Southwest Harbor House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

Nepenthe Den is a newly renovated and spacious Farmhouse with water and mountain views conveniently located in the heart of Southwest Harbor. I have thoughtfully tried to provide all the amenities you would have in your own home and want you to feel as comfortable as possible while enjoying your time here.

Nepenthe has a fully stocked kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances including a refrigerator, 5 top burner gas range with a convection oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, espresso machine, toaster, blender and crock-pot. Seating for 4 at the bar in the kitchen allows you to enjoy your company while cooking or just enjoying a casual meal or glass of wine. There is also a half bath off the kitchen and computer nook for privacy.

The dinning room has a beautiful floor to ceiling brick fireplace, hardwood floors, and a french door providing access to the very spacious back deck. The dinning room table seats 6 but another table can easily be added to accommodate 4 additional guests or if you prefer separate seating for the kids!

The spacious living room is heartwarming with another floor to ceiling pink granite fireplace, hardwood floors and french doors looking out to Norwood Cove and also providing access to the back deck. It is stocked with games, puzzles and a flat screen TV with DVD player. The perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring.

The guest bedrooms are provided with extra pillows and blankets but also fans for those hot summer nights we occasionally have!

The master bedroom is complete with a king size bed, ceiling fan, flat screen TV and a balcony overlooking the mountains, Norwood Cove and yes, every morning, a magnificent sunrise. The master bath has a 4’ corner shower and also an extra deep claw foot bathtub and a 3' granite vanity with plenty of storage.

Outside there is a back deck for relaxing, dining and entertaining and a front porch to observe our small town life as we know it.

Garage Storage is available upon request for outdoor equipment if needed and any other additional needs or requests can be addressed with the owner & property manager.

About Mariah Pronovost

in 1994 I moved to Mount Desert Island to work for the summer and like many others never left. I love to travel and spend as much time as possible enjoying what's in my own back yard here hiking, biking, kayaking and my new passion sailing. Nothing makes me happier than living in the town I consider my "hometown" and now sharing my love and enthusiasm for these things with my daughter and being able to raise her in such a magical place. I love sharing my home with guests that are here to experience the life I get to live every day and hope they feel the same.

Great home near Acadia

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed our stay at Nepenthe Den. Exactly as shown - lovely home with plenty of conveniences included! Mariah is awesome – helpful but not intrusive.

Plenty of room, kitchen was awesome – loved that big sink! Master bedroom - bed was nice & comfy. Easy access to Acadia and Bar Harbor from the house. So nice to come home to after a long day of hiking!

Awesome Experience Near Acadia

  • 5 of 5

Exactly as pictured- Beautiful, elegant, but you feel at home. Beds are very comfortable, ample blankets & comforters, plenty of towels. Several great cookbooks and a top notch kitchen to use. We stayed with four teen boys and they enjoyed it, too. We will definitely book here again, if we travel back to Maine.

Winter Fun on Mount Desert Island

  • 5 of 5

We found the property clean, had an incredible kitchen, close to all the necessities and a host who was truly interested in making our stay a pleasurable one. The kids enjoyed the privacy (As opposed to a hotel stay) and were thrilled with all the great reading material on local natural history. All of this within a 5 min drive to Echo Lake and 15 to Bar Harbour. With 2-3' of snow on the ground, we didn't get to enjoy the decks but they certainly looked inviting. We will make a point to return to this property in the future.

Terrific Place

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this house. It was clean and nice and well appointed. I was great for 3 couples. We walked to Southwest Harbor and enjoyed all of Acadia with this house as a perfect jumping off point.

Clean, quiet and spacious

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this spacious three bedroom house to anyone traveling with their family. It was exceptionally clean with plenty of room for our family of six to each have enough room to move around without being in each other's way. The outdoor deck had seating enough for all of us to relax and enjoy our morning coffee. I would definitely return in the future.

With Acadia National Park being the main attraction to the area there is an abundance of activities to keep one occupied almost endlessly. The miles of trails for hiking, carriage roads for biking, scenic drives and miles of shoreline to kayak or sail just can't be done in a week or even an entire summer. However if during your stay you do start to feel you've had your fill of the great outdoors, or are maybe just too sore to put one foot in front of the other, there are many other activities to choose from. World famous gardens such as the Azalea, Asticou and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, which is a private garden but can be viewed when scheduled ahead of time, are all worth seeing. There is even a small but very quaint garden, The Charlotte Rhoades Park and Butterfly Garden, just a minutes walk from Nepenthe. Museums, art galleries, fine dining, fun boutiques with work from local artists, wildlife excursions and of course some incredibly fabulous spas to choose from! What would a vacation be without treating yourself to an amazing massage or facial! For the sea fairing lover kayaking to one of the outer islands and enjoying your own private picnic or savoring a sunset sail with one of the local companies in town is a must. If a quiet night is NOT what you had in mind many of the restaurants and bars provide live music and dancing as well.

Venturing off Island, Mount Desert Island that is, to explore some equally beautiful areas such as Baxter State Park which can be done in a day trip or a very long day trip if you plan on hiking the highest peak in Maine Mt. Katahdin! The Eastern most point in the United States, Lubec, and crossing over into New Brunswick and visiting Campobello Island is also only a day trip away.

Although there is never a shortage of sights and activities spring through fall most people don't know the area can be enjoyed year round. Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and even snowmobiling is allowed on most of the paved park roads. Checking with park headquarters is advised ahead of time but with proper planning a sunset trip up Cadillac via snowmobile, or snowshoeing if you’re into that, can be pretty amazing. Whatever your agenda may be or the time of year you are able to visit this is definitely a place putting at the top of your list and making it happen.
