Your vacation cabin sits amid conifers and hardwoods, is nearly surrounded by woods and has lovely views. From the 2 large porches you may watch the deer graze and the occasional bear may stop by to see what you're up to. Watch swarms of humming birds enjoy nectar from the feeders just inches away from you on the porch. Hawks regularly nest nearby. You'll definitely want to bring your camera.
Because the cabin is a Beechwood Inn rental property (Member of Select Registry and Voted Best Inn in Georgia 2013) your will enjoy amenities far superior to most rental properties. You will enjoy high quality sleep systems, 600 thread count sheets, new furnishings and the owners' art collection, high-efficiency washer and dryer and a high-definition, large-screen television with more than 150 channels delivered via satellite. For a nice, quiet evening, enjoy some of the board games or jigsaw puzzles.
If hiking is what you're coming to the mountains for, we have a variety of books and maps that will show you how to find nearby water falls and hiking trails.
Betty’s Creek Cabin is just 2 miles to Dillard and the iconic Dillard House. It is 20 minutes to the Chattooga River for whitewater rafting and zip-lines. And best of all it is only 15 minutes to fine dining in Clayton, Georgia (offering 4 restaurants operated by 'Best Chefs America 2014!'. The large front porch features a picnic table and chairs and is perfect for the family picnic. Stop by nearby Andy's Trout Farm and catch dinner.
At the end of Betty's Creek road a marked trail leads west to join the scenic Appalachian Trail at Betty's Creek Gap (about 1 1/2 hour hike). There is an abundance of wild flowers in this Appalachian Rain-forest from early spring until November; flowering trees, flame azaleas, mountain laurel, rhododendron, the many varieties of ferns, the clear tumbling streams; all add delight to your visit in all seasons. If you plan on day hiking, don't forget a raincoat or parka.
Wild turkeys come to the creek daily to drink. Other wildlife using our property and the adjoining wilderness include: bear, white-tailed deer, raccoon, skunk, fox, squirrels, eagles, grouse and an array of songbirds.
When you come to Betty's Creek Log Cabin, be prepared to relax, rock in our high-backed porch rockers, smell the clean mountain air, or walk to Betty's Creek and sit on huge rocks beside the creek and let your cares drift away. Perhaps you'd enjoy fly-fishing for rainbow trout at nearby Andy's Trout Farm; it's just up the creek and you don't even need a license. (You need to try grilled fresh rainbow trout; a real mountain treat.) or spend the afternoon walking the marked and maintained mountain trails through the wilderness area or along the creek.
Be sure to bring a sweater or light jacket even in the summer, since the evening temperature often drops below 55 degrees. The valley and creek are bathed with a very cool evening breeze coming down from the 5000 foot high surrounding mountain peaks.
