A romantic rural, private detached Villa set in spacious grounds providing a panoramic view over the villa's and neighbouring olive groves. Around the Villa are a variety of fruit trees all of which are available to our guests for picking if ripe at the time of their visit. The Villa is situated just 5km away from the famous White City (Ostuni) and 13km from the beaches and craggy inlets of Puglia's Adriatic coast. From the villa the town of Caravigno can be seen nestling on the crown of a hill , in the evening Caravigno lights up and provides an interesting backdrop, when relaxing with your preferred tipple, on one of the Villa's terraces, (particularly the roof top terrace). On a clear day you can view the sea as a broad ribbon of blue on the horizon just past Caravigno. The Villa is situated within easy reach, by car, of many of Puglia's historic towns and tourist attractions. If golf is your sport, Puglia also has some interesting and challenging courses.
For your comfort air conditioning is installed in all three of the Villa's bedrooms.
In 2013 a large swimming pool 12m x 8m.was constructed and the landscaping completed in 2014,
The large Master Bedroom has an ensuite shower room; a king sized bed and space to relax on the feather sofa. Loads of space for your clothes with a three door wardrobe and a large set of drawers.
The double room next to the family bathroom has two single beds that can be made up into a large double. The room also has a wardrobe and a large set of drawers.
The smaller double room has two single beds which can be made up into a large double, and some storage for clothes; this room would suit children.
Horse Riding is available locally from 'Red Water' situated between Ostuni and Cisternino.
Also locally is the Zoo Safari and Theme Park at Fasano; signed from SS16 Ostuni to Fasano.
The villa was purchased whilst we were on honeymoon, we immediately saw its attraction and potential as a relaxing get away holiday location. It has taken some years to get the villa to its current standard and we will continue to improve its facilities.
Alexandra Bayliss purchased this villa in 2004
The property was very run down but we fell in love with it from the first moment we saw it.
The views from the villa are we believe some of the best within this area. The villa and its 2 hectares of land have great potential but at the moment we are happy just enjoying it and sharing that enjoyment with people who want to share our experience.
We have named the villa 'Villa Melograno' after the pomegrante trees that grow on the land and at the back of the vllla.
Previously, a farm the villa has some very rustic features. Year on year we have tried to improve on the property and it's surroundings, but we don't want to spoil the villas charm and tranquility.
In 2012 we installed air conditioning and in 2013 we had a swimming pool, sun deck/eating and barbecue area constructed.
Our clients have expressed their experiences within the villa as being tranquil, peaceful, relaxing; these are all of the sentiments we felt when we purchased the villa.
One American family that rented the villa described how they and their small children loved the wild life. The tree crickets can be noisy in the summer, but even they take a siesta. There is a wide range of butterflies and a moth that looks like a hummingbird. The geko's are just fun.
We do not use chemicals on the land and so at different times of the year there are many flowers, wild fennel and capers. (Understandably though in summer vegetation is kept to a minimum in case of fires.) Our olives are collected by our friends and oil is produced from them locally. A task we hope to enjoy soon. We hope at some point to be able to make our oil and prepared capers to sell to our clients who visit the villa.
Rating: 5 stars
This summer we were fortunate to stay in Villa Melograno.
We've had a terrific 3 week stay in the Villa situated in the rural area just outside Ostuni! It was such a nice experience to stay on a 2 ha (former) farm, it was really something very different and that added great value to our holiday- the peace and quietness of Villa Melograno.
The Villa boast magnicifent views, the best of the whole area. We have 2 small children and they also enjoyed it very much.
We found the Villa very well-equiped, clean and in good maintanance, one can see that the owners continuously strive to improve the Villa.
The description of the Villa was accurate, we've found everything as described.
Thank you Alexis for the detail information pack that you've provided prior to our holiday. This way we already had fun before the holiday started. Thanks also for the accurate route description with the photo's! Without that we were lost, but with your descriptions, we made no wrong turn!
Thanks also for the kind e-mail correspondation before the holiday.
We also used the pool for the 3 weeks of our stay. The pool was well kept and maintained by the local manager of the Villa (Saverio).
Thanks also to Saverio for all the kind help and nice little chats that we had. All his tips were very very good!
We were also fortunate to taste the first very sweet figs from the trees. Thanks Saverio!
We've also enjoyed Ostuni very much, what a delight to walk the centro storico (old town).
This part of Italy is so different from the other parts. We've never been to this part of Italy before so it was a very nice surprise!
One of our best stops was the Cantina " De Laurentis" (Ostuni). What a wonderful selection of wines and product of the region! The best olives and olive oils that we ever had!
Ostuni has very good restaurants for very reasonable prices, our best restaurant was Al Solito Posto (also a tip from Saverio).
We've enjoyed Cisternino, especially the nice playground under the trees with the magnificent view.
The best ice cream in the world comes from Alberobello, a little shop called: DELIZIA, in a small street just outside of the mainstream.
We enjoyed the beaches, all on a good driving distance from the Villa.
I can go on and on about the Villa and Ostuni, but my characters are shrinking.
I think I can sum it all up: We would like to return to Ostuni again in the future, and we will then choose Villa Melograno again!
Villa Melograno provided spacious, comfortable and homely accommodation for a family of four with two teenaged children. The hilltop location has the most stunning distant views over olive groves by day and distant town and village lights by night. The new swimming pool is of a very generous size and shares the fabulous views, though some of the areas surrounding it were still a bit of a work-in-progress during our stay. The bedrooms are well appointed with good clothes storage and invaluable air conditioning for comfortable nights; the master bedroom is very spacious. The kitchen is well-equipped but could perhaps benefit from a dishwasher. The sitting/dining room is also well-furnished and comfortable. Satellite TV was listed as available but we didn't try it. The terrace was a very pleasant place to sit out in the evening though we found it too hot to use during daylight hours in August (temperatures were into the mid-30s Celsius most days and the sun very strong). You'll definitely need a car here as there are no shops in walking distance, though there's a good selection in Ostuni, at about 10 minutes' drive. The nearest good beaches we found were near Torre Gauceto, about 25 minutes drive but very busy at this time of year.
The villa is well-placed for exploring the area, with several interesting and picturesque towns within an hour's drive, and more major cities such as Lecce within about an hour and a half. The limestone caves at Castellana Grotte are well worth a visit too.
Elderly or disabled visitors might struggle with the few steps up to the terrace for the front door and down into the master bedroom and the pool depth of about 1.4m might be an issue for small children. There's quite a tight left-turn in a narrow lane required to get out of the property, though a new access (under construction during our stay but already usable) will allow you to avoid it. We did't find any of these to be significant and had a lovely holiday here.
We were a group of two adults and four teenagers and very much enjoyed the rural charm of the house and the position of the lovely pool. With the pretty town of Ostuni just 15 minuites away and lots of other interesting places to visit, we were well occupied. If we return to the area, we`d stay here again.
We spent a good time in the villa.
It's well equipped and just as described.
We liked the big garden with fruit trees and all the books and DVD useful when it was too hot to be outside.
As we had a big car, the access was a bit difficult. Next time, we'll choose a small rental car.
The local manager was perfect. He helped us when needed and gave us some good tips.
We just put 4 stars because, there was no lights in the bedroom when we arrived (but Saverio came with extra lamps and then fixed everything the next monday) and there air-conditioning was leaking a lot in one on the bedroom.
We spent a really wonderful holiday. The location is easy to catch (by car) and with a superb view. Perfect pool (expecially for kids) and so many fruit trees. Saverio is so perfectly kind and available to care about everything. Hope to visit you soon again.
wonderful time in a wonderful time. And cheers to Saverio, a very nice and friendly man.
See you soon
