Kolkata (Calcutta) Rental Apartment, Close to Kaligat metro Station, 4 stops from Park Street. Marble floors, High Speed A/c, modern furnishing, f/fitted kitchens, ensuite bathrooms and maid service. There is a spacious living area with hand made teak & chenille sofa beds, drinks cabinet, 29' Sony Wega TV & 99 cable channels. Overlooking the main road is the Dining area with a large glass, wrought iron and brass dining table seating 8, a china cabinet with formal, everyday use and kids dining sets. The bedrooms are fully fitted - we have lockable safe drawers inside wardrobes, dressers, mirrors, and queen size divan beds. Modern kitchen with microwave, food processor, hob, extractor, washing machine. The bathrooms have hot and cold showers and one with bath, all with western toilets, blinds, fans and towel racks. There is a private balcony overlooking the temple. Peaceful and with 24 hour security.

Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta was made famous by Mother Theresa. In many ways it reflects the true India - a booming country still undermined by poverty but containing undeniable charm, beauty and character. The flat is in the south central area of city on the SP Mukerjee road - with Khalighat metro station 2 mins from the flat. DumDum metro (near airport) is 14 stops (30mins) away. Park Street, the central part of city is 4 stops away, where you can find Victoria Memorial, Multiplex cinemas, designer shops and local ethnic emporiums. The flat is conveniently located with shops, take aways, ATM, police station, main post office, temple, metro station just minutes away. Tollygunge is 2 stops away (10 minutes), where you can play golf, tennis and swim. Organise a trip to Puri Beach (where waves can get to 20 feet high), Sundaban tiger reserve, or experience the magnificent Himalayas.

The flat is our retirement home and those who visit us we consider our guests. We can advise you on what to do, where to go, and how to savour India the Indian way. Whether you decide to stay with us or not here some words of advice: Go prepared. Ensure you have somewhere to stay and arrangements to get it to your destination - Avoid peddlers at airport who know you have dollars or pounds and will do their utmost to get out of you. Do Not Drink tap water (be careful at hotels/restaurants) - drink only bottled mineral water or AquaGuard. Avoid road side Restaurants. Be aware of pickpockets, especially small children. Do not as a rule give money to beggars. Ignore them and they will leave you alone. Dont forget to check VISA Requirements; Malaria tablet course (this may continue even after you return). Injections. Essential items

"Hi Jav and Anami,
Just to let you know we're now back on home soil! We had a great time, did everything planned and more. Mr Basu was a terrific help and we are very grateful for his assistance particularly with the Jamshedpur trip - yes we did get to see the cricket - and England won which was a bonus! Everything with the apartment was fine. If you would like us to give you any other feedback we're quite happy to do so just need to get back to normal first and give the whole trip some thought.

As Good As I Hoped - and better than I expected

My brother and I spent our childhood in Calcutta as it was then called. At the beginning of this year we took my 3 daughters to visit. They are all in their early 20's. As I had not been there for many years I was concerned about what it would be like.

I need not have worried. The apartment that Jav rented to us was excellent and came with a maid who looked after food, cleaning and laundry. In addition, Jav introduced his brother in law who helped with other arrangements brilliantly. As a result we also visited places out of the city of which I had told stories to my girls stories but now they could see. With his help we also got to take the train down to Puri and have a few beautiful days by the sea as a contrast to the intensity of this great city.

Jav provided us with not only an apartment but also a successful vacation.

Good place to stay in Kolkata

The appartment is okay to stay. It's wide enough, with 3 big rooms, enough space to stay with a family with kids. Everything you need is there, so that's fine. When you just need a place to sleep, to sit down and relax a bit, to take a shower and to eat something...., it's okay. Most of the time we went to restaurants to eat or took food with us, in the area there are enough small take-outs. The appartment is situated on a very busy, big and noisy street, where the traffic go on for almost 24 hours, so that's something you have to get used to.

The place is good, when you want to experience Kolkata, you can go everywhere, with the taxi's, there are enough !
