Photos and Description of the Brac vacation cottage rental 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6 people

Illyria is a very old Dalmation fisherman's cottage that has been recently restored to a very high standard whilst retaining the authenticity of the property. Locally quarried Brac stone is used throughout to give the property a cool and serene feel. The property is set over 3 floors with 2 of the three bedrooms enjoying breathtaking and uninterrupted views across the Adriatic Sea. The property comes with 2 bathrooms both equipped with power showers. The property is air conditioned and satellite TV is available. The property has a large terrace with BBQ - you can fish from the terrace and then pop your catch right on your own fire. There is a mooring post and 4 metre pontoon (recently added) situated in front of the property making it suitable for those with a boat or small yacht. Illyria is within a short walk of the local amenities including the fine restaurants and pubs of Postira. Guests may use the gym and sauna/solarium facilities of a nearby hotel for a small charge.

We couldn't have asked for more

Julile & Lisa Wiltshire
Review Submitted: July 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Summary: Illyria is perfect, the Dalmatian coast is beautiful, the Adriatic is a pleasure to swim in and the people are both helpful and friendly. We have already recommended it to many of my friends and wouldn’t hesitate to return ourselves. We had a wonderful stay – thank you.

The cottage is lovely, with all our needs catered for - from the sandwich toaster and dishwasher in the kitchen, air conditioning in the bedrooms, the washing machine and finally the beach toys which even as 40 year olds we made full use of! We loved the terrace; the BBQ that we used to cook all our evening meals and for sunbathing during the days - so close to the sea and the fridge!

We spent our first morning trying out the 3 supermarkets in Postira, in the most part trying to locate fresh meat for the BBQ and fresh salad items; the supermarket at the top of the hill is the best for fresh fruit and veg and there is a lovely butchers on the harbour (towards Hotel Pastura).

We did the odd trip out and about (not many as we enjoyed the terrace so much):
•Zlanti Rat (Bol). As it claims to be one of Croatias famous beaches we thought we should take a swim here. The trip over the hills was worth it for the views looking out across the island and although a lovely beach we found it a little too busy and commercialised for us – sun beds and parasols available for hire line the beach. The fruit cocktail from one of the stalls on the beach was very refreshing – most welcome.
•Lovrecina beach/cove. A much nicer beach (in our opinion) than Zlanti Rat. There are no sun beds or parasols but as we got there early (not that it got very busy) we were able to get a spot with some shade. The sea here is shallow for quite a way out and an area is isolated off for swimmers which keeps the boats at a safe distance, although there are some pebbles the swimming area is mostly sand – it would be ideal for children.
•Toni’s Konoba (restaurant in Dol). I thought that Dol is to Brac what Bradford-on-Avon is to Wiltshire – quaint, I loved it there. We lunched a couple of times at Toni’s and very much enjoyed the hospitality of Toni, Pave and Toni Snr. The food was amazing, the chef came out for a chat and then took us off into the kitchen to see our fish cooking over the open fire – it all felt very ‘local’.

We loved the cottage, the views from the terrace, and in general we loved everything we saw on the Dalmatian coast. Amazing holiday, with thanks from Lisa & Julie.
Owner's Response: Many thanks Lisa and Julie, for taking the time to write such a glowing review!

Superb relaxing experience - May 2009

Steve and Theaa have done a superb job with this wonderful restoration. Waking up each morning and enjoying breakfast with the Adriatic at your doorstep is an experience everyone should enjoy. Brac is a lovely island with wonderful little coves and dramatic coastline. Postira is a lovely little town/village and we enjoyed watching the sunset with a glass of wine in hand.
All in all from young to old we had a fantastic time with excellent weather and would return without a moment's thought.

Thanks so much for a wonderful holiday

We loved our time in Postira, at this great little house. It was clean and the location spectacular - right on the Adriatic. The road outside was quiet - no noise to wake us. Pretty much ideal with a small shop 5 minutes walk down the road and a wine seller across the road!

We pretty much spent our time on the back terrace on the sunloungers, lazily swimming in the beautiful sea when we felt like it. This is not a holiday home for those who need lively nightlife or clubbing, but it was perfect for our family who enjoyed the time alone together in tranquil surroundings, swimming when we felt like it, eating when we felt like it and dining out when we felt like it. The locals didn't speak much English which suited us fine - we didn't go to Croatia to be in Little Britain. It was probably our best holiday ever.

Postira is a small town with only one (that we found) gelato vendor, a couple of restaurants and two food stores. But we found it perfect. We even got to test the Croatian medical system (passed with honours) when our son got tonsillitis on the last day. We found the Croatians reserved but friendly, and we enjoyed our day trip to Zlatni Bol enjoyable and worthwhile, even if the drive was hair-raising.

The house was clean, well equipped and the aircon worked well, cooling the two doubles and downstairs kitchen/lounge. The smallest room (two twins) had no aircon but our boys were so exhausted at the end of the day that they didn't notice. The owners kindly left some kit - rafts, snorkels, etc, but we recommend you bring your own snorkels and water-shoes as the rocks outside the terrace are covered in plants. We bought some plastic rafts for about 5 quid at the market as well. The kitchen was well equipped and we made excellent use of the George Foreman grill for sandwiches each lunchtime. The washing machine worked well, as did the dishwasher and our clothes dried in about 10 minutes in the hot Croatian sun.

I have such happy memories, thank you Theo and Steve, for the opportunity to enjoy the unspoilt and unassuming beauty of Croatia. It beats Italy hands down!
ps. we stopped at Plitvice on the way back to Zagreb - to be recommended.
Owner's Response: It's a joy to read that our guests have loved both the house and the location as much as we do, thank you so much.
