I lived in Southwest Harbor full-time for 25 years before moving to Tucson in 2002. Raised my two grown children there, who both graduated from Mt. Desert Island High School before going off to Wesleyan University and Reed College. They're both getting in the process of getting their Ph.Ds. I'm a very proud mama!
owner/ property manager purchased this house in 1993
We love our house, which has tons of character, and is a traditional Maine home with gorgeous wood floors and details. It's been referred to by renters as 'the house that feels like a hug.' It has history -- the original WWII black-out shades are in the sun porch. I'm a former history teacher and am attached. This summer my son and his fabulous fiance will be coming from Austin, Texas to get married on the island. Our house/Southwest Harbor will always be home.
This is a beautiful informal, lovingly decorated home. In a convenient spot in Southwest Harbor. Beautiful sun porch for morning coffee. Out the back, you'll find one of the most gorgeous harbors New England has to offer. So many places for biking and walking. Near to Quietside trails, etc and downtown Southwest Harbor. Perfect for me and my sons, who were 11 and 9 at the time of our visit. The owner is friendly and helpful. Kitchen is great for cooking. Lovely table for family meals. Porch for board games, etc. Wonderful!
You're in the middle of Acadia National Park, across the island from Bar Harbor. It's fun to see once or more for Reel Pizza movies or Cafe This Way breakfast. Southwest Harbor is the more viable year-round community, close to fabulous hiking, swimming and sailing. Ask questions and I'll be happy to answer!
