US Family on Vacation

Our family (me, my wife, 11 & 15 year old daughters) stayed in the Stone Bridge Cottage during our dream vacation to Ireland. It is a great location for visiting Westport and exploring Ireland's west coast. We climbed Croagh Patrick, and I played golf at Westport Golf Club (this was not a golf trip but it was a great deal including club rental. I also got a nice early tee-time, so the girls got to sleep in and I was back in time for lunch.)

We found the property clean and very well-maintained. It is difficult to find the first time due to there being so few street signs in Ireland. Once we made it there the first time, it was very easy to get back to. You will need to have your own towels, wash cloths, etc. I can't recall the name, but there is a nice store on the left just as you are leaving Westport going to the cottage. It has most anything you would need from groceries to clothing.

There are two beds and a sleeper sofa in Stone Bridge. Unless you have small children, I would think it would be a bit cramped with more than four staying there.

My favorite things about staying at Stone Bridge were the fact that the cottage was over 250 years old, and it was adjoined by working farms. I imagine staying there today is much like it was then (except now you have hot, running water). The weather was nice when we were there, and I loved leaving the windows open and listening to the sheep next door. We also go to watch the sheep dog round up the sheep and drive them to the next pasture.

The only negative I can remember is that the shower occasionally lost pressure. You just had to give it a couple of minutes, and it would come back.

The owners are very nice people and gave us good directions to places we wanted to visit. They also had a welcome basket for us when we arrived. Overall it was great. I hope I get to go back and stay there and see more of Ireland's west.

Lough View Cottage

We wanted a traditional Irish cottage that was representative of the movie Quiet Man. It was that and so much more. The cottage is a short drive to Wesport and other tourist spots on the Western side of Ireland. It was so quite, In the morning I sat at the picnic table and listened to sheep eat grass. At night, the smell of peat burning in the fireplace and a cup of tea completed a perfect day. The fully outfitted kitchen saved eating out. We bought traditional foods and even tried goose eggs. The owners were professional, polite and helpful. We would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Ireland.

A great few days away with the girls!

This was a lovely and very characteristic place to stay. My favourite memory of the cottage was the peat fire that we had lit (we did holiday in February!) and that wonderful, comforting smell and relaxed atmosphere that it created. As six girls holidaying together for the first time, our stay at the cottages was most comfortable. Colin and Lyn had been most thoughtful and everything that was needed for a self-catering break had been provided.
I would definately stay at the cottage again and hope to bring my husband and daughter out to Ireland next time to take in the spectacular views and to meet the friendly Irish neighbours.

Excellent accueil

I spent eight days in the cottages with eight other women. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, loved the garden and the complete peace and quiet. Most of the time we could only hear the birds singing. The cottages were well-equipped. Any small problems that we had, were dealt with straight away. The cottages are very cute and we were lucky enough to be able to have breakfast outside on a lot of the days that we were there.
There were nine of us in total and really the cottages are a bit small for nine adults. In the description of the cottages it says that both together sleep up to 11 people in total but the sofa-bed in the living room is really only for one person. We loved the area. I think Westport is the nicest town in Ireland. Colin recommended Silver Strand and trip through the country where "The Quiet Man" was filmed - it was an amazing day. We also thoroughly enjoyed our day out at Clare Island - even if the sea was a bit rough.
Matt Malloys is also a must for any visitor. Some of the girls went up Croagh Patrick - they said it wasn't as difficult as the guide books say but we live in the Bavarian Alps so they are used to mountains! All in all we had a really good time at the cottages.
