We recently rented this property from the owner. He seemed very nice over email, and even offered a discount on the rate since it was just the 2 of us in the off-season. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. I've travelled the world and a number of countries in South America, and I will say this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. First, the pros - it is a 5 minute walk from the beach in a gated community. That's it. Nothing more. Now, the negatives...where to start. It was filthy - ants and cockroaches all over the place, both alive and dead. Dirty linens, bathrooms, and kitchen. Neighboring dogs that barked nonstop at all hours of the day and night. No appliances worked - the stereo is from 1960 and doesn't work. The TV is from 1980 and is barely color. There is a satellite system that gets 1 clear channel. No hot water in the shower. Zero privacy - the neighboring houses are 10 meters away, and there are no shades/curtains downstairs to protect privacy. The beds are foam from 20 years ago. Regarding the owner, upon arrival, we tried to get in touch with him because we were upset with the conditions. He ignored all our emails. After we told him we were not going to stay for all four days, he sent his housekeeper to the home to speak to us. She only speaks Portuguese, so no luck there. She then called him, and when we told him we were very unhappy and would not like to stay the whole time, he threatened to call the Brazil police and have us arrested immediately. I have never written a review on TripAdvisor or HomeAway, which should tell you something about how awful this experience was. I can't stress enough to search somewhere else for a unit so that your trip to Florianopolis isn't ruined like ours was.
