Further details for this vacation villa rental in Corfu, Greece

Around Paleocastritsa: The villas are situated in a quiet olive grove above the road on a cliff edge, 5 mins walk from the beaches and small supermarkets. The Oddyseus Hotel (a small family taverna) just below us offers our guests free use of their swimming pool and other facilities (2 mins walk). They host a Greek dancing night every week. From the door of Villa Nola you can walk (45mins) on a very old Byzantium pathway up the mountain to the village of Lakones. The views are amazing over the blue Ionian sea to the Albanian mountains on a clear day. There are tavernas and the famous Bella Vista cafe and viewpoint. The scenes are breath taking. There are many small picturesque, interesting villages within a few kilometres drive where you can experience the Greek village life at first hand and visit their churches/museums. There is a bus that runs every 30 minutes from Paleocastritsa to Corfu town in the summer. Corfu town is 25 kms away. The Delfini taverna below Villa Nola is perfect for meals and swim.

Corfu Town : Kerkyra ( known as Corfu) The café at the Liston was built by the French in 18th century. The Palace of St. Michael and St. George to the left of the Liston, was built by the British and used as the official residence of the Governor. Prince Philip was born there.St. Spiridon's Church, home to the island's patron 'mummified' saint, is just behind the Liston. The church is impressive and worth visiting, but ensure you are suitably dressed. During the summer there are nightly musical performances of Sound & Light. (The second world war British hospital at the centre of the fort has now been turned into a music school.) The fort is worth a visit during the day. Facing the Liston Esplanade is the Old Fort which was built between the 6th & 19th centuries. The narrow streets radiating off from the Liston, house small shops, churches old mansions, museums or a secret garden. Shopping in all the small shops is a delight and eating at the small tavernas.Wireless Internet at the Villa.

Greek Way of Life, Flora and Fauna : Timing. Greeks do not expect quick service and often frown upon food that is too hot! Waiters will not rush you and will rarely deliver food in the same order as it was placed. Dishes sometimes arrive as and when they are ready - just sit back and relax and you will soon adjust to the Greek way of life! Corfu is small enough to be friendly and large enough to provide you with a never ending change of scenic beauty. And it is never difficult to get from one part of this island paradise to another. Drive around Corfu you can discover the magnificently scenic East coast to the equally impressive, more rugged and quieter West coast. The drives are picturesque, past quaint little villas and thousands of olive trees. The roads aren't crowded, except around the town centre for despite its centuries of history and its splendid beaches and sunlit bays, Corfu remains unspoilt. The olive groves at Villa Nola are 2,000 years old. NEW ADDITION WIRELESS AND CABLE INTERNET ACCESS AND SATELLITE TV/DVD.

Golf: 10 kms away, just 15 mins drive from from Villa Nola,Paleocastritsa is The Corfu Golf Club. This beautiful course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe. It was designed by the famous Swiss based architect, Donald Harradine and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week. The attractive looking clubhouse built of local stone is not only impressive outside, it is comfortable and luxurious inside. There is a bar, a lounge with pool table and games, and a bright, cheerful restaurant where appetizing meals are served at reasonable prices. There are locker rooms, shower and changing facilities. The professionals shop is well stocked with items of golf equipment and golf bags and golf clubs can be hired. The practice ground is particularly large and buckets of balls can be supplied to those wishing to indulge in serious practice. In front of the clubhouse there is a putting green. The professional staff are on hand at all times to give lessons and to make all visitors feel very welcome making sure they thoroughly enjoy their Corfu Golfing Holidays and all that the beautiful island has to offer.

Other Activities: Boats for rent. Large Aqua park 10 kms. 18 hole golf course 10 kms.

Loved it!

We had a fabulous stay at Villa Nola. The property is really private and yet close enough to the beach/restaurants etc to not feel isolated. The villa was a great size and clean and well maintained. The owner provided lots of information about the area ahead of time and went out of her way to ensure we had a good trip, including arranging for a taxi. We thought Corfu was beautiful and the people were helpful and friendly. Highly recommended
Owner's Response: Thank you, Dawn for such a lovely review! To our future guests, we welcome you and we know that you will have a wonderful time with us and want for nothing. Jimmy and Yvonne my caretakers go out of their way to keep the property clean and welcoming and the garden blooming even in the hot month of August! This winter I will be taking on further improvements, new flooring in the bedrooms and tiling in the kitchen plus new showers in the bathrooms in Villa Nola. I will be restocking the shelves with holiday reading books and some DVD's for your added entertainment. I will also be paying for another satellite programme for the TV's this year as the one I had let us down half way through the year ! All being well I am going to provide a shaded platform with an amazing sea view and/or a better shaded veranda at the front of Villa Nola as I have had a few comments about it being to warm in the sun on the front veranda to have breakfast in the morning. One can also go down the steps and breakfast under the trees and the gazebo in the garden, now that is something really good to do....but better shade for the top Villa Nola veranda will be provided for. Otherwise all is well and we were fully booked, only October is free now for Villa Stephanie this season. Book now and have a break! Winter with us is very quiet but we are still open with oil central heating and a wood burning stove. It does rain and can be chilly with the wind from the Albanian mountains in the winter (December, January and February) but if you are looking for a hideaway to write a book or thesis, study or paint, you are very welcome at an amazing price per week! We are also open for 2010 bookings, book early to find your favourite time of the year in this green, picturesque, very beautiful island of ours. Villa Nola and Villa Stephanie have one of the best locations in Paleocastritsa. We look forward to your bookings and will definately make sure that you enjoy your stay with us! If you want to stay and use both villas for the extended family you are most welcome and can book at a special price! I also have use of a third two bedroom villa the other side of the garden if you are more in number! What ever you do and which ever villa you book the property lies secluded and quiet yet as Dawn says within easy reach of all you need. I look forward to hearing from you very soon! You are most welcome!

One of our Best Holidays

HeJo Glasgow, Scotland, UK
Review Submitted: October 23, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Your helpfulness - emails, phonecalls - were so welcome and reassuring! We've rented before and have found most owners very helpful - some more so than others - and you come way up there at the top!

Villa Nola was wonderful! We very much appreciated the up-grade but would have very much enjoyed the studio too. Breakfasting on the terrace as the sun came up was wonderful. We loved the piece and tranquility of the villa and the feeling of being in "real" Corfu. Will look forward to new terrace if we're ever lucky enough to come back!

We explored the local area largely on foot and found it quite delightful. The car took us to more lovely spots in many different parts of Corfu - each one as charming as the last, if in different ways. We walked quite a lot too.

We appreciated the additions you made specially for us - the iron & the beach towels. The sea was very cold but we still enjoyed swimming in various different beaches.

Steph & Simon were very welcoming & helpful. We also enjoyed meeting & chatting to Yvonne, Jimmy & Maria.

Thank you for contacting George about his late taxi. We were eventually picked up by his wife in a pick-up, taken half way to Corfu, where we met up with george who got us to the airport with 15 mins to spare! Apparently his previous passengers had forgotten their passports & had to return to palaokastretsa!. But we'll know in future to leave fairly late - but maybe not just so late!!

Thanks again for one of our best holidays. We feel well set up to face whatever the winter has to throw at us!

Great Holiday at the Villa Nola

Digby6 Spetses, Greece
Review Submitted: October 6, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Just come back from a wonderful two weeks at the Villa Nola, Corfu. Although the property was described as a studio, it was so very much more than that, well appointed and with every amenity, a little home from home. The studios are very comfortable and we enjoyed many happy hours sitting out on our patio. This charming property has the feel of being off the beaten track as its vehicular access is up a winding mountain road, however, there is a two minute pedestrian access which takes you straight into the heart of Paleokastritsa with all its bars, restaurants and beaches.  The garden is lovely and peaceful with its mountain views and the owner has provided a barbeque area and several seating areas.  A truly relaxing place for a holiday and great value for money. The owner is very thoughtful in providing lots of information and the villas and gardens are well looked after by a husband and wife couple. Can definitely recommend the Villa Nola to anyone looking for accommodation in the Paleokastritsa area.

Perfect position for a quieter holiday

Family bofco London UK
Review Submitted: August 5, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Excellent holiday. No drama or gripes, accommodation great....simple but clean and well-serviced by the friendly local husband and wife team. Old olive grove garden very nice, but even being improved upon this year to give more facilities for both the two studios and the separate main villa.

We came in July to temperatures of 30-34C, but the position of the studios and terraced garden was perfect for catching the breezes and the olive trees gave plenty of shade. We only used the A/C on on couple of evenings. The pool at the Odysseus Hotel was just two minutes away and great for a reviving dip in the heat of the day.

Set back from the main road and the more popular beaches, it was very peaceful and quiet, but at the same time everything that Paleocatritsa has to offer was within 10-15 minutes walk. We and our 3 sons (10, 14 and 15) found plenty to do around the various beaches, we also hired our own boat to explore the coastline further.

The monastery is well worth a visit and the walk from the rear of Villa Nola up the old donkey track up to the village of Lakonis gives you a real taste of old Greece, plus the most spectacular views of the Paleocatritsa area.

We did not bother to hire a car as we were happy to stay put.

Jane was very helpful with lots of information prior to our arrival and arranged our transfers to and from the airport.

All in all very relaxing and trouble-free. Recommended!
Owner's Response: So pleased that a lovely family of five had such a great holiday and without the extra expense of a car. You will find plenty to occupy your time in Paleocastritsa and the biggest luxury is that the Villa and Studios are tucked away in peace and harmony in the garden in sun or shade, still with the views and a walk away from all the beaches, tavernas and minimarkets. Next year there will another gazebo and another large built BBQ also decking for the top Villa to dine with an amazing sea view. I am turning to Solar for water and Central Heating, and to keep up with the news TV/DVD will be installed, if really required, on such a beautiful, peaceful island! Comments are welcome! The top Villa will be re-roofed and the Studios redecorated, the Villa was done this year. I always make sure that my property is well looked after and clean. It is simple but comfortable and that is what gives the Villa and Studios their charm. There are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms with three extra beds if required , fully equiped kitchen and lounge/dining , accomodating 2 to 6 people in the top Villa. The studios below each have a bedroom, Studio 1 with a double bed and Studio 2 with singles plus an extra bed if required, both have well equiped kitchenettes and bathrooms with showers. There will be the two BBQ's in separate parts of the garden and on different terraces under the olive, lemon and orange trees next year. I find that sending information ahead has proved invaluable to my guests and I have plenty on site as well. Book early for next year and catch an earlybird price! You are more than welcome!

Wonderful!

Review Submitted: July 16, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We had wonderful two weeks in 2008, June-July. Jane, the owner, was very helpful and efficient as far as business matters are concerned (we had a lot to solve about the visas to enter Greece). The property is secluded indeed, and if you are lucky (we were), there will be no people in the villa above, so the garden will be at your disposal. I would not recommend this place to anyone who minds walking up and down because you will have to walk down the steps to the sea. It is not by the sea or on the seashore, but the walks help to keep physically fit, especially when combined with the mountain walks. You should try the walk to Lakones by the old donkey path (not an easy walk though, but the reward worth it). My family - my wife and 3-year old son - were there for two weeks, and we loved the place. We usually never go to the same place twice as we try to see as many countries as we can, but this place may be an exception. Many say that the sea is cold. It IS colder than in many other places, but swimming is very pleasant, much more pleasant than in other places in Corfu and in Greece we managed to visit. Water is crystal clear. If you go there, you should try Delphina taverna down from the villa - the best taverna in Paleokastritsa. And the prices there are reasonable and not very expensive. The villa and Paleokastritsa is not a place for everyone, but romantic couples and families with kids and photographers and other sightseers will find it unforgettable. By the way, my son enjoyed the sea in Paleo so much that he learnt to swim there.

Regards,
Mikhail
Owner's Response: Yet one more very satisfied family guest! It is true that one has to walk (only between 2 to 6 minutes) to the beaches and it is a little up and down, otherwise we would not have the "secluded but near" type of feeling that the property has. You can also drive a car or moped or bike if you had the transport. Villa Nola has proved very popular as always and I will once again improve on the facilities next year. A new roof on the top villa and satellite TV in each studio and in the villa. I plan to become as "Green"as possible with Solar heating panels for the hot water and central heating etc. All great progress but still remaining the little jewel of a hideaway it is. The decking should be ready next year too in front of the top Villa overlooking the harbour, bays of Paleocastritsa and the mountains for dining. I can't wait! I have just been informed that AngeloCastro is closed for repairs this year but the walk there is still unforgettable. Bella Vista is just so lovely and you can see Villa Nola from there nestled in the trees on the cliff edge. I will be renting this winter also with the central heating and wood burning stove and the website is already booking up for next year. This year has been extra hot in Corfu but the A/C and fans have coped together with the sea breezes that we have. There is another gazebo planned for in front of the studios with a second BBQ also. More books on Corfu will go into the bookcases and we will have internet as always. Jimmy, Yvonne and Maria will be your hosts as ever and Jimmy will be making sure that the garden is well tended and extra special for next year all through the winter as well. More information on boat and car hire, golfing and horseriding. The Aqua park and all the mapped out Walks in Corfu. Bicycling and Diving are also in Paleocastritsa along with the boat trips around the caves, the paragliding, canoeing, sailing, caique BBQ's and pedalos even the glass bottomed boat! What more could you wish for on holiday. You even have the choice to relax in the garden away from it all under the olive trees with your favourite book on the sun loungers or that early evening ouzo at the monestary waiting for the sun to go down! Bliss! Downside? Well, if you not a friend of the mosquitos then keep your doors closed, we have the plug in tablets but I plan to put some anti mosquito lights outside to help also. Don't wear white at night if you don't want to attract them and use your cream. Wecome to Villa Nola!
