In summer and winter, our house is the starting point for wonderfully relaxing hikes in the near and around Altenau. Your car is parked right on the property.

World Heritage 'Upper Harz Water': The Upper Harz Water Management since August 2010 is one of the largest and most important pond and grave composite system in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Begun in the Middle Ages it was about more than 800 years, the decisive source of strength for the Upper Harz mining. It supplied the water power mainly to metal mining and operation of the pumps. Get today are 107 ponds, moats 310 km, 30 km underground watercourses, which even 65 ponds, 70 km and 20 km ditches watercourses still carry water in operation. In
Mines and the Cistercian Monastery-Museum Walk Ried visitors discover with this particular world heritage, a unit of culture and nature.
Harz National Park: Altenau is located right on the edge of the Harz National Park, one of the largest national parks in Germany. The harsh climate of the northern German low mountain range and a diverse geology shape the Harz mountains. In the deciduous and coniferous forests of wild streams, at the edge of moors and rugged granite rocks - everywhere is the 'Legendary mountain wilderness' an experience. Above it all sits the Brocken, the 'Magic Mountain of German'. The different levels offer a variety of living options for an interesting flora and fauna.
Since 01 January 2006 protects and develops a transnational National Park this valuable landscape. It was created from the former National Park 'high resin' in Saxony-Anhalt, which was already founded in 1990, and the National Park 'resin' in Lower Saxony, which existed since 1994. The merged 'Harz National Park' now has a total area of almost 25 000 hectares.

World Heritage 'Rammelsberg': silver, lead, copper and zinc from the Rammelsberg ore justified since the Middle Ages the wealth of kings and emperors in the city of Goslar. To date, the luster of this wealth can be seen in the old town of Goslar. The Imperial Palace, one of the largest Saalbauten of the middle ages, is imposing landmark of the city. 1992 was first raised an industrial monument on German soil, a UNESCO World Heritage with the ensemble 'Goslar ore mine Rammelsberg and Historic Town'.
Guides, surface and underground, in the Museum and Visitor Mine Rammelsberg and in the city of Goslar convey this unique over 1000 years of mining history.
