Bird Watching Holidays at Casa KaySha:
Menorca is one of the most impressive areas for bird watching in the entire Mediterranean. There are more than 25 species of birds of prey and more than 700 breeding pairs on the island. That's far more than any other Mediterranean system. The reasons are the wide variety of ecosystems concentrated in a small area, the well preserved countryside and the abundance of prey.
In addition the whole of Menorca has been declared as a 'Reserve of the Biosphere' for its surprising bird population and its prehistoric monuments, some of which date back 4000 years. The island is rich in bird and plant life making it an ideal location for bird watching or rambling along many of the coastal footpaths. Menorca has many rough tracks which are the only access to quiet and remote spots - ideal for exploration by foot or mountain bike and of course ideal for bird watching.
Walking Holidays at Casa Kaysha:
The delightful Island of Menorca could have been made for walking holidays. As a largely undiscovered island, it has retained a charm and beauty that many parts of mainland Spain have long since forgotten.
On Menorca there are literally hundreds of small hidden coves, many accessible only on foot, with backdrops normally consisting of lush green hills or lightly scented pine forests. Many visitors to the island describe the scenery as being similar to Cornwall or Devon in the summer. Near Casa KaySha is Cala Pregonda which is a peaceful bay backed by pine and tamarisk woods – a lovely and sheltered part of Menorca’s north coast. During the Mediterranean winter, the already beautiful island of Menorca, turns a lush green and is a haven for a multitude of flowers and a whole range of wildlife. At this time of year, the usually quiet beaches are totally deserted. However whilst the winter weather is far kinder than that of the UK, you may wish to bring some lightweight waterproofs.
Environmental considerations:
In 1993 UNESCO declared the island of Menorca a Biosphere Reserve. This declaration has been conferred on 393 places on the planet where there exists an important natural and cultural heritage and where people have accepted an economic development compatible with the conservation of nature. A reserve of biosphere is a commitment between man and his natural surroundings.
The declaration of Biosphere Reserve compels the people of Menorca to take measures to prevent their heritage changing or deteriorating. The responsibility does not just fall on the Menorcaians shoulders; whilst you are on holiday at “Casa KaySha” there are some areas in which you can help them to achieve their goals: save water and energy; respect the environment; take responsibility for your litter and waste and get to know their natural and cultural heritage. That way the fate of Ibiza will not fall on Menorca.
Golf:
Golf Son Parc is a championship quality course, ideal for beginners and experienced golfers alike. The course is both challenging and picturesque. It is located a few minutes walk from “Casa KaySha” and is itself just a few hundred metres from the award winning Son Parc beach on the north coast of Menorca . Around the course are wooded hills and a protected wet zone with a rich variety of bird life. In the distance are views of Monte Torro, Menorca’s highest point. Great care has been taken in developing the course sympathetically with the environment by leaving natural features such as rocks and planting with native flora. The course’s irrigation requirements are fully met from rainwater and from treated water – they do not take a single drop of fresh water (either from the mains or from wells) for the course. A very special feature of Golf Son Parc Menorca is a flock of peacocks that live just behind the third green. They are always happy to share their home with golf and we hope they add an extra touch of colour to your round. The course was originally 9 holes and was extended to 14 in 2003. Work on the last four holes to complete the 18 began in January 2005 and play on the full 18 hole course is planned to start in Spring 2006. All the extensions have been designed by Dave Thomas Golf Ltd. Dave is the ex Ryder Cup player and designer of many top courses worldwide, including The Belfry courses & San Roque. The course is open 365 days per year and visitors are welcome.
