my best place ever
My first visit to Barbados, Christmas 2009 with my daughter and two young children----snowy drive to Man. airport,----flights being cancelled, but after a five hour wait we were off! Would the mini cab as promised be there? Yes, Ralph, as we came to know him, bearing our name aloft had us and our luggage loaded and off we went into the wonderfully warm and balmy night. So far so good, but what to expect? We'd booked on line and from the initial contact Simon and Sarah Ellis were friendly and informative, answering all our phone queries promptly, sending us most useful info. sheets, so we were optimistic, but then you never know! NO WORRIES! On arrival Simon and Sarah gave us a very warm welcome---it seemed like the middle of the night, and indeed it was, my very first impression was the elegant lighted Christmas tree in our living space-----every where shining with cleanliness, and so well equipped----enough basics and goodies to see us through to our first super-shop, and never have beds been so comfortable! We awoke to sunshine, a hushed calm over the amazing tropical garden, pool smiling at us, and the green monkeys making their leisurely way through the garden on their way to their day time destination. That morning Ingrid arrived with our hire car, Very efficient, and with a smiling friendliness---arranged my daughter's driving permit, and fixed the child car seats, loaned to us from the Ellis family,. Off to Holetown and the supermarket, relaxing coffee, and everywhere friendly faces and the warmth. . Mullins Bay beach just five or ten minutes walk away from our apartment,, lovely sand for the children and the azure blue sea----great fun, banana boats, etc, and me very happy to relax on a beach lounger with the staff from the beach restaurant ready to bring your drinks ----my favourite being rum punch! , After a few hours of sun and sea we took the children home for lunch, and a little siesta. Anthea, one of the staff really went out of her way to make us comfortable, as did Andrew, who kept the outside areas clean and ttidy.Places of interest within easy reach, St. Nicholas Abbey, Harrison's Cave and Sunbury Plantation house being my favourites so far. Kind and reliable babysitters, so we ate out very often, Mangoes beng my favourite and my daughter loves Tides. So much to say about this lovely place, in fact we were back there at Easter, and guess where we'll be for this Christmas? Cannot keep away from it, trust me, you'll love it!
