BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED HOUSE-SPECTACULAR VIEWS

San Miguel de Allende House Rental Photos and Description

House—2 Bedrooms (Sleeps 2-4), 2.5 Baths. Well-behaved children are welcome.

Enjoy a fabulous and relaxing vacation in this charming and tranquil home in San Miguel de Allende. Nestled in the Sierra Madres, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a wonder of cobblestone streets, winding alleys, extraordinary vistas, and international charm. Year-round the flawless climate attracts visitors from around the world who come here to enjoy the cultural richness of this “jewel of colonial Mexico.” Located in a quiet neighborhood close to the Historic Centro, our home is just a short walk to the Instituto Allende, shopping and dining along Zacateros, and the vibrant nightlife of El Jardin. Enjoy concerts, lectures, plays, readings, dance, and art openings held on a regular basis. The most popular restaurants, galleries, and cultural venues are all close by. For the more active there are gyms, tennis, golf, spas, and swimming. And just outside of town you can horseback ride across a magnificent canyon ranch with our friends Srs. Tomas and Felix Morin. Don’t miss the wonderful hot springs that dot the surrounding countryside; La Gruta is our favorite. Our lovely housekeeper Carmen will see to your comfort and we’ll direct you to all the “secret” finds that make our time in San Miguel so special.

One of the joys of our house is its wonderful indoor/outdoor accessibility. As you enter there is a small plant-filled patio adjacent to the very private guest suite. There you’ll find a gas fireplace for the winter months, a small dressing room with built in closets, and a large, beautifully tiled bathroom. From the patio, the outdoor staircase (abundant with fern) takes you to the open design living room, kitchen (with new appliances) and dining area. There is a powder room and French doors to a second small patio dominated by a beautiful mosaic mural by local artist Lucinda Johnson. The tiled kitchen faces a spacious and comfortable seating area that’s filled with sunlight all day long. A second stair takes you to the upper terrazzo and fountain adjacent to the master bedroom suite. From here you can view the city and the mountains beyond. The bedroom itself features large closets, contemporary design, gas fireplace, and a window seat for reading and gazing across to the Parroquia, which is spectacularly lit at night. The spacious tiled bath is a prize. From the terrazzo a small circular staircase leads to the rooftop concina. Here you’ll enjoy panoramic 360-degree views that are among the best in San Miguel. Enjoy the sunset from here while sipping a margarita. That’s what we call paradise!

Amenities: Free local phone service and unlimited international calling (to Canada and the US), Cable TV, Stereo, Microwave, Toaster, Coffee Maker and Coffee Bean Grinder, Iron and Ironing Board, Hairdryer, and other small appliances. The full kitchen is well stocked with excellent cookware, dishes, utensils, and Mexican hand blown glassware. Washer & Dryer, Linens, Towels and Bath Sheets insure your comfort. Maid service is provided three times a week, and Carmen is available for additional hours and services if you desire. Our home has everything; just bring yourself and your toothbrush. No smoking please.

A Wonderful Stay in a Very Special Place!

  • 5 of 5
I was part of a group of two couples who stayed at this beautiful home in San Miguel for a week (during Holy Week). It was the perfect size for the four of us with one bedroom on the first floor, the living room/dining room/kitchen on the second floor, the second bedroom on the third floor, and a lovely rooftop terrace above that (the pictures are very accurate). We spent several evenings on the rooftop terrace, sipping wine, engaging in long conversations, and taking in the absolutely gorgeous views. This house is truly beautifully designed and there's nothing we would have changed about it. We felt very much at home.

And it was only about a 10 minute walk to the town center. The walk to the center involves a steady incline but then of course the walk back to the house is all downhill (which is welcome after having a couple of margaritas in the center). We never took a cab, except for when we took day trips outside of town.

The owners were very hospitable in all of our correspondences and provided us with a nice packet of recommendations and maps. Carmen, the housekeeper, is also very kind and helpful. She was just finishing up when we arrived and gave us a tour of the house and answered some of our questions. Everything went smoothly and staying at this house was a pleasure. We're so grateful to have found this gem in the neighborhood of San Antonio. And as it was Holy Week, the town was especially crowded, so we were happy to be staying a bit off the beaten track in a quieter part of town.

A few places, restaurants, experiences that we especially enjoyed include: Mariscolandia (a really delicious and inexpensive, local seafood restaurant in the San Antonio neighborhood), Santos (a very hip, affordable, yummy seafood restaurant with live music closer to the center), la Fabrica (a fabric factory that has been converted into an art gallery), the Art Institute (which had a really cool artist market happening when we stopped by), the bibliotica/library (which has a beautiful courtyard and cafe), horseback riding with Tomas (a suggestion that the owners gave to us which turned out to be one of the biggest highlights of our trip), and the list goes on!

We couldn't have imagined a better, more magical experience in San Miguel and this house made for the perfect home during our stay!

Charming home with spectacular views

  • 4 of 5
We stayed in this delighful house for two weeks, everything was very easy, kitchen is fully equipped, beds are extremely comfortable and the house spacious. It is a good 15 minute walk, uphill, to the Jardine, and over a few streets of lumpy cobbles but we did get used to it and usually took a cab home at night. The views from the upper terrace are wonderful, particularly as the jacarandas were out. the house is on four levels so lots of stairs good exercise particularly after eating in some of San Miguel's wonderful restaurants. The neighbourhood is quiet and charming, mixed Mexican and North American and the local tienda just a few doors away is very handy for emergency supplies, such as milk, or cerveza. Carmen, the housekeeper, is lovely and when a fuse blew she called and got it fixed immediately although she doesn't speak any English My only small complaint that she didn't "clean" although the house is swept and kept clean and tidy, she had to be asked to clean the bathrooms, particularly the bathtubs and sinks. Once it was pointed out to her she was great. I would recommed this delightful house to anybody who wants to be away from the downtown noise but close enough to walk in, particularly anybody who loves to bbq on the wonderful terrace in the evening and enjoy the view.

What a find!

  • 5 of 5
Why be a stranger in a strange land when you can feel like a native-born Mexican in this wonderful San Miguel accommodation? We’ve stayed twice, once for a week and once for 10 days, during summer and Christmas week. Each visit brought new discoveries and a perfect home base from which to sample the limitless charms of SM. The house is done in perfect taste, with just the right local artistic touches. It is unpretentious yet commodious, and strikes the ideal balance between creature comfort and modern convenience. My wife and I became fixtures on the rooftop garden each evening, sipping cocktails, counting cathedral cupolas, and marveling at the different plays of light the setting sun offers up. From the house you can walk almost anywhere and see and do almost everything. The town map will be your constant companion. Right on your street are long time expatriates as well as Mexican families…always eager to recommend the untouristy dining find or special interest gallery. Culture vultures will have a field day here. Outdoor adventure types will as well. And if you’re partial to both, lucky you! You’ll find a whole list of the owners’ personal favorites left for you. Karen and Seth are also reachable by phone anytime (toll free!) to answer questions about the house or guide you to where the fun is. They’re really helpful that way. Carmen is a gem, too...the place is kept spotless. We’re planning another stay next year. Here’s hoping your time slot doesn’t conflict with ours!!

Perfect setting close to town center

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at Karen and Seth's rental in San Miguel during the Dia de los Muertos festivities. We asked quite a few questions beforehand and Karen called us as well as sent us information answering all of our questions and also emailing their favorite list of things to do and see. We tried several things on the list: horseback riding at Xolotar Ranch (amazing), a few select tasty restaurants and bars, authentic outdoor markets, in addition to our own list with Bici Burro bike tours (also amazing). We enjoyed all of it and had a fantastic trip. I would definitely recommend this rental. It is close to the town center and a fairly easy walk if you can manage cobblestones (they are everywhere), or a very quick cab ride. We did a lot of walking and felt completely comfortable (safe) walking home after an evening out. Their balcony views (they have a couple) were great especially at night with fireworks over the city. The housekeeper was very friendly and helpful as were passersby and neighboring restaurants and stores.

Great House in Great Neighborhood in Great City

  • 5 of 5
My two brothers and I shared the house for a week long brotherly reunion. Karen was very helpful in setting up the rental which was accurately represented in the VRBO listing. It was wonderful to have regular maid service and a fabulous rooftop view of San Miguel and the mountains. All the basic kitchen resources were available for cooking at home even though there are plenty of great restaurants nearby. You'll enjoy your stay there!

Couple from Texas

My wife and I stayed in this property for a week during Thanksgiving holiday. We loved the place as it met our expectations as described on the property promotional flyer. It was close to the Centro and several other attractions (10-15 minute walk, depending where you were heading). The house was spacious and had all the amenities that one needs. The view from the terrace is spectacular. When we arrived we had a difficulty getting the flow of hot water since the boiler pilot went out, but the owner and her local rent manager where on hand to consult and the issues was resolved very quickly. This attention and help were available through out the stay to deal with any question that we had, which made the stay worry free since all the "unknowns" could be resolved quickly. To top it all, the town was absolutely charming and weather was great. We certainly highly recommend this property.
