|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
RATES VARY based on high seasonJazz Fest etc.., there is a 3 night minimum and the calendar is current. This is a Two Story Cottage in the rear of a Historic double converted in 2012. Renters enjoy this separate cottage with brand new beds & sheets. The furniture is eclectic and the rooms are small and cozy. I just put a washer/dryer in kitchen so the picture is not reflective of the existing kitchen. There is no dishwasher and the fridge is a small unit, but most people come to eat out.
This home is one block from the St. Charles Avenue Street Car line and just a few steps to some of the best shopping, antiquing and dining in town. The Lafayette Cemetery is a short walk away as well as coffee shops, music and everything else legendary Magazine St has to offer.
This Historic neighborhood is so romantic. Take a stroll under the huge canopy of oak trees to grab a Jazz brunch at Commander's Palace or hop on a street car and get off at the French Quarter and meander into your own adventure.
My husband and I brought our 2 small children to New Orleans for the first weekend of Mardi Gras parades. This carriage house is a great location, just a block from the parade route, as we needed frequent bathroom visits, breaks from the activity, etc. As with most homes in the area, things could be updated a little, but we were very comfortable for our 3 night stay. Also, Lisa was readily available for assistance when we needed it.
We were in town for a convention. The hotels were very high priced. This little cottage was half the price of 2 hotel rooms. For the price savings, I would definitely stay here again. This building is in the back yard of a larger home. I'm wondering if at one time it was servants quarters or the cooking building. It was well maintained for an old building. Older buildings have quirks. This one had a few slanting floors. The stairs are a little narrow and steep. The bathrooms didn't have electrical outlets. Bring a small extension cord for your blow dryer. There were 3 window a/c units that helped to maintain everyone's unique comfort level. My biggest dislike was the window treatments. They consisted of bamboo type blinds which provided almost no privacy at night with the lights on. I remedied this by taking the extra sheets out of the closet and draping them over the blinds. I'm hoping that the owner replaces the window treatments soon. I did notice several other nearby buildings were lacking in privacy window treatments as well. This may be a New Orleans tradition. It seemed like a lot of the building had been recently renovated and hopefully that is next on her list. The owner was very helpful, friendly, and responsive. Our flight didn't leave until 6pm. She graciously allowed us to store our luggage there until time to go to the airport. The trolley stop was a short block away. You can take the St Charles trolley to Canal St. The Canal St trolley can take you to Harrah's or to the trolley that goes along the riverfront. A car was not needed from here. Taxi from the airport was $14 per person. An all day trolley ticket was $3. For football fans, the Superdome was close by too. The neighborhood felt safe to walk in. We truly enjoyed our stay here!
Four of us stayed here for a weekend, and enjoyed the place. It was clean, appliances were in good condition, and generally pretty comfortable. It is an older apartment, so there are a few things that could be updated (ie, guest bathroom shower knobs could work a bit better), but very minor inconveniences as we didnt spend much time in the apartment. The owner Lisa was very helpful and also was available by phone whenever we had a question, which we really appreciated. It's also in a pretty good location--just 2 blocks off St. Charles Ave (very close to several bars, restaurants, Walgreen's), 2 blocks from the closest street car station, and about 1.5 miles from Canal Street. Price was fair for what we got.
We truly enjoyed our stay in this place, and would do so again
First reaction was mixed, esp. having to park on the street..it
was a great location and we enjoyed the quiet after long
days in the quarter. I would stay there again. Beds were
Was there with my 15 yr old and my sister and brother-in-law for a few days of NOLA fun. We had a rental car and the parking was very easy at the house and was able to cover a lot of ground but the St Charles street car is two blocks away and fun and easy. The owner was great if we had any questions. The place was clean and plenty large for four of us.
Five of us stayed here for the Essence Festival, two couples upstairs and one on couch. We had a blast at the Festival! The home is close to the trolley and eateries and its easy to flag down a cab if the trolley gets too busy. If you are looking for a place for simple amenities (which all we needed was a place to shower, sleep and change), this is it. For the budget minded person, you will save on parking and other hotel fees if you stay here. If you stay downstairs and are concerned about privacy, it was easy to put something over the windows. Lisa was very helpful and accommodating and was very prompt in returning your deposit! Any questions you have, she is very responsive!!!! Unlike another owner on VRBO I'm having trouble returning my deposit. Stairs are very steep like she said....especially after a night of HURRICANES!!!! Thanks again Lisa!
