However, if you prefer you can take gentle drives down country lanes and wend your way to visit local chateaux, such as Coussac Bonneval, still inhabited by the Marquis de Bonneval, or follow the route of ‘Richard the Lionheart’. Stop and sample food and wine in some of the prettiest villages in France such as Segur-le-Chateau, Montemart, St Robert, Collonges-la-Rouge and Turenne, or relax by one of the many swimming lakes in the area. A Treemendous Stay!

Bailey's folks Derby, uk
Review Submitted: November 14, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
What an absolute delight! Jenny and David most accommodating, friendly and humorous. The location is quiet, the cottage superb and the weather forecast stuck to the window each morning was a great help! The Limousin area reminded us of our home county of Derbyshire and the way of life is idyllic. Reminded us of how England used to be and - quite frankly - how it still should be!
Got to go again soon! And no the spelling in the title is not a mistake - its intentional! Jenny and David will explain when you arrive! Please go, you won't be disappointed!
Owner's Response: Our aim is create a home from home, in a 'get away from it all' location of rural France and we always try to accommodate any request that our guests ask of us!

Lovely holiday

topbiddy England
Review Submitted: October 19, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We have recently returned from Chabrenas, having stayed in the cottage for two weeks. We decided to go 'out of season' this year but the weather was glorious for us as was everything else. The cottage is just perfect for a couple. We were welcomed by Jenny who made us feel right at home and is a delightful host. David was en route back to France after a family visit and we met him a little later, but he too was warm and welcoming. They have got the balance just right these two. They are chatty and informative when you want to know anything, but fully respective of your privacy. It was so peaceful and quiet, like being on another planet especially at night, wonderfully dark with starlit skies. You couldn't not unwind here, just the setting for forgetting noise and traffic with only the gentle Limousin cows for company ifs thats what you want, and we did. The area is lovely, what I call the 'proper France' hills and valleys and a gentle way of life. The cottage has everything you need, even a dishwasher which we didn't use, English TV we hardly watched and a wood burning stove, which sadly we didn't have the need to sample. Jenny and David provide all your needs, books, games and really informative folders of what to do and where to go and of course they are there to ask and happily give you advice. Some charming villages around the area. As Limousin was a central area of France for the resistance during the war, there is evidence and history all around you. We visited Oradour-sur Glane, the martyr village and museum, which moved us
a lot. Limoge is not far away with some great shops. Everywhere, there are tiny villages that seem to have fallen asleep 100 years ago. I think this was a good time of year to visit, you really get a sense of the real France. We did find prices a little expensive, but then again a good bottle of wine was a lot cheaper. Good supermarkets around and everywhere there are little quaint shops where you can pick up a few local bargains.
I don't know if we will go back to this part of France any time soon, but if we do, I have Jenny & David's number. Perfect hosts,This is the place to stay. Book it you won't be disappointed.

The ultimate pieceful location

kk1 BANGOR UK
Review Submitted: May 1, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
This cottage has been done up with a lot of love and attention to every detail. The location is isolated, about a mile away from a v.quite village where there is only one restaurant (beside a beautiful lake).
The cottage has bags of space, & all the essential facilities including a wood burner and would be ideal even for a winter romantic getaway as there is a T.V & a very cosy living room. The couple are very friendly and have prepared a lot of information for theit guests about sightseeing (have made a couple of Portfolios full of info). There is a private garden where you can top up your tan and you can enjoy a barbecue if its not raining!
Remember this is Haute Vienne and summers are not as hot as in the Provence ,but there is plenty of lakes for fishing and the river Vezere is nearby if you feel adventourous to do Cayaking or swimming. So don't forget your mac! About 30min drive south there is the old stunning town of Uzerche where is a Cayaking centre and you 'll find restaurants, galleries & caffes as well.About an hour an a half north is the city of Limoges if you are interested to find out about pottery and its history. There is an ancien pottery oven which is at the site of Royal Limoge factory and the Natioanal museum of Porcelain which is very impressive is near the town hall. There is a lovely little museum as well, that explains the history of the french resistance during the 2nd world war(only in french).I would recomend this cottages for people that like to get away from the hustle & bustle of a city and people that like fishing or simply enjoy the countryside.

La Petite Chabrenas

muhandis Yorkshire, UK
Review Submitted: October 23, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Not often moved to write a review but after a second stay here felt that the owners deserved at least one on-line recommendation to go along with the unanimous praise written in the property's guest book. This is an absolutely delightful and well-equipped property in a quiet rural location, but close enough to the A20 (about 15 minutes drive away) to be able to get to Limoges to the north and Brive to the south (in about 45 minutes) with many excellent places to visit via the surrounding country roads. The single bedroom and en-suite are modrern, nicely decorated and exceptionally well maintained with an expression of the roof's wooden supporting structure. The open plan living area and kitchen give a rustic charm with beamed ceiling and wooden floors and the wood-burning stove gives a warm, cosy ambience. Superb local restaurant at Montgibaud (Le Tilleul de Sully - 10 minutes' drive away) and another at St Yrieix-la-Perche (Le Cheval Blanc - 30 minutes' drive away). Great market at Brive on a Saturday. Unlike many owners at the gites where we have stayed, Jenny and David are charming, helpful and unobtrusive... easy to relate to and exceptional hosts. 10/10 on all counts... we'll be back.
