Overview

Montreal Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 4-5 in 2 bedrooms and mezzanine, with 2 bathrooms

Cottage in Gers, Midi-Pyrenees, France: Peyrouat is an old farm hamlet, now divided into two properties, consisting of several traditional stone buildings. The pretty, spacious, 18th century cottage is the oldest building on the site and has been recently restored to include all modern comforts whilst maintaining many original features such as stonework, beams and fireplace. The grounds are very extensive and include many old trees, open land for playing games and, of course, the 11x 5 m. swimming pool. (shared with the owner and her occasional chambres d'hotes guests) There is a charming private garden, a sunbathing terrace and a further covered terrace with barbecue for dining, all south and west facing so extremely sunny right into the evening. The surrounding countryside is very peaceful, planted with sunflowers, vines and wheat. Medieval bastide villages abound: the nearest, Montreal, is 6 kilometres away.

Food and Wine: We are surrounded by Armagnac producers and excellent Cotes de Gascogne, also nearby St.Mont, and Madiran. Confit and magret of duck and goose, foie gras, and prunes from Agen are found in the many local markets and restaurants. Great spot for gourmets. Full guides to good degustation spots available!

Tourist Attractions: Local mediaeval bastide villages such as Laressingle and moated Fources. Historical monuments such as Roman Seviac or the Abbaye of Flaran. Day trips to the pine forests and Atlantic surfing beaches of Les Landes; to Biarritz, the Basque region or the Pyrenees. Toulouse and Bordeaux are also within easy reach.

Activities: Within 10 minutes there is a golf course at Guinlet (18 holes). Also tennis, horse-riding,boating on canal and river at nearby Condom, and several pleasure lakes closeby. Peyrouat lies on the Camino Real, the ancient pilgrim route to Compostella. Many modern pilgrims still walk this route today.

A wonderful return visit!!!!

  • 5 of 5
We returned to Peyrouat with great expectations and were not disappointed. Lorna is a most welcoming and relaxed hostess and the surrounding countryside was as beautiful and wonderful as ever.

As we were visiting in June we were able to take advantage of the pool which is super and we practically lived outside in the very pretty garden. We also visited some of the small towns and villages in the area and had meals in the local restaurants; delicious.

The gite is very much a home from home and has everything necessary for a very comfortable stay. I can't wait to go back.

Perfect get away location

  • 5 of 5
A lovely old cottage beautifully restored by the owner, with attention to detail and well presented and clean interior. It was a cold wet October when we stayed but the cottage was warm and cosy. We especially liked the wood burning stove. The kitchen was well equipped, so we got to try out cooking lots of the great local produce.

The rural location meant that there were lots of walks to take. There is also a big garden and a patio to sit out in.

The owner is extremely helpful and friendly. Having lived in the area for over a decade she is a mine of information.

Would definitely recommend since we loved staying at the property.

A very happy holiday

  • 5 of 5
We have just spent two months in this absolutely wonderful place from mid February to mid April One of the best times of our lives. The area is stunningly beautiful and the gite is set in a lovely gardens, peaceful in the middle of the Gers countryside. There is also a lovely pool.

The gite itself was very pretty, well appointed and with everything necessary for comfortable living. Lorna was a very welcoming and knows the area very well suggesting places to visit and shop.

There are many pretty small towns and villages nearby, supermarkets within a quarter of an hours drive and super local markets. The local restaurants are also excellent.

I would recommend any of my friends or family wanting an enjoyable and tranquil holiday in beautifull and quiet surroundings to stay at Peyrouat. We did and had a marvellous time.

Séjour de tous repos dans le Gers !

  • 5 of 5
... Pour les amoureux des vielles pierres.

Montreal village is in the North of the department of the Gers, close to the market towns of Condom and Eauze (10 and 14 kilometres), the two main centres for wine and Armagnac. It borders on the forests of Les Landes to the west and the Lot et Garonne to the north and east. To the south the massif of the Pyrenees is magnificently visible on clear days in Spring and Winter. The larger regional centres of Agen and Auch are a 40 minute drive, while Toulouse, Bordeaux and Biarritz airports are all 2 hours or under. The Gers itself is a very unspoiled, traditional rural area, with a small population and quiet roads which meander over undulating landscape with beautiful views of the Pyrenees. The people are very friendly and the local farms and vineyards produce what the area is famous for: ducks, geese, foie gras, wines, armagnac and sunflowers!

Other Activities: Boating on river and canal
