Kurt and I have lived in Traverse City almost all our lives. Sharing our beautiful properties with others so they make lifetime memories mean alot to us. We have been in the vacation rental business since 2006. We purchased this property in January 2014. While new to us, the cottage resort was built in the 1930's and has families that have been visiting for 35 yrs. Being new, we have no reviews on this property yet. Check out our other listing vrbo#106441 to see our 90 5-star reviews on High Lake Hideaway. Our other properties are listings 558608 and 463317.
Kurt or Tammy Hubschneider purchased this cottage in 2014
We fell in love with this property the first time we saw it. It is absolutely beautiful. Originally built in the 1930's, it has a charm all it's own. With the 350 ft. of Duck Lake frontage and the 500 ft. of peaceful Mason Creek bordering the edge of the property, it is truly unique.
This cottage resort reminds you of times gone by, yet has all of today's comforts. 350 ft. of private frontage, water trampoline, raft, 2 docks, boats, swimming pool, basketball court, horseshoes, playground and recreation room. Just a great place to get away from it all.

We were here for a week in September 2014 for a wedding celebration. Let me tell you, this place has charisma like no other! The cabins are cozy, firepits at each one. The main house was more than sufficient to hold events for the wedding party and the owners were more than accommodating! I can't wait to come back again year after year!
We enjoyed our stay at Brookside and would return without hesitation. We rented an efficiency cottage as we figured we'd be out and about during the day. The cabin was very clean (important factor for me to consider a return visit) and Kurt checked on us whenever he was on the property to make sure we were happy.
Very close to Traverse City.
Our family had a wonderful time at Brookside. The owners were very personable and helpful and the property was very nice. Our children enjoyed the kayaks, water trampoline, pool, hot tub and game room. There were many activities that helped to keep everyone happy. The beach area was not very large, but other than that the property was lovely. The cabins were clean, comfortable and very well stocked. We really enjoyed our stay!
We could not have been more pleased with your hospitality at Brookside. We did not know what to expect beyond what we had seen on your website. Since we had both been campers at Interlochen 50 long years ago, we knew something of the beauty of the area, but had no idea just how nice it would be to have a place away from the music camp itself. and only ten minutes down the road to a grocery and the camp, excellent situation.
The sunrise, the sunset, beautiful. That was not up to you, but the convenience of the washer and dryer made those logistics easy. And the cabin itself provided all the comforts of home, enough space in the fridge for our modest eating needs. The window AC was just enough to calm down the heat.
The other adult campers who stayed on the campus had quite a different experience, the generic hotel. Your cabin provided character in abundance and made our stay memorable.
We stayed at Brookside for the 2nd time early in August 2014. Kurt and Tammy as new owners have done an excellent job of making the property more eye-appealing and therefore more relaxing and comfortable. They are also wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. We had expected to have a fire pit like we had during our first stay in 2012 and were sad to see there wasn't one for our cottage. We called Kurt to ask if there was a "common" fire pit we could use so our grandson wouldn't be disappointed. Kurt explained that they had just gone for dinner but would come right back and bring us one of the portable fire pits they have.
Tammy and Kurt couldn't have been any more accommodating. Each time they were at the resort, they stopped for a quick visit. Kurt came to see us before departure to be sure things were up to our expectations and I assured him that everything was just wonderful.
The cottages are inviting and comfortable - just enough room for what we needed since we spent 90% of our time outdoors. Kurt and Tammy have provided the basics that are needed in the cottages. There was nothing extra that we wished we'd had.
The beach area, while not big, is adequate for lounging as well as wading into the water and going for a quick dip. The new water trampoline was a hit with all the guests for the full week we were there. Not a day went by that it wasn't used.
Overall, the resort has really shaped up and the owners are great. We would definitely consider going back.
The Brookside Cottage Resort was a perfect setting for our family reunion. Renting 7 seven cabins together gave us all the perfect balance of closeness and separation. There was always something to do whether it was swimming, fishing, jumping on the floating trampoline, water skiing, kayaking or a more relaxing activity like sunbathing by the lake on a raft, lying by the pool, or playing cards at the picnic table. Other than a trip to the grocery store, you really didn't need to leave unless you wanted to tour some of the local attractions. Duck Lake is really nice lake and a well kept secret. So is the Brookside Resort ~ so don't tell too many people : ) Tammy and Kurt have done an excellent job with the place.
The resort is as pretty as the on line pictures. Lots of good activities for kids. Kurt was there to greet us and was willing to help in any way he could. Some cabins appear to be in better condition than others. The ones we stayed in were very modest and some structural work needs to be done. I think the new owners are trying to upgrade them so that is good.
Brookside Cottage Resort is conveniently located just minutes away from all Northern Lower Michigan has to offer. Relax on the park like property or go see the sights. The area has received lots of attention for it's award winning wines, microbrewery and restaurants.
