Photos and Description of the Gers vacation rental Sleeps 4-5 in 2 bedrooms and mezzanine, with 2 bathrooms

Cottage in Gers, Midi-Pyrenees, France: Peyrouat is an old farm hamlet, now divided into two properties, consisting of several traditional stone buildings. The pretty, spacious, 18th century cottage is the oldest building on the site and has been recently restored to include all modern comforts whilst maintaining many original features such as stonework, beams and fireplace. The grounds are very extensive and include many old trees, open land for playing games and, of course, the 11x 5 m. swimming pool. (shared with owners) There is a charming private garden, a sunbathing terrace and a further covered terrace with barbecue for dining, all south and west facing so extremely sunny right into the evening. The surrounding countryside is very peaceful, planted with sunflowers, vines and wheat. Medieval bastide villages abound: the nearest, Montreal, is 6 kilometres away.

Location: Gers < Midi-Pyrenees < France

Nearest Airport: Toulouse at 70 Miles
Nearest Train: Agen at 45 Kilometres
Montreal village is in the North of the department of the Gers, close to the market towns of Condom and Eauze (10 and 14 kilometres), the two main centres for wine and Armagnac. It borders on the forests of Les Landes to the west and the Lot et Garonne to the north and east. To the south the massif of the Pyrenees is magnificently visible on clear days in Spring and Winter. The larger regional centres of Agen and Auch are a 40 minute drive, while Toulouse, Bordeaux and Biarritz airports are all 2 hours or under. The Gers itself is a very unspoiled, traditional rural area, with a small population and quiet roads which meander over undulating landscape with beautiful views of the Pyrenees. The people are very friendly and the local farms and vineyards produce what the area is famous for: ducks, geese, foie gras, wines, armagnac and sunflowers!

Perfect Harmony

Mike and Carol Grimsby, Lincolnshire
Review Submitted: June 16, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
Mike and Carol, Grimsby. The cottage , like the owner's neighbouring farmhouse, blends perfectly into the surrounding rolling tree-covered hills of Gascony. They bask peacefully in the long summer days , the only sound coming from distant tractors, passing woodpeckers and the occasional bark of a dog. It's only a few miles from Montreal and Condom ...but a million miles from mass tourism.Astonishingly you can sometimes go for several hours without hearing a single British voice. The area's awash with excellent walks, wonderful medieval towns and villages, fetes, markets, fine wine and food. There's a warm welcome from everyone....and especially from the owner who is charming, erudite and totally unobtrusive. She's also a living library of information and tips on places of interest, food, wine and festivals.....and she tells a good story too. At the end of a long , hot and exhausting day of enjoying yourself, there is simply nothing better than walking into the stone-cooled haven of Peyrouat. It'll be our third visit this summer. It already felt like a well-worn-in and very comfortable pair of jeans after the first visit.

This is the second time we have booked this lovely property. The character has been retained in this cottage whilst offering modern comforts. Great space inside with fantastic wood burnig stove for early bookers. Really good outside eating/barbecue areas and good size pool with sunbathing loungers. Car is essential due to rural location. Lovely walks closeby and perfect location to explore typical french villages by car e.g. Fources etc. Owner of cottage is very welcoming, friendly and helpful whilst remaining unobtrusive. We will certainly returning for another visit.

Idyllic

Bill & Sophie Wiltshire
Review Submitted: April 1, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2007
We had about as perfect a holiday as it's possible to imagine here. Blessed by wonderful autumnal weather, we loved exploring the pilgrim paths that run almost past the front door. We found the area delightful and unspoiled, with everything you could wish for - just so long as you're not in search of Disneyland. The house was an excellent balance of unfussy comfort with everything you really need. We would unreservedly recommend it and are looking forward to our our return visit.

Great Holiday Property

Eddie & Pat Croydon, England
Review Submitted: March 26, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
We have stayed at this property for the past three years and will be using the cottage again this year. Each year the property was clean & well maintained, the owner provided good customer service. Each year there have been improvments carried our.The location & description was accurate and we have recommend this property to friends. Good swimming pool which is cleaned every day. There are a number of good restaurants nearby and small villages which are worth visiting. The town of Condom is very interesting and a must for all visitors. The garden has been developed by the owner over the past few years. The owner lives next door and is always on hand for advice and assistance.
