70 ACRE HISTORIC MOUNTAIN HOME - 11 MILE RESERVOIR

Cripple Creek House Rental Photos and Description

House has 3 bedrooms & 2 baths. Bunkhouse extra, sleeps 5+.

This is a lovely historic cabin, nestled in the woods at 9000 ft., with a rainbow trout stocked pond just a few feet away. The cabin, 100 years old, has been completely restored for beauty and comfort. This romantic log house has a fully equipped modern kitchen, a main floor master bedroom with a queen size bed and bath with a claw foot tub. The upstairs has two bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a double bed. The upstairs bathroom has a walk in shower. A portable crib and high chair are available in the cabin. The home has stained glass throughout and is filled with antique and rustic furniture. The woodburning fireplace was built from rocks in the area. The cabin sits on 70 acres with two additional ponds and is 'user friendly' for hiking.

The cabin is surrounded by a 4000 acre ranch with private roads that are excellent for mountain biking (bikes not provided). This vacation home is perfect for honeymoons, active families, or quiet get-aways. A full-size sit down Pacman game will keep all ages entertained. The wrap around porch is perfect for watching sunsets, wildlife and the many birds that frequent the area. The sky and the stars are incredible. The porch has a picnic table that seats 10.

Located near 11 Mile Reservoir which has excellent fishing. It is perfect for day trips to the small historic town of Guffey, Pikes Peak, the Royal Gorge in Canon City, Breckenridge Ski Resort, Fossil Beds National Monument and the Hornbeck Homestead near Florissant, the historic town of Cripple Creek for gambling , or Colorado Springs, the home of the Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy. Above Cripple Creek lies the largest active gold mine in the United States, and above the gold mine is the old mining town of Victor. An hours drive away is the Arkansas River for white water rafting. Or you might want to just relax, hike the 70 acres around the cabin, or fish for rainbow trout in the pond in front of the cabin.

The cabin has been in our family for many years and this is the eighth season we have opened it to the outside world. We hope if you decide to try it, you will derive the same joy and peace we have experienced from it.

Bunk house with loft, which sleeps four to six, close to the main cabin may be rented for an additional fee. This charming 'bunk house' is small but comfortable. It has electricity, electric toilet, satellite TV but no running water. It has an antique, mission style double bed on the first floor and a loft that sleeps 4-6 comfortably.

Family Getaway

This was my first time using VBRO and I'm so blessed to have found this place. Pat is wondeful to work - very kind, helpful and loves her property. We spent a week with our daughters here and had a wonderful and relaxing time! The view is beautiful and lots of hiking adventures for the kids and fun fishing time too! This home is a very clean and organized place to stay. During our stay we also visited 11 Mile Reservoir; Cripple Creek Narrow Gauge Railroad, Donkeys, Shelf Road; and Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, CO. We definitely plan to come back again! Thanks so much Pat!

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5
Great place, wonderful views, and a fantastic owner who real,y cares about the property. I have rented other places in the past and you can tell when an owner cares about their property or not. I am a restaurant owner and I was instantly impressed when I walked in and saw a very expensive Viking range and hood in the kitchen and satellite tv. The pond out front was small and we thought it would be a waste of time to fish it but we were wrong. We ended up fishing the pond more than Eleven Mile Reservoir because it was easier for us to sit around and chat. This is a place that has everything,we are coming back next year and now we know if we bring enough food then we will not even leave the house because everything we would want to do in that area can be done at the house. Thanks Pat and we will see you next year at the same time.

Julie

I was blessed to find this jewel-my first try at using a VRBO site-(or taking something other than a 'staycation'!) I could not have been any happier with the entire process--from my first contact with Pat to locking the cabin door behind me as I left.. My tears as I left this beautiful land and cabin were bittersweet. I had bonded with this place. Before I had even unpacked, I checked the rental calendar to see when I could once again, come home.

Spectacular Vacation

  • 5 of 5
My family and I have just had an absolutely wonderful week at this cabin. From the moment we drove into the property we felt like we were in heaven. This cabin is secluded and very peaceful. The cabin is beautiful and very comfortable. And the best thing about the cabin itself is that there is no phone service! If you just have to use that piece of technology you can receive service after a short drive. The scenery is amazing in any direction you want to look but sitting on the covered porch and looking out across the valley with the mountains in the background was completely breath-taking.

We loved all the wildlife that we saw. The deer, antelope, rabbits and squirrels made daily appearances and we also had the privilege to see coyotes, porcupine, and golden eagles. The birds working the feeders (bring bird seed) were a joy to watch all day long everyday. Then at night, to go sit outside and watch the stars. Just amazing!! This is one place you will definitely understand why the "Milky Way" received its name. We also saw numerous meteors which the kids loved.

While just being at the cabin is awesome, there is so much to do and see in close proximity. From the fossil beds to mountain summits we were awarded with everlasting memories. We rode a train in Leadville - that was so much fun. I would highly suggest taking one of the many scenic trains in the area. We spent one day in Colorado Springs where we saw The Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and made a visit to the Air Force Academy. All were amazing. These are just a few of the attractions there.

We had a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to get away and have a totally peaceful stay away from the craziness that so many of us deal with on a daily basis. Oh and I forgot to mention the weather. The highest temperature we saw all week was 76 and it was in the 40's every morning. Coming from an area that routinely sees triple digits this time of year was totally awesome.

Thanks for a wonderful week with my family!!!!

Owner's Response: We appreciate this great review from our guests! Our only regret was that they were unable to visit the Royal Gorge because of the fire which occurred in June. It is going to re-open next summer. But they certainly managed to enjoy themselves hanging around the cabin and visiting the other local attractions.
