This cozy two bedroom plus loft log cabin is charming and private with all extras including hot tub, wood-burning fireplace and wrap-around porch.

This popular log cabin is an absolute charmer - just what you dream about when you want to experience the mountain life. The hand-hewn authentic logs, the hardwood heart of pine floors, the 30 ft. stacked stone wood-burning fireplace, exposed beams and many other extras are perfect for offering the mountain atmosphere. Each article in this cabin was chosen with care.

All of the furniture is unique and the best quality. The house is furnished with many mountain crafts, antiques, original paintings and eclectic knick knacks. On your visit you will spend a great deal of time just walking around looking at all the details. The two bedrooms each have a comfortable queen size bed and there is an additional day bed on the main level in case you have a little extra company or child. The two bathrooms are also charming with log mirrors and look out onto the mountain greenery with one window facing a bed of wild ferns. The living room has leather sofas and hand-made tables, custom drapes, and hardwood floors. The dining room seats six with a deer antler chandelier overhanging the table. The cabin also has a combination game table in the loft for more indoor fun!

The outside of the house is just as charming as the inside with a wrap-around porch with swings, and rockers, stick furniture and best of all the hot tub. The privacy of this location allows you to roam freely around the property and enjoy its beauty. This house is in the heart of historic Valle Crucis and only two miles from the historic Mast General Store. It is also centrally located to all tourist attractions and is within ten minutes of ski slopes, snow tubing, shopping, river access and Appalachian State University.

This Valle Crucis NC Log Cabin rental is another of our most popular vacation homes.

Hummingbird Hollow has convenient paved access all the way to the cabin.

Depending on the home, 4WD, chains or sometimes both may be required when visiting the mountains in winter. Access to this home may not be suitable for vehicles with rear wheel drive, limited ground clearance, or motorcycles even during summer months. We are happy to help you find the home with the access you are most comfortable with, any time of year!

About The Owner

I am Vice President of R&D Americas region for a large international fast moving consumer goods company. Although a native of Winston-Salem, NC, our family has been living as expatriates for the last 12 years based in Hong Kong, Tokyo Japan and now living in Montreal, Canada. Our family is pretty busy with one son recently graduated from University and two daughters still in high school. Unlike a lot of Americans these days, we have a very traditional style family where my wife takes care of our family at home, so she does not have to try to balance the demands of a public job and home. Her main passion is women's competitive league doubles tennis. We are the proud owners of a 2 year old Shetland Sheep Dog. I like outdoor activities like riding bicycles, river rafting, hiking and skiing and the good thing is that all of those things are right on the doorstep of our Valle Crucis cabin and a lot more. I don't fish too much but my Dad does. When he gets a chance, he takes advantage of the many trout streams and lakes all around the area. He has taken our daughters with him several times and they will always have a lot of good fish stories to share with their grandfather.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2008

Why The Owner chose Boone

We chose the cabin at Valle Crucis for several reasons. We think it has one of the very best locations in the Boone, Blowing Rock and Beach Mountain areas. The cabin offers the atmosphere of being private and secluded but with the fantastic convenience of actually being very close to the main highway. In less than a minute's drive, you have highway access to Boone, Sugar & Beech Mountains. Mast General Store is just 6-8 minutes down the road and the Blue Ridge Parkway also is very close. You can also get over to Grandfather Mountain in about 25-30 minutes as well. Given the new four lane highway 421 from Winston-Salem, the drive up to Valle Crucis is so easy for us and only 1.5 hours. In addition, the Valle Crucis cabin has a real wood burning rock fireplace. You can't beat the ambiance and experience of a real fire. Most cabins these days have gas log fireplaces.

What makes this cabin unique

We like to visit the mountains of NC a few times a year and the cabin experience is just the right 'get away' for us since we have lived in so many large cities. We like the clear air & the cool breezes are really refreshing in the summer. During the winter, our family has a very old tradition of skiing mainly in the Rockies but we started out at Appalachian Ski Mountain and Sugar & Beech Mountains in NC. All of those ski areas are only about 15 to 25 minutes from our Valle Crucis cabin and with the great artificial snow making technology in NC, we don't have to go all the way to the Rockies to continue our old Skiing tradition. Coming to the mountains really helps us to unwind.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a great long weekend here at Hummingbird Hollow! What a beautiful palace! It was great to be able to enjoy the jacuzzi and the fireplace! When it got chilly at night. We were lucky and had beautiful weather the whole weekend. We went zip-lining at Hawksnest, it was awesome! Highly recommended! We hope to be back here again within the next year. The Blue Ridge parkway was beautiful and only 15 minutes away. Thank you for letting us stay at your lovely cabin!

As you can see, we stayed here two times in the last 6 weeks. What a great cabin! Thanks to Donna Horbury. We really enjoyed the privacy, hot tub, fireplace, and views. On our first trip, we were lucky enough to have snow the entire time. We had so much fun, that we actually tried to stay in April, but it was booked. This cabin has really inspired us to buying a cabin in the area. We are coming again this weekend. Whoever stays here, will have a fabulous time at hummingbird hollow. excellent.

This house was fabulous. I have stayed a many of Blue Ridge Vacation Cabins homes and they are all lovely. This one is in the same vein as all the others-comfortable, clean, interesting, and guest-oriented. This is the perfect vacation cabin and we cannot wait to come back to visit this summer and sit on the deck and swing.

Our friends brought us to this place with them to spend the weekend away from home. We didn't know we were going to find our second home. All I can conjure up is that this place was too perfect and too good to be true. Thanks for offering such a place that you could come back to again and again.

We stayed at the cabin between December 26th and January 1st. It was a cold week beginning with snow on the 26th. The cabin was very nice. We loved the fireplace and the hot tub and used both quite abit. A previous writer stated that the internet pictures do not do the cabin justice. We have to agree with that. Although we managed well, it would be wise to have four wheel drive in the winter,as the driveway is steep. Overall it was an excellent choice for a vacation. We recommend the cabin to anybody who wishes to spend some time in the mountains.
