About Michael Smith

My family and I live in Palo Alto, California about a block from Stanford University. My wife, of 18 years, and I have 3 children and we love the Tahoe City area. I am a Bay area native having been born in San Francisco and raised in Montara, California, near Half Moon Bay. We have been enjoying the Lake Tahoe region for over 30 years. Our goal is to raise our children with the same excitement and appreciation that we had for Lake Tahoe.

Michael Smith purchased this house in 2004

Why Michael Smith chose Tahoe City

We simply love Tahoe, the people, the year-round activities and how it makes us feel when we are there. Having grown up going to my Father's place in Tavern Shores in Tahoe City, we could not even think of choosing a better place to share our joy of Tahoe with our children. When he sold his place in the summer of 2004, it left a void in our summer and winter trips to Tahoe. When we came across our home on Pioneer Way, with its close proximity to town, the lake, the golf course, the skiing, we felt we had found our ideal home away from home.

What makes this house unique

Literally, you are a block from town and the lake. Guests who stay at our home report simply parking their car the day they arrive and never needing to use it again. The interior is furnished comfortably and with some of finest linens. All of the furniture is newer and we have included every possible needed kitchen item you could imagine. The wood-stove is ideal in both Winter in Summer to help heat up the house. We include all of the firewood for your use. The hot tub on the back porch has found us in it for hours during the winter and Summer months. The views from it are of the city, the lake and the mountains around the cabin. Finally, the back yard is enclosed, landscaped and grassed. Perfect for sun-bathing, sprinklers for the kids, or a mean badminton game. Enjoy!

Great location

  • 5 of 5
Better than a hotel. This lovely home just two blocks off the main road has everything we could desire in a weekend retreat for two. It's comfortable and stocked with everything needed for kitchen and bath. Oh, and spotless! Cute backyard, deck and hot tub (also very clean). We had fun playing the bumper pool. A very easy walk to restaurants, bars, shops, marina, beach and walking trail, yet in a very quiet neighborhood. We will definitely return, next time with family as there is plenty of room. Mike and Lyn were a pleasure to work with every step of the way, very professional and with attention to every detail.

Charming cabin right in town

  • 5 of 5
We rented this cabin for a fall weekend adventure for my daughter and her friends. The location right in Tahoe City was ideal for us so the girls could bike down to get ice cream and use the bike path along the lake. The cabin itself was charming and cozy. The kitchen was very up-to-date and had a good selection of cookware and utensils. There were also staples like olive oil, spices, and flour in the cabinet. The girls loved the hot tub, too. Unlike many cabins, there was a small, grassy lawn in the back yard where you could kick a soccer ball or play lawn bowling. Thanks, Mike and Lyn, for a great weekend retreat!

Lovely Vacation

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed here during the end of the summer season. It was a lovely peaceful time. The home was perfect for 3 couples. My mom and I cooked everyday. The kitchen was great! We used the hot tub frequently, it was very nice and clean. The home is centrally located so we walked down to the lake/town everyday! Loved the small town/slow pace feel of Tahoe City. It was a great home and would absolutely recommend anyone to stay! Thanks for everything.

Ultra-Convenient and Totally Carefree!

  • 5 of 5
We (husband and wife, two pets) stayed at Mike and Lyn's cabin for two wonderful weeks. The location is just about ideal - a 3-5 minute walk to many Tahoe City restaurants and shopping, yet tucked away in a quiet little neighborhood where we never heard the slightest bit of noise, nor barely even saw a car drive by. We were there in the shoulder season and it was easy to drive everywhere around Lake Tahoe and beyond to hike and see all the sites.

The cabin was quite cozy, with wood paneling everywhere, comfortable places to sit by the big-screen and the fireplace, and a pretty backyard with two levels of deck for our pets to romp around in.

Best of all, however, was that the entire house was extremely well-maintained, spotless, and outfitted with just about everything we wanted or needed, from appliances, to entertainment systems/WiFi and games, to a fully-equipped new kitchen, grill with plenty of charcoal, foil wrap, spices, you name it. We brought clothes and a PC, bought perishable food at the nearby supermarket, and that was about all we needed for our entire stay, including eating well "at home" several times.

Mike and Lyn responded right away to all of our queries and were totally accommodating and easy to work with.

This was our third VRBO rental and we were completely satisfied. Highly recommended.
