazing and can be seen from every room in the suite. We loved being right on the water and the free use of the kayaks was great fun. Camille and James were most accommodating whenever we had any issues or questions, and there weren't many even during a three month stay. The kitchen was fully equipped and stocked with high end cookware and appliances. The suite was very clean and truly felt like a home away from home, except with a much better view! We couldn't have been happier with our stay and can't recommend the suite highly enough. Thank you Camille and James! We truly enjoyed our time with you guys!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words Caroline, I am glad you found our place truly a home, comfort and beauty has always been our goal.
Wether it was kayaking over to Newcastle Island, running in Lyn Canyon Park, biking to work, reading in the hammock, or relaxing in the hot tub, it was obvious you loved the natural setting and amenities.
We hope to see you again,
Sincerely
Camille and James

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL STAY ON VANCOUVER ISLAND

  • 5 of 5
This is an absolutely awesome place to stay. We have three kids aged 9, 15 and 18 and all the kids had an amazing time crab fishing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, rowing, photography and also eating out in Nanaimo which is really near. The suite is beautiful and has everything you might need, including equipment for enjoying the water - the property is right on the shore. The view from the suite is completely breathtaking. You could rent it for a month and just sit and watch the view - and the otters, bald eagles, seals, herons and kingfishers coming by the suite! The owners, who live nearby, are really helpful and hospitable. We had a rental car and explored the area - good shopping, yard sales, eating out (especially Japanese), wildlife spotting and enjoying the scenery. Our family travel a lot worldwide and rent property at every place we stay and this has to be the best we have ever stayed at. It just has it all.

Owner's Response: Hi Justin,
it was a pleasure to see you and your family experience everything we had to offer, including the trampoline, the paddle board, the rowboat, the kayaks, the hot tub even building fires in the outside wood stove after all what is a Canadian summer vacation without s'mores.
Please thank Bailey for the beautiful pictures he took from the property, especially the birds. I have printed several to canvas, as I think they will be perfect wall art.
We would love to see you all, if Nanaimo is ever again your destination.
til then Cheers
Camille
