ATTRACTIVE SELF-CATERING APARTMENT IN 18TH CENTURY BUILDING OPPOSITE THE SEA

Castellabate Apartment Rental Photos and Description

self-catering rental overlooking beach 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6

This attractive, self-catering spacious apartment, situated on the upper (2nd floor no lift) of a historic building once owned by nobility, is set on the waterfront of Santa Maria di Castellabate amongst the baronial towers and grand historic residential buildings dating back to the early 18th century. The building retains many original features; heavy entrance doors open onto an aula where the arched ceiling bears the heraldic family stem and original rough stone steps worn by time lead you up to the apartment. From here one has stunning views across the superb blue sea as far as the Amalfi coast and the Island of Capri with the sandy beach below. Ideally situated as the shops, cafes, restaurants and general amenities are just a short stroll away. The property comprises 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a small kitchen and a living/ dining room with superb sea views. There are 2 balconies with sea views. Local Information: The village of Santa Maria di Castellabate is situated on the beautiful and unspoilt Cilento Coastline which in turn lies in the Parco Nazionale del Cilento a natural parkland reserve which stretches along the coast and inland to the hill of Vallo di Diano. Offering a wonderful combination of wide sandy bays, rocky coves, verdant hillside and natural flora and fauna. The many sandy beaches in and around Santa Maria di Castellabate were recently awarded the 'bandiera blu' for their clean seas. The village of Santa Maria runs parallel to the coast and offers a variety of shops, bars and gelaterias, whilst the area boasts a wide selection of good restaurants offering genuine local cuisine.

Santa Maria di Castellabate: The position of the apartment means that it is not necessary to have a car since the central piazza and pedestrian village are just on short stroll away whilst the sea is on your doorstep. The neighbouring village of San Marco with its picturesque port can be reached in a short bus/ car drive or by walking along the beach from Santa Maria. The medieval village of Castellabate now under the patronage of the UNESCO can also be reached in a short bus/car drive and offers stunning views of the coast whilst one can explore its hidden alleyways and marvel at its historic architecture. It is still an inhabited medieval village which has conserved many of its original features and boasts such personalities of Napoleon Bonaparte and Leon Cavallo as past guests.

There are numerous restaurants in the area serving traditional dishes with home-grown produce and local wine.

There is a local Saturday market and various festivals.

Excursion Possibilities: The area offers a variety of choice for excursions to the better known tourist attractions- the historic sites of Pompeii and Paestum, the dramatic cliff-like Amalfi coast with the picturesque towns of Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Sorrento and the Island of Capri all easily accessible as day excursions. The caves of Pertosa and Castelcivita and Palinuro also offer a fascinating outing, not to mention the local area where stone farmhouses hidden amongst the olive groves and entire villages stand as relics to times gone by.

WONDERFUL LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We travelled to Santa Maria for my son's wedding and the apartment was a perfect base for us - both for its proximity to the wedding venue and the town centre. The apartment was spacious, well equipped, clean and comfortable and the views from the living room and main bedroom were just superb. We absolutely loved Santa Maria - it has a wonderful atmosphere and there are plenty of excellent restaurants and bars. Jacqueline was extremely helpful and she really stepped up to the mark when my son discovered on his journey back to the UK that he had left his passport in the apartment - but that's another story!

A FABULOUS FAMILY HOLIDAY

  • 5 of 5
I travelled with my sons, 11 and 17. We loved Santa Maria. The apartment overlooked a lovely beach. The apartment is spacious (we were only 3, so it was very spacious). Because it is an old building it is very cool inside, so excellent for this time of year (July). After Santa Maria we went on to Amalfi and then Rome and although at the time of being in Santa Maria we found it very good value (food, drink, restaurants, apartment), we appreciated how very good value it was after feeling very ripped off later in the holiday. Also, the quality of food in the restaurants was excellent and good value. I would definitely return to this apartment and to this town. We had a wonderful time.

GREAT PLACE

  • 5 of 5
This was a perfect location for us, the apartment was spacious and well presented, lovely views and walking distance to everywhere just across to the beach, the restaurant just below was very handy and we loved the pizzas. Plenty of information in the apartment and the owners on hand for information and were very helpful in organising taxis and booking restaurants for us. The village is charming, beaches very nice also some nice beach restaurants around the corner. If you like hiking nice walks along coast but get up early to avoid the heat.

A REAL DELIGHT

  • 5 of 5
We spent three wonderful weeks in Santa Maria in June-Jyly 2009 with my wife, our 2-year-old daughter and my retired parents. The apartment was a real delight - spacy, clean, well equipped, and the views over the Gulf of Salerno from the balconies are just stunning. Itssituation could not be better as the the apartment is on the top floor of an atmospheric old building in the historical centre of Santa Maria with both the beach, the shops and plenty of good restaurants and cosy bars just a step away. Jacqueline the owner who herself lives in the region gave us plenty of good advice and was very helpful whenever we needed any assistance. All of us had great time, everything was exactly as described (or even better), and we could warmly recommend the property for anyone looking for a beautiful place to spend a relaxing holiday in Southern Italy. We will come back! - Antti / Helsinki, Finland

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON EARTH

  • 5 of 5
When we arrived we where met by Jacqui the owner is was lovely. I creid because it was just prefect. We had our daughters 21, 19 16 with us and our small dog. People of Castellbate made us very welcome. Jacqui showed us where everthing was and where to get fresh bread etc. Jacqui also gave us lots of sight seeing advise and how to get by car to the places we wanted to see. My teenage daughters loved the night life and felt very safe while out and about. For me the best part was sitting first thing in the morning listening to the sea and to watch the sun set over Capri. This is the best holiday we have ever had.

Santa Maria di Castellabate is on the Cilento coast in the undiscovered Parco Nazionale del Cilento - a national parkland area - 50km south of Salerno and the Amalfi coast and was recently awarded the 'Bandiera Blu' Blue flag for clean seas. It is a combination of sandy bays, rocky coves, verdanat hills and inland mountains with many places of historical cultural and artistic interest in the surrounding areas. Castellabate the medieval hilltop village has been declared a national heritage site under the patronage of the UNESCO. Santa Maria offers an ideal location to enjoy nature and the beaches partake of an unspoiled Italian way of life and offer an ideal base from which to visit places of cultural, historic and archaeological interest- Pompei, Paestum, Velia, the Amalfi coast, Capri, Padula Charterhouse, Caserta Palace to mention but a few.
